“THE MASTER’S MANIFESTO”Part 14

Hello, listening friends.  I am glad you joined us again.
Last time, we ran out of time; so I want to tell you the rest of this story today.
I hope you are prepared with your Bibles, and ready to listen.
“Blessed are you, when men revile you and speak evil against you falsely for My sake.”
The word, “revile,” means “seriously insulting,”
or, “throw abusive words,” or, “viciously mock” you.
Sometimes, our love for Christ, and our commitment to the truth of His Word, causes people to call us names.
Sometimes, our love for the Lord Jesus causes some people to despise us.
Sometimes, our love for Jesus causes some people to hate us.
Sometimes, because of our faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ, people falsely accuse us of not being compassionate.
Sometimes, because of our faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ, some people may smile to our faces; but, then, they attack us behind our backs.
Listen to what Jesus’ critics said of  Him in Matthew 11:19.
They said that He was a glutton and a drunkard,
a friend of tax collectors and sinners.
Listen carefully.
If they said this about the sinless, holy Son of God,
who are we to expect less?
To be sure, slander behind our backs is harder to take,
because it is harder to defend.
Slander behind our backs has an opportunity to spread
and be believed before we have a chance to correct it.
While slander is regrettable,
don’t spend any time worrying about it.
We should count ourselves blessed, when we become subject to slander falsely.
Jesus is saying that, when you are being slandered, count on Him.
When you are being falsely accused, look up to Him.
When you are being maligned falsely, don’t retaliate.  Leave it with Him.
When you are being falsely accused, don’t let it consume your energy.  Spend time praying for your accusers.
The Apostle Peter said, in 1 Peter 3:14,
he was repeating the Master’s teaching to his readers by telling them not to try to defend themselves.
We should consider ourselves privileged when we suffer for righteousness.
When we suffer because we are different,
when we suffer because we are distinguished from the world,
Peter tells us that, when we are being hated and maligned by the world,
remember that the real animosity is not against us, but against the Lord Jesus.
Satan’s great enemy is Christ,
and he opposes Him everywhere, including in the life of His followers.
When we are attacked for the sake of Christ,
the real target is righteousness, which we exemplify.
Far from fretting and being angered, Jesus tells us that what should happen is that we should rejoice and be glad.
There’s someone who put it this way:
he said, “We do not retaliate, like the unbelievers.
We don’t sulk, like a child.
We do not lick our wounds in self pity, like a dog.
We do not just grin and bear it, like a stoic;
nor do we pretend that we enjoy it, like the masochists;
but we really leap for joy.
Why?
because we shall inherit all things in Heaven.
Some people think that being different is being sad or somber.
No, far from it!
Jesus is saying that we ought to be jumping up and down for joy
We don’t go around with our faces sad.
In fact, the Word said, “Be exceedingly glad…”
and this is not just a recommendation.  This is an order.
The world can take away a lot of things from us, Christians.
Some may even falsely take us to court
and we may lose everything that we have.
Some may take you to court and cheat the system and you may lose whatever precious possessions you may have;
but there is one thing that the world can never take away from you.
It is your joy,
and Jesus gives us two reasons for rejoicing and being glad.
First,
第一,
He said, because of your reward in Heaven.
“Our present life is no more than a vapor,” said James, “that it appears for a little while and, then, disappears...”
but Heaven is forever.
If we only can understand this,
then, we could comprehend what Jesus meant, when He said to store up your savings accounts in Heaven.
The reason for Him telling us to store it up in Heaven is because it will be there for us forever --
not to accumulate it here on the earth, so that you can leave it behind for your descendants to squander it.
God’s dividends are not ordinary dividends.  They are not only eternal dividends, but Jesus said they are great.
Some of you probably are saying,
“I don’t serve the Lord for a reward.”
Of course, we do!
The Bible said that we do.
Listen to Hebrews 12:2
It speaks of Christ,
and he said, because of the joy set before Him, He endured the cross, despising the shame.
It is neither selfish nor unspiritual to look forward to the rewards in Heaven.
The Apostle Paul looked forward to his crown in Heaven,
because he knew that he fought the good fight;
因为他知道,他打了美好的仗;
then, there is a second reason for rejoicing.
When we suffer for righteousness, we are in good company.
When you suffer for Jesus’ sake, you are experiencing what all the great men and women of God experience.
The little that we suffer for Jesus’ sake should remind us of what the early believers have suffered for their faith.
How many of them were put in boiling oil?
How many of them were painted with tar and, then, used as human torches?
How many of them were covered with sheepskin and thrown in to wild animals?
How many of them were put through all of that for the sake of Christ?
They could have escaped all of that.
All they needed to do was just compromise a little.
All they needed to say was, “Caesar is Lord,” and everything would be fine.
but earthly comfort was not their primary motive for living.
but Jesus was.
In many ways, the Beatitudes paint a comprehensive portrait of a true Christian.
It does not paint a picture of a denomination that you belong to,
but a picture of a true believer in Jesus Christ.
Let me see if I can paint it for you.
First, you must declare spiritual poverty and bankruptcy;
首先,你必须宣告你属灵的贫穷和破产;
then, you mourn over your sin.
Thirdly, you become meek by keeping your power under control.
Fourthly,
第四,
far from being smug and self-satisfied, you hunger and you thirst for God’s righteousness.
Fifth,
第五,
far from running away from the world, you are in the midst of it,
showing mercy upon those who are battered by sin.
Sixthly,
第六,
you are transparent and living an integrated life.
Seventh,
第七,
you seek to make peace through God’s truth;
and, finally, you will not only have a thankless job --
indeed, you may be oppressed, slandered and insulted and persecuted
on account of the righteousness which you represent.
Such is the blessed man.
The Lord has set before us a blessing and a curse.
The choice is yours.
I want to urge you to choose the blessing,
and I pray for you that God will bless you richly.
Until we meet again,
walk with God.
