三个戏剧班所有的孩子,都给我们留下了优秀和认真的印象。几乎所有的学生都展现出了为取得良好成果而必备的理解力、热情和投入的精神。
周六 9月4日
在这个班上,老学员(Maggie, Ellen, Amy,
Jerry)与新学员之间的差别还是值得我们注意的。老学员们感觉更舒适、自信、专注,他们让新来的孩子们有了榜样,新来的孩子们对于他们要学习的课程都感到很激动,但还得学习如何运用所学的知识。孩子们学习了基本的与戏剧有关的词汇,
舞台的不同部位。他们学到了戏剧最早起源于古希腊。孩子们将许多时间用于基础练习,
以培养孩子们把注意力集中在演对手戏的演员身上。William是班上年龄最大的孩子,
他以勇于尝试任何事情的勇气显示出了他的领导才能。所有的新学生,除了一位,由于害羞,都鼓起勇气站在全班面前,
做具有挑战性的声乐训练。

上午班
这是“A级”团队。除了一个孩子,别的孩子以前都和老师一起工作过, 他们中的大多数在三个不同的地方两出戏中表演过。
Annie是新来的孩子,

We are very impressed with the quality and seriousness of the
children in all three of our new drama classes. Almost all of the
students exhibit an intelligence, enthusiasm, and commitment that
will bear great fruit in the future.
Saturday, September 4
The difference between the returning students (Maggie, Ellen, Amy,
Jerry), and the new students, is noteworthy. The returning students
are comfortable, confident, and focused. They're an example to the
new students, who are excited by what they are learning, but have
yet to learn how to apply it. The students were given the basic
vocabulary of the theater and a description of the different areas
of the stage. They learned of the origins of the theater in ancient
Greece. Much time was devoted to a foundation exercise that trains
the students to focus on the other actor. William, who is the
oldest, showed leadership by his willingness to try anything. All
new students, except one out of shyness, were courageous to stand
up in front of the class by themselves and do a challenging vocal
exercise.
Sunday, September 5
Morning Class
This is the "A" Team. All of the students, except one, have worked
with the teacher before, most of them in two previous productions
at three different venues. Annie, the new student, "jumped in with
both feet," and will clearly catch up with the others in the weeks
to come. The class received an introduction to William Shakespeare
and the special demands of speaking in verse. Basic exercises were
reviewed. Chairman Hu and Mary read aloud from the climactic scene
of "Pericles" - in Chinese.
下午班
这个班由五个新学员组成, 这种小规模的班级暨形成了独特的挑战,
也展示了很高的希望。与星期六上午的课一样,孩子们学习了与戏剧有关的基本词汇, 如何在舞台上走步,

Afternoon Class
Consisting of five new students, the size of this class presents
unique challenges but also great promise. As with the Saturday
morning class, the students received a basic vocabulary of the
theater, an introduction to moving around the stage, and heard the
story of Thespis, "the First Actor." All participated with
enthusiasm in the repetition exercise, the foundation of learning
how to react and interact with one's partner on stage. We also had
fun playing the "mirror game," in which one student concentrates on
the other and attempts to simultaneously mimic his/or her actions.
Children with strong English skills have a natural advantage, but
at the same time, their greater familiarity with English sometimes
leads them to assume that they know more than they really do. This
will be a particularly intensive class, by virtue of its size, and
we expect great results.
Note: all of the students have been requested to return next week
with an "activity," a project that is difficult to do, which will
be incorporated into the repetition exercise.
