                                  Vacuum (真空)

When a pressure is less than atmospheric pressure it is called a vacuum. A vacuum is a lack of air or fluid. Years ago it was proven that air could be almost completely withdrawn from a container, creating a vacuum. It is impossible to pump absolutely all the air out of a container and thus make a perfect vacuum (0Pa), but enough air can be pumped out to be effective.

  某种压力低于大气压力的状况被称作真空。真空中缺乏气体、液体。多年前人们证明空气几乎可以完全从容器中抽出,产生真空。完全抽出容器内的空气从而创造完美的真空(气压是0帕)是一件不可能的事,但是,抽出足够的空气创造真空是有效的。

At first, vacuum pumps were found only in laboratories. Then it was found that the principle of the vacuum could be used elsewhere. Electric light bulbs and X-ray tubes are made with a vacuum which makes them more efficient. A vacuum is also used on the condensers of our steam turbines, in our distillation processes, and in our refrigeration processes.

起初,人们只是在实验室里发现了真空泵,后来人们发现真空这一原则可用于其他地方。电灯泡和x-光管是利用真空原理制造出的,而且真空使其效率提高。真空用于汽轮机的冷凝器,蒸馏技术和制冷处理。
