In these confusing times, it is comforting to know that some brands
will always stay true to their heritage. Hervé Léger, the high-end
label owned by the BCBG Max Azria Herve Leger Group, is known for its va-va-voom
red-carpet “bandage” dresses that encircle, shape and support the
body — much like, ahem,Yves
Saint Laurent shoes, a bandage. This afternoon, the brand
unveiled its vision for Fall 2010: more bandages. If it’s not
broken, why fix it? Celebrities like Rihanna,Christian Louboutin, Miley Cyrus and
Diane Kruger have all worn the fitted-but-flattering styles of
Hervé Léger, and the show’s front row has long been a haven for
young starlets. Today,Herve
Leger, Heard on the Runway spotted “Gossip Girl” Jessica Szohr;
Sophia Bush of “One Tree Hill”; and Alison Brie of “Community” and
“Mad Men” fame, all wearing Hervé Léger dresses at the show. The
show notes explained the mysterious power of the bandage, calling
it “second-skin armor” that will give women “the confidence to
stand tall in the face of the future.” Next winter, the Hervé Léger
gal will be wearing laced bandage dresses in pastel hues, mesh
bodysuits and, like a modern-day superhero, bandage pants with
rubber prints. Another plus: they won’t even need to wear Spanx.
Janelle Heiser, a 37-year-old Ohio native who has bought American
Express skybox tickets to Hervé Léger runway shows for the past few
seasons, may know the true secret to the brand’s popularity: the
looks can be flattering on both size-0 models and size-6 women
alike. “I didn’t start buying Hervé Léger until I started going to
the Herve Leger shows,” said Ms. Heiser, who has since purchased
several of the brand’s dresses. By watching the show, “you can tell
on a scary-skinny girl that if it’s making them look
crazy-scary-skinny, then on a normal size it will look good.”
