A shepherd found a wolf’s baby on a very cold day when he returned home from the grassland. He picked it up and brought it to his house. He took care of it and brought it up (1). After some time he began to teach it to steal lambs from the neighboring flocks. The wolf proved to be an apt pupil and always succeeded in stealing.

One day the wolf said to the shepherd, “Since you have taught me to steal, you must keep a sharp out-look, or you will lose some of your own flock (2).”

Harm set, harm get.

Notes:

1.       He picked it up….

He…brought it up.

比如:to turn off the light (把灯关掉)= to turn it off(把它关掉) / to bring up the child(抚养孩子) = to bring him up(把他抚养成人) / to pick up the apple (把苹果捡起来)= to pick it up(捡起它)。

2.       … you will lose some of your own flock.

Some of the students from this school have volunteered for quite a long time.(这个学校的一些学生已经当志愿者已经很有一些时间了。)/ Some of the fruit has ripened.(一些水果成熟了。)
