A lion was growing old and weak and always got sick. He had to stay in his cave. All the beasts came to visit their king, except the fox.

The wolf therefore thought that he now had a rare opportunity to accuse the fox to the lion. He told the lion that the fox never paid any respect to the lion who had the rule over them all and that the fox did not come to visit the lion.

At that very moment the fox came in, and heard these last words of the wolf.

The lion roared out in a rage against the fox. The fox found an opportunity to defend himself, saying to the lion:

“And of all those who have come to you have benefited you so much as I, who have traveled from place to place in every direction (1), and have sought and learned from the physicians the means of healing you?”

The lion commanded him immediately to tell him the cure, when he relied: “You must  skin a wolf alive, and wrap his skin yet warm around you.”

The wolf was at once taken and skinned alive. Just before that the fox said to the wolf with a smile: “You should have moved your master not to ill, but to good will.”

Notes:

1.       …who have traveled from place to place in every direction…

比如:from morning till night (从早到晚)/ from door to door (挨家逐户)/ from coast to coast(从东海岸到西海岸----一般指“全美国“) /  arm in arm (手腕挽)/ neck to neck(并驾齐驱) /  man to man (人盯人)。

Questions:

1.       Which of the following statements is true according to the story?

A.      The fox traveled a lot in order to cure the lion’s illness.

B.      The fox never showed any respect to the lion.

C.      The fox calmed down and found a way to defend himself.

D.     The fox purposefully wanted to cheat the lion.

Key to the question:  1. C
