 「superstore」意指「大卖场」，意思相当于「megastore」和「supercenter」，台湾常见的有大润发、「Carrefour」（家乐福）、「Geant」（爱买）和世界知名的「Wal-Mart」（沃玛）等，其它大型购物商场的说法有：「shopping mall」（大型购物中心）、「wholesaler」（大型批发店，例如「Costco」（好市多）、「hypermarket」（【英】大型超市）、「cash & carry」（自助批发店，顾客挑完商品以现金付账，并自行运送回家）﹔顺带补充各种商店的说法：「grocery store / shop」（杂货店）、「retail store」（零售店）、「outlet」（畅货中心）、「category killer」（精品独卖店）、「specialty store」（专卖店）等。

百货公司和各大卖场举行的特卖活动种类很多，像是对话中的「anniversary sale」就是「周年庆」的意思，也可以说成「annual sale」，而「年终庆，年底清仓大甩卖」则可以用「year-end clearance」或「year-end closeout」来表达，「year-end」意指「年终，年底」，「clearance」和「closeout」都是「出清存货，清仓大甩卖」的意思。另外，常见的特卖活动还有：「end-of-season sale」（换季特卖）、「back-to-school sale」（开学特卖）、「Christmas sale」（圣诞特卖会）、「Thanksgiving sale」（感恩节特卖会）等。而特卖会中常见到的促销标语或手法有：「lowest-priced products」（最低价商品）、「Carrefour exclusive」（家乐福独家贩卖）、「limited time, limited quantity」（限时限量）、「limited first-release」（首批限量）、「promotional give-away」（促销赠品）等。

「apply for」是「申请，办理」的意思，而在对话中出现的「two forms of ID」是指「两种不同证件」，而办理过程中则免不了要「fill out the form」（填写表格），需要注意的是，「form」在对话中有两种意思，分指「种类」和「表格」，而表格的完整说法为「application form」，可以单以「application」或「form」表示，另外在申请过程中常出现的用语还有：「two copies of the same format」（一式两份）。
