Note – The following courses are by invitation only for pre-selected individuals

 

Black Belt Training:

 

Participants: Black Belts and Master Black Belts

 

Length: A full three week workshop, offered over a period of two months – Monday to Friday 8AM to 6PM.

 

Week one – Leading Teams:

This course is an interactive week long workshop looking at leadership theories, Social Styles, Learning Cycle and team feedback to help teams improve their meeting efficiency and effectiveness. It also includes a simulation that will allow them to personally experience the power of the DMAIC methodology as well as topics such as Six Sigma Council, Top down and bottom up project selection, how to transfer projects, how to nominate projects as Best Practices, the eTool and Financials. These topics will help set the expectations for their new roles and prepare them well for the following two weeks of training dedicated to project Management and DMAIC methodology. 

 

Week Two and Three -  DMAIC 1 and 2 Training:

This course is the deep dive into the Six Sigma Problem – solving methodology (DMAIC) focusing on the five phases of DMAIC – Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. This training which offers a good balance of lecture and hands on activities will arm the participants with tools and techniques that will enable them to successfully implement top revenue-enhancement, cost reduction and Process Improvement (GSI, ASI and MPSE) DMAIC projects at their properties. 

 

Green Belt Training:

 

Participants: Green Belts candidates are experienced hospitality professionals, ideally at the Executive Committee or Department Head level, with proven leadership skills and or potential.

 

Length: A one week workshop preceded by three interactive Pre-work Coaching sessions (conference calls)  – Monday to Friday – 8AM to 6PM.

 

Course Summary: This course will enable Green Belts to learn about critical leadership skills (time Management, Building and Managing a team, Social Styles, Learning Cycles) needed to successfully champion Six Sigma at the property / complex. It will also provide them with the necessary Six Sigma toolkit to successfully Import Best Practices and Transfer projects, as well as coach others in executing successful transfers.

 

Note:

 

Green Belts will remain in their existing operational and / or departmental reporting line.  While acting in the Six Sigma role, a Green Belt will report directly to his / her GM, with a dotted reporting line to the Master Black Belt who is responsible for his / her property / complex (for technical oversight and coaching).

 

 

Process Change and Innovation Transfer Workshop (NAD):

 

Participants: General Managers, Executive Committee Members, Select Department Heads and Key Managers, Black Belts and Green Belts

 

Length: A full three days workshop – 8AM to 6PM.

 

Course Summary:

 

This highly interactive workshop was very successfully piloted for the first time and in September 2003. It was custom designed to answer a strong demand for additional Innovation Transfer training for Executive Committee members, Department Heads and Key Managers, who support Black Belt and Green Belt project teams, in a Sponsor or Team member capacity.  The course starts with a very interactive Simulation, which allows team members to experience the power of the DMAIC methodology first hand, and is followed by two days of hands on eTool and Transfer technique content using the iDMAIC methodology and tools. A selected case project is imported and refined in a live environment, which ensures all participants feel comfortable with transferring projects as a team using their leadership skills and appropriate tools (Six Sigma tools, Minitab, eTool, Project Management, Learning Cycles).

 

 

Six Sigma Council Workshop:

 

Participants: General Managers, Executive Committee Members, Select Department Heads and Key Managers, Black Belts and Green Belts

 

Length: A full three-day workshop – from 8AM to 6PM

 

Course summary: This course is designed to enable Hotel Executive members and senior leaders to exercise leadership and make value-driven decisions by identifying, prioritizing and sizing top revenue enhancement, cost reduction and process improvement (ASI, GSI, MPSI) projects in a team environment. During the course they will experience first hand their future responsibilities on their Property Six Sigma Council as Sponsors and or Team members of these projects, by being given the opportunity to refine and present their project in “draft mode” at the end of the three days. Upon completion of the workshop, and based on trainers’ and peers’ feedback, the projects will be further refined and completed back at the property/Complex with the assistance of a fully formed and operational Black Belt and or Green Belt team, using the DMAIC and iDMAIC methodologies.

 

Please note that Six Sigma Council Workshop and Pre-work leading to the workshop has been customized according to specific Divisional needs and Strategies. Content and duration of pre-work and workshop vary accordingly.

 

 

All Associate Training  - Discovery Map activity:

 

Participants: All Associates

Highly recommended for all new property launches and mandatory introduction to Six Sigma in new hire orientation.

 

Length: 1 ½ hour

 

Course Summary: This overview of Starwood’s approach to Six Sigma is designed for all Associates throughout Starwood. The training consists of a Discovery Map activity called: SIXSIGMA: Innovation and improvement” and is facilitated in an interactive team format on property by either the General Manager, Black Belt, Green Belt or Human Resources Director.
