What is Toastmasters? 什么是Toastmasters？ 

No, we don't make toasters! 不，我们不生产面包机！

Toast本意是烤面包，也有祝酒、干杯的意思。Toastmaster的意思是祝词人、主持人的意思。

自1924年在加利福利亚圣塔安娜的基督教青年会（Young Men's Christian Association, 基督教青年会）起步，Toastmasters International已经成为一个全球性的领导者，专注于帮助人们更出色、坦然地面对观众发表演讲。这个非盈利组织现在已经拥有来自92个国家的11,500个俱乐部，成员接近226,000人，提供已被证明是非常成功又有趣的方法来实践和磨练沟通与领导能力。

大多数Toastmasters的会议由大约20个人参与，每周一次，每次1-2小时。参会者通过担任角色来实践和学习技能，包括发表事先准备的演讲或即席演讲以及担任计时者、评论官或语法官等。

这里没有老师；相反，每次演讲和会议都有会员以积极防方式给与评价，专注于哪些地方做得好和哪些地方能够得到改进。

上海Amazing Friday俱乐部

是Toastmasters International的下属组织。作为成员俱乐部我们帮助大家学习演讲、倾听和思考的艺术-这些技能将提升自我实现，加强领导能力，促进互相理解，并为创建和谐的人类社会作出贡献。

加入 Amazing Fridays 很简单：

1.    告知负责会员事务的VP（Helen Zhang）你想参加俱乐部，她会提供申请表和安排处理会费；

2.    你将用1分钟的时间介绍你自己并说明为什么要加入我们，然后有一个三分钟的问答；

3.    会员们投票决定接纳你！就这么简单。。。你今天就可以开始！

Toastmasters International

From a humble beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters International has grown to become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. The nonprofit organization now has nearly 226,000 members in 11,500 clubs in 92 countries, offering a proven – and enjoyable! – way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills.

Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian.

There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved.

Shanghai Amazing Friday Toastmasters Club

Shanghai Amazing Friday Toastmasters Club is affiliated with Toastmasters International. Through its member clubs, Toastmasters International helps men and women learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking—vital skills that promote self-actualization, enhance leadership potential, foster human understanding, and contribute to the betterment of mankind.

Joining Amazing Fridays is easy...

1.    Tell the Membership Vice-President (Helen) that you want to join the club. She will help you fill out the application form and receive fees,

2.    You will present a one-minute personal introduction and tell us why you want to join us, followed by a three-minutes Q&A during a club meeting,

3.    Members vote to accept you! That’s it… and you can start today.
