According to a piece of news on Takungpao.com, young writer Zou Xiang’s new book titled Listening to the Wind, which is supposed to be his sixth work and his 2nd prose work, was published in May 2017 by TJ Press. The book wins high praise of Shi Yongxin, Vice-President of China Buddhism Association, President of Henan Buddhism Association and Abbot in Shaolin Temple.

The book titled Listening to the Wind comprises five chapters, they are All Those Years Ago,  Invaluable Family Affection, Listening to the Wind, The Light of Wisdom, Traveling Bodhi, including 80 pieces of work written by the writer in recent two years. It is worth mentioning that Traveling Bodhi has selected 10 pieces of works that are related with temple and cities, aimed at initiating readers’ curiosity and embark on “A Trip Without Plan”.

When asked why the book is titled Listening to the Wind, Zou Xiang reveals the answer in his preface, “Regarding how to name the prose work, several names once occurred to me, such as Flowers Falling in Dream, Native Land & Accent, Looking into the Distant Hometown, etc. However, all of them failed to express my affection and attachment to my hometown and fellow countrymen. Right at the moment when I was pondering, a breeze blew in and aeolian bells hanging on the curtain made a sound of “Ring & Ring” that made me ease of mind. Listening to the Wind signifies a positive attitude towards life, wherever you are, the positive attitude will make you feel contented as any time. In this sense, I named the prose work Listening to the Wind, with the hope that readers can keep kindness in mind and smile at life.

Abbot Shi Yongxin paid high tribute to the work in the Introduction, “The work not only represents writer’s boundless love for his hometown but also reflects his cherishing for life, relatives and friends, as well as his longing for the future. All of these sentiments are rooted in his meditative mind.”
