**定语从句
1、 前置要把定语从句翻译到所修饰的先行词之前。例：
①03（61）Furthermore, humans have the ability to modify the environment in which they live, thus subjecting all other life forms to their own peculiar ideas and fancies.
i、个人生词：furthermore 此外、而且、进一步说
            thus 因而、从而、这样、如此
            subject sth to sth 使…服从于…
            fancy 幻想、想象
ii、方法：前置“they live”到“environment”前面，
iii、其他tips:
a、“…have the ability to …”最好不翻译成“有…的能力”而翻译成“有能力…”。
b、代词所指：在翻译中首先指代明确，常常往前看，遵循就近原则和一致原则来确定，万不得已仍用代词翻译或者可以用“这种情况”“这种说法”“这种观点”来翻译。
iv、参考译文：而且，人类有能力改造他们居住的环境，从而让其他所有的生命形
态服从于人类自己独特的想法和幻想。

评论：如果定语从句结构简单，信息负载量不大，翻译的时候前置。
2、 后置。例：
①97（71）Actually, it isn’t, because it assumes that there is an agreed account of human rights, which is something the world does not have.
i、个人生词：assume 假定，假设，认为
            account 认识，看法（这里有一部分意译的成分）
ii、方法：由于定语从句较复杂，因此后置，后置时根据主句的意思加上“这种共同的认识”。
iii、其他tips:
a、”it isn’t”这里并不知道”it”指代什么，要往前看。翻译成“这个问题”，即”Does animals have right?”
B、”something”可以不翻译。
iv、参考译文：事实上，这个问题并不存在（事实并非如此）。因为这个问题是假设[人们]对人权有共同认识，而这个假设并不存在。

a、 人名的翻译：遵照习惯，按照音译。如这句翻译成皮尔森。
b、 We翻译成人们较好。
iv、参考译文：皮尔森汇集了世界各地的数百个研究人员的研究成果，编制了一个独特的新技术千年历。这个千年历给出了人们所期待的数百个重大突破和发现的最迟日期。
③01（71）There will be television chat shows hosted by robots, and cars with pollution monitors that will disable them when they offend.
i、个人生词：show 节目
    host 主持
    monitor 监控器
    disable 使不能，这里根据意思翻译成“使不能行驶”
    offend 原意是冒犯，犯罪，这里根据句意猜测为“排污超标”
ii、方法：后置定语从句
iii、其他tips:
a、 时态的翻译（增词法）：甲、增加“过去”“一直”、“已经”、“了”来表示和过去相关的时态。
                     乙、增加“正”、“正在”表示进行时态。
      丙、“将”、“将要”、“就要”表示将来时态。
b、开头加上“届时”的翻译。（there be 的翻译）
iv、参考译文：届时，将出现机器人主持的电视节目和带有污染监视器的汽车，一旦汽车污染超标，监视器将不允许汽车行驶。
④94（72）”In short”, a leader of the new school contends, “the scientific revolution, as we call it, was largely the improvement and invention and use of a series of instruments that expanded the reach of science in innumerable directions.”

ii、方法：后置定语从句，但要注意that 后面的定语从句修饰前面整个表语因此定语从句得主语应翻译成“这些改进、发明和使用”。

a、 注意到”in short” 含引号，因此可断定其和后面的句子都是”a leader of the new school”的”contend”内容。方法是将”a leader of the new school contends”前移至开头。
b、 a series of instruments修饰的是前面的三个名词（即the improvement、invention、use of a series of instruments）。
c、 as we call it 翻译成“所谓的”
d、 contend 坚持说 content 内容，满意 comment 评论 argue 辩论说、争论说 assert/allege 断言 claim 宣称 maintain 坚持认为、主张
iv、参考译文：新学派的一位领袖人物坚持说：“简而言之，我们所谓的科学革命主要是指一系列工具的改进、发明和使用，这些改进、发明和使用从数不清的方向扩展了科学的领域。

评论：如果定语从句结构复杂，信息负载量大，翻译的时候后置，这时常常需要重复先行词，或者用代词来重复。
考研翻译首要考虑后置。
