1.towel: n. [C] a piece of cloth or paper used for wiping or drying 毛巾;纸巾    ( tower )

She wiped her tears with a towel. 她用毛巾擦眼泪。

2.struggle: vi. make great efforts, especially when trying to deal with a difficult problem or situation奋斗;作出极大努力

He struggled to be polite with the fussy customer. 他努力使自己礼貌地对待那位挑剔的顾客。

He struggled to control his temper. 他努力控制自己的脾气。

3.interfere: vi.1) (in, between) deliberately get involved in a situation that doesn't concern you 介入;干预;干涉

I was playing with Jane, but Anne interfered and spoiled the game.

我正和珍妮玩,可安妮插进来,把游戏打乱了。

It's unwise to interfere in her private affairs.干涉她的私事是不明智的。

2) (with) get in the way; prevent from working or happening 妨碍;阻止

The sounds of the radio upstairs interferes with my work. 楼上收音机的声音妨碍了我工作。

4.interval: n. [C] a period of time between events, activities, etc. (时间上的)间隔

Students take tests at regular intervals. 学生定期参加测试。

Trains leave at short intervals. 火车发出的间隔时间很短。

5.boundary: n. 1) [C] an official line that marks the edge between two areas of land 分界线;边界

The inland boundary is defined. 内陆分界线已划定。

A river forms a boundary between the two countries. 河流成了两国的分界线。

2) [C] a line that marks a limit 界限;范围

The old boundaries between specialties are collapsing. 各专业间的旧界限正被冲破。

The boundaries of human knowledge are constantly being extended. 人类知识的范围在不断地扩展。

restrain: vt. control or prevent from doing something 克制;抑制

The police tried to restrain people from rushing on to the pitch. 警察试图阻止人们涌入球场。

He had difficulty restraining his curiosity. 他难以抑制自己的好奇心。

6.temper: n. [C] a state of mind心境;脾气;性情

He has got a quick temper. 他脾气急躁。

If he can’t control his temper, he should give up teaching. 他要是控制不住脾气,他就不应该再教书。

7.bury: vt. hide or cover over something, especially with earth 掩盖;埋藏

She buried her face in her hands. 她双手掩面。

He was buried with his wife. 他和妻子埋在了一起。

8.give sb. a look: look at someone with an expression that shows what you are feeling or thinking (以某种表情或眼神)看某人

Don't give me such severe looks. What have I done? 不要用这么严厉的眼光看着我,我做什么了?

The man gave the girl a hard look. 这个男人恶狠狠地瞪了女孩一眼。

9.skate on thin ice: do something that may get you into trouble做冒险的事; 如履薄冰地去冒险

He commented on the move with “skating on thin ice”. 他用“ 冒险” 一词来评论这一行动。

You are skating on thin ice in doing such a thing. 你这么做是在冒险。

10.hit on/upon: find by chance or have a good idea about偶然碰上(或想起)

Robert has hit upon an idea that will get us out of our difficulty.

罗伯特想了个好主意,可以使我们摆脱困境。

She hit upon a good title for her new novel. 她灵机一动,为自己的新小说想出了个好名字。

11.pull away: move away or backward; withdraw 脱身;离开;逃出

This is used to pull the animal away from danger. 这个东西是用来让动物脱离危险的。

I tried to kiss her but she pulled away. 我想吻她,但她挣脱开了。
