儿子：What on earth are you doing? 你到底在干什么？

父亲：Watch and learn, my friend. 儿子，好好看着，学着点。

父亲： Maybe. Do you think we should hang on to him? 你觉得我们该收养他吗？

父亲： We can't keep him for ever. 我们不能永远养着他。

Not any more than your mom and I can keep you. 就向你妈妈和我不能一辈子养着你。

He's gonna go back to the world he came from one day. 总有一天他要回到他生长的地方。

 

 

母亲：I'm glad I'm not his mum. I'd be heartbroken to lose him.

幸好我不是他妈妈，不然丢失了他我会心碎的。

 

 

儿子：In Africa, they say that when you give someone a name, they come your responsibility.

在非洲，他们说当你给一个人起了一个名字，那么你就要对他们负责任。

A propper name should capture the most important qualities

and point them towards a certain kind of life.

一个合适的名字能够抓住最重要的品质并指引他们过一种特定的生活。

 

 

儿子： As he became part of our daily life he got to know everything around the farm.

And I think he started to feel that it was his place too.

当他成为我们生活的一部分，他逐渐熟悉了我们的农场。而且我觉得他也开始把这里当做他的家了。

 

 

儿子：Then Mom thought of Duma, the Swahili word for cheetah.

然后，妈妈想到了杜玛这个名字，在斯瓦西里语里是“印度豹”的意思。

We all though it sounded pretty good.So then Duma became our responsibility.

 

 

儿子：From too much love of living 源于活着得太多的爱

From hope and fear set free 源于希望和释放的恐惧

we thank with breaf thanksgiving 我们用简单的感恩节感谢上帝

whatever gods maybe 不管上帝是什么

 

 

母亲：Pause...after each line. 每读完一段之后要停顿，

Read it like you are singing a song. 朗诵时要像唱歌那样，

The sound of the words are the melody. 你朗诵的声音就是旋律。

 

 

父亲：Got any room for me? 有我的地方吗？

Hang on. 听我说。

He is almost grown. 他已经长大了。

He is nearly too old to survive out there. 他已经长大并能够在野外生活了。

Duma got to live the life he was born to. 杜玛要过他自己的生活了。

 

 

儿子： He doesn't want to go! 他不想走。

He doesn't want to be wild. 他不想过野外生活。

父亲： You can't decide that for him, Xen. 你不可以替他做决定，赞。

 

 

父亲：Send him off.   把他送回大自然。

 

 

老师： Nobody leaves this my room without my permission.

没有我的允许任何人不得离开这个房间。

Fire drill. 火警演习。

Exit by row. Orderly , please. 请你们有秩序地排队出去！

 

 

We have to go far. 我们得走得更远一点。

Go home. 回家。
