There are two factors which determine an individual’s intelligence. The first is the sort of brain he is born (1)      . Human brains differ considerably, (2)          being more capable than others. 翻译:

决定人的智力的有有个因素。第一个是与生俱来的大脑的种类。人的大脑是很不相同的,有些人比其他人更有能力。但是,不管他一开始有个多么好的大脑,除非他拥有良好的学习机会,否则这样的个体仍会有较低的智力。所以第二个因素就是这个个体在他所生存的环境里发生了什么事。如果一个个体所处的智力低下的环境里,很有可能他的大脑会发育不好,他将不能达到他应该能达到的智力水平。

个体的智力由环境决定的重要性能够通过相似的双生子情况来证明,彼得和约翰,是双生子,三个月时他们父母双亡,他们被分别寄养。彼得在一个隔离的社区由一对智力低下的父母抚养,没有接受良好教育的机会。而约翰由一对上过大学的家景良好的父母收养教育。这种环境不同持续到他们二十来岁,那时他们接受测试检查他们的智力水平。约翰的I.O.值是125比平均水平高25点,比他的同卵双生弟弟高整整40点。
