How to Increase Your Working Experience in the University

While studying in universities, students are required to make a detailed study of the knowledge in the books. Certainly the academic knowledge is the foundation for future work, but it is not the only thing that students have to acquire. Some working experience is also indispensable for them to adapt themselves to the future occupations. How do they increase the working experience without the sacrifice of studies?[英语作文]

Firstly, I think the students should get mentally and physically prepared for the coming part-time jobs. Secondly, they should widen the scope of choices. Whenever mentioning the part-time jobs, students will inevitably think of tutoring little kids or working in the supermarkets. In fact, there are a lot of other choices, such as working as volunteers for some associations, teaching in some underdeveloped areas, and writing articles for newspapers. Finally, write down promptly what they have learned from work. By doing so, they will be impressed deeply by that experience and make it really valuable for the future work.

In a word, working experience gained while the students are studying in universities will benefit them throughout their life.

                                        Campus Certificates Craze

If you just randomly ask a student on campus what he is busy doing, very possibly, he may answer you he is working for a certificate of some kind. Going further, you will find that this has become a new craze among college students.

The reasons behind the phenomenon can be summarized into just one: the pressure of finding a job after graduation. With the admission expansion of colleges, a lot more graduates have to compete for the limited job posts. How to make oneself more competitive? Maybe more certificates at hand. Hoping that the employers might find one of them attractive, the students are compelled to run from one exam to another.

As far as I am concerned, the students should have a more rational attitude toward certificates. Because exam certificates do not necessarily represent one's ability. For me, one just should work hard at his or her major. Opportunity will come to you if you are competent enough in your field.

                               Electronic Dictionaries

Some people prefer electronic dictionaries. They believe, as a study aid, this kind of new dictionary has many advantages. First, compared with a traditional dictionary, it's obviously very handy and convenient. Besides, due to its multifunction, it's also very helpful. It can not only translate words from English to Chinese, but vice versa. Some even can teach the learner how to pronounce a word. Most important of all, most of the entries in electronic dictionaries are comparatively updated.

However, others believe we shouldn't neglect its negative effects. They point out the constant use of such an electronic device may cause many problems or side effects. First, the definitions in the entries are very limited. In addition, there are not enough explanations, patterns, or examples to illustrate the correct usage of a word. Sometimes, some explanations are so simple that they may cause misleading. Last but not least, the constant use of this study aid can make people too much attached to the dictionary and become lazy, which will lead them to form a passive lazy attitude towards learning.

Therefore, my view is that we should use it properly. Every learner should have a good English dictionary at hand and treat the electronic one as a make-shift, when necessary. One thing we should always keep in mind is that basic language skills do not come from whatever kind of dictionaries but from practice. So, to sum up, an electronic dictionary is only an effective tool to get a good mastery of English.

Some Suggestions for the English Speech Contestants

The English speech contest is always the focus in every university. It is not only a kind of heated competition to select a few students with the best English fluency, but a festival for English learners to get together and learn from each other.

As a contestant, I think one should be confident and full of hope. Although there must be many competent candidates, you are one of them. Most of the time self-assurance will help you a lot to get to the very end of the game. Another important point one should bear in mind is that speech contest is a unique form of speaking. It involves many special techniques, such as advocating, stressing certain words, and make some gestures. After learning the article by heart, one should do more practice in performing, that is to say, in how to deliver the speech. Last but not the least, one should have proper attitude towards the final results. You should not emphasize too much on the ranking. It will only exist for the time being. As long as you have learned something through the contest, it's not a waste of time, and you will be quite clear about the direction for your future efforts.

To sum up, English speech contest is a kind of beneficial activity, which deserves the active participation of every college student.

                                  Two-day Weekend

The two-day weekend has done a lot of good to us since it was carried out. First, we can have much more leisure time to relax ourselves so that we will be energetic the following week. Second, we can have more chances to contact with the society by taking a part-time job or going sightseeing. It is also a good opportunity for us to communicate with each other. Third, we can have adequate time to review the lessons and preview what we will learn next week so as to make our studies more efficient. And finally, we can set aside time for various activities such as taking selective courses, attending lectures, joining various clubs and doing scientific researches.

Every sword has two blades. Problems do exist during the two-day weekend on campus. Some students may spend most of the time playing cards, playing computer games, sleeping, thus idling their time and leaving their assignment far away. Hence, the two-day weekend can only add to their laziness and bring nothing useful to them.

As a student, busy as I am with my study on weekdays, during the weekend the first thing I will do is to relax myself. I like to do many interesting things such as reading novels or writing articles. Of course, I will alto take a good rest to prepare myself for the next week's study. As the saying goes: All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. It's really true!

Nowadays, more and more university graduates complain that graduation does not equate to employment. They experience great difficulties finding satisfactory jobs. What is the cause of this phenomenon.

In my opinion, there are four causes:

First, graduates lack experience. They spend most of their time at school studying academic subjects and lack relevant job training. Only after graduation do they realize it's hard to find jobs.

Second, competition among graduates grows more bitter and more bitter and bitter. The supply of university graduates exceeds social demand. This results in a decreased chance for any individual graduate to find a job.

Third, some students don't study hard. Some of them skip classes just because they have no interest in certain subjects. Some play computer games or pursue other interests. Some sleep in class or in the library. Then they leave the sheltered environment of the university campus, to discover they don’t have adequate knowledge to apply for many positions, which makes them feel lost and frustrated.

Finally, some graduates are conceited. They lack experience but ask for a high salary, which is impractical.

So, university students should try their best to change this situation. When they are in school, they should make the most of their time and put their heart into their studies. They can hold part-time jobs in their spare time to accumulate relevant work experience. They should take part in some social activities and provide themselves with special training, if possible. When they graduate and apply for jobs, they should attach more importance to accumulating experience than to their starting salary.

On University Students' Pressure in Finding Jobs

About a decade ago, university students could find satisfactory and enviable jobs after their graduation. But now, things are different. Today's university students usually have much pressure in finding fairly good jobs. They always say disappointedly that graduation means joblessness. Why nowadays university students have so much pressure in finding jobs?

In my opinion, this kind of pressure is mainly caused by three reasons. Firstly, the government is enrolling more and more university students year by year. And the growth of the students' number has surpassed that of the need of the society. So, when so many students graduate at a time, the chance of finding jobs becomes tiny. Secondly, today's university students, most of them are the "only-child", who are more mentally frail. Since they are indulged greatly at home and haven't been trained to do things on their own, once it is their turn to go out of the campus and find jobs by themselves and decide what kind of jobs to choose, they feel bewildered and don't know what to do. If their first try fails, they will be frustrated and think that it is really hard to find jobs. Thirdly, some university students are not qualified for good and challenging jobs. After entering the university, they don't study as hard as they did in high schools. They begin to sleep during the class or even be absent for classes. Some are addicted to computer games or Jin Yong's novels, or step into the two-person-world too early. Because these things have taken up so much of their time and energy, their study is neglected. After four years of university life, they haven't gained the knowledge those fairly good jobs or certain positions require.

Increasing numbers of college students are cutting classes, which has caused a great deal of social concern and criticism. Some think that the larger part of the blame should go to the students. Others, however, think that it is the teachers who should be responsible. But I think both the students and the teachers have fault of their own.

Compared with middle school students, college students have relatively more "freedom". If they are not strict with themselves, chances are that they will oversleep in the morning, go to the Internet or find other activities to entertain themselves during class hours. In addition, some students have the misconception that work experience is more important than theoretical knowledge when it comes to job hunting. So they busy themselves in part time jobs when they should be attending class.

On the other hand, some teachers still conduct classes in the old fashioned way. Their classes are so boring that they make many students fall asleep. Besides, some textbooks are so out of date that they think it a waste of time attending classes.

In a word, both the students and the teachers should be wide awake to this serious problem and make great efforts to use the time at college to its best advantage.

                                 Health, Wealth and Happiness

Health, wealth and happiness are the three things people frequently talk about. On these three topics, different people may have different views. Some people assume that wealth is the most important part in their life for it can bring them happiness. Other people believe that nothing is more important than health because without good health they would have nothing including happiness.

It is true that wealth and health can bring happiness to people, but they do not always go hand in hand with happiness. To seek wealth, some weak-willed men may become pickpockets to steal money, or robbers to grab others' belongings, which will be bound to ruin themselves instead of bringing them happiness. On the other hand, it does not follow that a person with a strong body will surely enjoy happiness because the meaning of happiness involves much more than being healthy alone.

As we know, happiness is a feeling of pleasure and contentment. This feeling encourages people to work hard, making success and stimulates the disappointed to cheer up. With this precious feeling, a person in poor health may get over his illness sooner and recover better with the help of doctors. As happiness always promises hope to people, let's develop a healthy outlook and keep a pleasant state of mind.

                                             Tourism Wave

The first ever week-long May's Holiday enabled holiday tourism, a newly rising industry, to spring up overnight. As a result, it's estimated that around 46 million domestic tourists traveled within the country during the holiday. However, the long May's holiday left people with many things to think about in addition to the over-crowdedness in the scenic spots and traffic jams. Why do so many, frugal Chinese now suddenly become holiday makers? What led to the tourism wave? I think there are many reasons for it.

Ostensibly, the tourism wave is a direct result of the lengthy holiday and ideal weather. Besides, the other reasons seem simple enough. With basic needs satisfied, people begin to look for higher-level consumption so as to improve their quality in life. Hence traveling becomes their first choice, even a must in life.

In reality, I think the undergoing reason is the deep, ongoing reform and opening-up program. With the macro-economic situations taking a favorable return, people's disposable income has risen to a high consumption level. As a result, the swelling pockets have enabled more and more people to go sightseeing. In addition, the travel frenzy also reflects the change in customers' psychology and form of consumption. Finally, it also reveals-4heir desire to improve their quality in life.a

Fame and recognition are so attractive that most of us are pursuing them desperately. We admire those who become famous at a young age and we hope the same thing will happen to us.

However, an important fact has been neglected: Talent and good chance are the main factors for an early success. Most young people are not geniuses, so young people should be encouraged to pursue long term, realistic goals rather than seek immediate fame and recognition.

Only in the process of pursuing long term, realistic goals can knowledge be accumulated. Some young people always complain, "I am not successful just because I don't have good chance." But a famous saying tells us; Chance only patronize people who have got preparation.

Without accumulation of knowledge, how can one achieve his life goal or grasp the good chance? Knowledge is power. Albert Einstein, such a genius, had returned to university to learn math related to physics for seven years before he wrote his theory.

And secondly, one can become mature and persistent in the process of pursuing long-term, realistic goals. The way of pursuing long term goals is a rough one. But only through many setbacks and failures, can one become tougher and more persistent so that he/she wouldn't get frustrated easily in later time or even get prepared to confront another setback. Such persistent spirit is vital in one's success. I remember a famous person once said, "One must endure great loneliness while pursuing his goal." People who experience this process tend to be more mature. They are likely to hold steering wheel of their life firmly because they are clearly aware of what they really want in life.

Furthermore, an early success may be dangerous. Young people with fame and recognition tend to get lost. As a famous saying goes, "you live with a fame and you will learn to limp."Fame is like a heavy burden pressed on your shoulder. Young people are often unable to release the burden correctly. Some of them release themselves in extreme ways such as taking drug or getting drunk. Hollywood movie star, July Barymoore, is one of them. She got famous at the age of eight, then she took drug and often got drunk and was sent to prison twice. "I felt I was in a black hole and I completely lost my direction at that time." She recalled.

Young people lack vital factors for success like knowledge and experience. Moreover, they are not mature enough to endure failures, setbacks and heavy burdens. They are not sober enough to resist the temptation when they got fame and recognition. In short, young people should be encouraged to pursue long-term,realistic goals rather than seek immediate fame and recognition.

                                     On Idol Worshipping

                                        On Idol Worshipping

Idol worshipping is not a new phenomenon, but the recent cases of unreasonable behaviors conducted by some young people have made it a focus of attention again. Especially, a young girl's father has committed suicide just to wake up his daughter who is possessed by the idea of following her idol wherever he goes.

Some people argue that the mass media is to blame for the tragedy. The media always show a picture of glamorous movie stars, pop singers and all the other entertainers. They represent a lifestyle that young people desire to have. While the young people are just not mature enough to distinguish the reality from the dream. Other people believe that it shows the weakness of our educational system. The school pays much attention on their studies and exams, while overlooks their psychological status.

As far as I am concerned, I think the tragedy sends out an alarm signal to us all. The media, the school, the parents and even the youth themselves have to reflect on the issue and try to stop such kind of tragedy from happening again.

A proverb says "Time is money." But in my opinion, time is even more precious than money. Why? Because when money is spent, we can earn it back. However, when time is gone, it will never return. This is the reason why we must value time.

It goes without saying that the time for our study and work is unusually limited. Hence, even an hour is extremely precious. We should make full use of our time to do useful things. As a student, I must make efforts to engage in my study so as to serve our nation and people in the future. But it is a pity that there. are a lot of people who do not know the importance of time. They do not realize that wasting time is equal to wasting a part of their valuable life.

In a word, we should form the good habit of saving time. Do not put off what can be done today till tomorrow. Laziness will not only bring us failure but also lead us to the road of poverty.

Many a time in my life I've been asking myself about what career I shall take and what I can do to prepare myself for it. Although my ideas are not consistent, I have now decided on college teaching as my life-long career.

A variety of reasons have led me to choose this occupation over other more lucrative ones. First, teaching means learning. College is a place where I can enrich my knowledge and improve myself. Besides, to make my lectures more constructive and stimulating, I have to read extensively, explore new knowledge and gain a better understanding of the world --the very thing I enjoy in my life. Second, teaching means independence. As a teacher, I am my own boss and free to use my own ideas to make my own decisions. It is a privilege not everyone can have, even those with highly-paid positions. The content of my lessons and the way of delivering lessons largely depend on myself. Finally, I like teaching because it offers a sense of dignity. A teacher is not only a person who passes down knowledge, but a person who plays an important role in the process of students' growing. To be a teacher, I am a person who helps to create and would students' personality. I am proud of such a noble career.

However, teaching is a demanding job. Only a person with rich knowledge can make a qualified teacher. In order to be a college teacher, I shall study hard not only in class, but also in daily life. Moreover, I shall train my patience, improve my handwriting, and enlarge my knowledge.

This kind of diapers is a one-time product.

正译:This kind of diapers is a disposable product.

  解释:one-time 的意思是not to be repeated,即“不可重复的”。

When you pay for an anti-virus program subscription, you are buying a continuing service, not a one-time product.

He is a repeat customer, who is not just in need of a one-time product.

The scientist is making a research on how to recycle disposable products.

The nurse gave the patient an injection with a disposable syringe.

Waste must be brought in a non-returnable container.

  “一次性的”第二个意思是“只发生或只做一次而不再重复”,常常与金钱有关。英语用 one-time, one-off, lump-sum 或non-recurring等表示。 If you pay a one-time fee of $500,no monthly fees will occur after the upgrade.

The local government offers one-off grants for anti-poverty projects.

We do not want to include these kinds of non-recurring expenses in this transaction.

The Problems of Plastic Bags

Plastic bags have found their way into a wide area of everyday life. They are applied in big supermarkets, ordinary shops, small stores and street markets. People put in plastic bags everything they buy. They no longer need to carry cloth bags, leather bags or basket bags with them when go shopping. Obviously it is very convenient for plastic bags to be used in people’s everyday life. They are also very cheap. They are usually offered free of charge.

However, plastic bags also bring us side effects. Some people throw away plastic bags causally. This causes the white pollution to our environment , which is very harmful because plastic bags can not disappear by natural decomposition. This is certainly not beneficial to our future.

People have to be careful with the use of plastic bags. They should make sure they put the sued plastic bags into the dustbin when they want to dispose of them. It also might be better for people to use the traditional cloth bags to hold the goods they buy instead of using plastic bags.

It is reported that the number of teenage smokers has been on the rise in recent years, which has caused great concern among people in ail walks or life. There are several reasons that account for this fact, but the following three may be the main ones.

First of all, it is easy for teenagers to get cigarettes. Cigarettes are available almost everywhere. Today's teens have more spare money, which comes from the improved living standard of their parents. They can buy what they want, including cigarettes. Second, teenagers smoke because their adolescent years are filled with psychological problems. One of these problems, for example, is establishing a sense of identity.

The teen years are the time when young people want to be more independent from their parents and form their own values. The enormous mental pressures of these years can make some people turn to smoking. A final, and perhaps most important, reason is peer pressure to conform. Teens often become very close to special friends, for one thing, and they will share a friend's interest, even if one of these is smoking. Teenagers also attend parties and other social gatherings where it is all important to be one of the crowds, to be "cool." Even the most mature teenager might be tempted to smoke than to risk being an outcast. For all these reasons, cigarettes are a major problem facing teenagers

My Viewpoint on Unemployment of College Graduates

With the policy of expanding recruitment of higher education and fierce competition of job-hunting market, the unemployment of college graduation is becoming the hot issue of the whole society. The college graduates constantly complain being rejected by some promising company in the job-hunting market. Even most jobs provided in the job-hunting declaredly excluded the graduates, only welcoming the experienced employers. Even worse, entering for the post graduation examination is becoming an approach to escaping the problem of unemployment.

Is that really difficult for college graduates to hunt job? In fact, the answer might be “no” . There are three reasons for unemployment of college graduates. The first one is the deficiency of practical vocational skills and academic knowledge. The second is the inappropriately evaluation of his own value in job market. The third is the actually fierce competition resulting from the policy of expanding recruitment of higher education.

To successfully compete in the job market as a college graduate, you must work hard to master the academic and vocational skills during you college life. Of course, consciously training your practical skills by taking part-time job will be advisable.

I am a third year master major in automation at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, P. R. China. With tremendous interest in Industrial Engineering, I am writing to apply for acceptance into your Ph.D. graduate program.

Education background

In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology (NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. During the following undergraduate study, my academic records kept distinguished among the whole department. I was granted First Class Prize every semester, and my overall GPA(89.5/100) ranked No.1 among 113 students. In 1999, I got the privilege to enter the graduate program waived of the admission test. I selected the Shanghai Jiao Tong University to continue my study for its best reputation on Combinatorial Optimization and Network Scheduling where my research interest lies.

At the period of my graduate study, my overall GPA(3.77/4.0) ranked top 5% in the department. In the second semester, I became teacher assistant that is given to talented and matured students only. This year, I won the Acer Scholarship as the one and only candidate in my department, which is the ultimate accolade for distinguished students endowed by my university. Presently, I am preparing my graduation thesis and trying for the honor of Excellent Graduation Thesis.

         Research experience and academic activity

When a sophomore, I joined the Association of AI Enthusiast and began to narrow down my interest for my future research. In 1997, I participated in simulation tool development for the scheduling system in Prof. Wang’s lab. With the tool of OpenGL and Matlab, I designed a simulation program for transportation scheduling system. It is now widely used by different research groups in NUST. In 1998, I assumed and fulfilled a sewage analysis & dispose project for Nanjing sewage treatment plant. This was my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.

In 1999, I joined the distinguished Professor Yu-Geng Xis research group aiming at Network flow problem solving and Heuristic algorithm research. Soon I was engaged in the FuDan Gene Database Design. My duty was to pick up the useful information among different kinds of gene matching format. Through the comparison and analysis for many heuristic algorithms, I introduced an improved evolutionary algorithm -- Multi-population Genetic Algorithm. By dividing a whole population into several sub-populations, this improved algorithm can effectively prevent GA from local convergence and promote various evolutionary orientations. It proved more efficiently than SGA in experiments, too. In the second semester, I joined the workshop-scheduling research in Shanghai Heavy Duty Tyre plant. The scheduling was designed for the rubber-making process that covered not only discrete but also continuous circumstances. To make a balance point between optimization quality and time cost, I proposed a Dynamic Layered Scheduling method based on hybrid Petri Nets. The practical application showed that the average makespan was shortened by a large scale. I also publicized two papers in core journals with this idea. Recently, I am doing research in the Composite Predict of the Electrical Power system assisted with the technology of Data Mining for Bao Steel. I try to combine the Decision Tree with Receding Optimization to provide a new solution for the Composite Predictive Problem. This project is now under construction.

Besides, In July 2000, I got the opportunity to give a lecture in English in Asia Control Conference (ASCC) which is one of the top-level conferences among the world in the area of control and automation. In my senior year, I met Prof. Xiao-Song Lin, a visiting professor of mathematics from University of California-Riverside, I learned graph theory from him for my network research. These experiences all rapidly expanded my knowledge of English and the understanding of western culture.

I hope to study in depth

In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory and experience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program.                                     33、

                              The Experience of Learning English

My friends say that I'm good in English, because I always get good marks in English tests and I have just scored the highest points in the interview. They think I'm a talented girl and I'm clever at English from the beginning.

But in fact, I'm not a talented girl. I'm just a common girl. I'd like to say something about my experience of learning English.

I didn't do well in English in the beginning. I started my English course at the age of 10. Maybe you can't imagine, I couldn't say a whole sentence at that time. I couldn't catch up with my classmates because of my bad base. Having a bad base may be many students' problem. I was sad about it, but I wasn't afraid of it.

The next summer holiday, I spent almost all of my free time practicing English by listening to the tape and repeating after it. Whenever it was, wherever I was, I kept the tape on. I listened carefully and I tried to recite the article.

Soon, I found I had made a good progress in my English. At least, I could understand what the teacher said in class. Then slowly, I could get good marks at times. This taught me a good lesson. That is not to be afraid of setbacks, hard work makes progress. This is the first part of my English learning.

When I was in Grade Six and Seven, my English was much better than it was. I could always get good marks in tests. My English skills still couldn't compare with the top students in my class. My spoken English was really poor. I got a 'B' in my spoken English at the end of the first term. This showed what I was weak at. I decided to improve it. This was the second part. I knew that study is a process. If I want to improve my spoken English in one or two days, that's impossible. I must spend a long time reading more, listening more, writeing more and talking more.

The third part is the hardest. English is really important today, so I wanted to make myself excellent. I take an English course called New Concept English by myself. Maybe you have heard about it. This is a good English course and I learn it by myself. I think it's really important for you to learn how to learn English by yourself. You can try English course or other ways which matches you.I think it's necessary to be outgoing and confident. Don't be shy, don't be silent. I want to improve my English skills, so I need to talk and write. This isn't a problem for me, because I'm always confident and like to try. I talk to foreign teachers.

I have some other advice as well.

I must say don't be nervous, try to be relaxed when you write articles or talk to foreign teachers or just talk to your English teacher. Remember: Don't pay too much attention to details when you are talking. If you have some mistakes, that's all right. Thinking and talking in English, this creates a wonderful feeling to me. I can see my progresses during these years. I spent many years improving my English and I never give up. So, it's never too late to practice English, from now on.

(Advantages and Disadvantages of the Cell Phone) advantages and disadvantages of the cell phone

Nowadays, with the rapid development of IT and information industry, cell phones play a dominant role in towns people's life. But, like everything else, they have both favorable and mffavorahle aspects.

First, it's useful. As a wireless mobile telephone, it's easy and handy to early to wherever one goes and call the callee however far away he is. Therefore, it greatly facilitates people's life. Second, it's convenient. Whenever one meets trouble or something urgent, one can nmke a call immediately. Most important of all, it's a very helpful companion. With a multirfunction cell phone in hand, one can easily get on the Net, browsing the useful information, conducting e-commerce and doing whatever one can do via Internet.

However, just as everything has two sides, the cell phone also has many disadvantages. To begin with, it's expensive to buy and costly to pay the hills, esp. that of global service. To make matters worse, it's also easy to lose and costly to get it repaired. Worst of all,it's not as clear as a family telephone and sometimes the number dialed is often not available. Last but not least, it's alleged the microwaves in it might do harm to people's health.

In my opinion, with its expenses greatly reduced after China's entry into the WTO, it will face an ever brighter future in its development. Someday most of them will be developed into new Intemet-enabled mobile phones, which will be as useful as pocket computers. And I believe its advantages will not only offset its disadvantages, but also far outweigh them.

One of the themes that are common to everyone is how to become success. As to whether luck plays an important role in people's success, different people hold different views due to their distinct backgrounds. Some believe that luck is essential to people's success, while others assert that luck has nothing to do with success. As matter of fact, the issue is complex and controversial one. On balance, I tend to agree that luck is a valuable factor contributed to people's success. My view can be greatly substantiated by the following discussions.

The main reason for my view is that although hard work is the necessary condition to gain success, luck can give people more opportunities to reach their goals. It is said that "no pain, no gain", with enough luck, however, people can succeed more easily. At this point, my experience may fairly prove the opinion. When I graduated from college, I was in a dilemma to choose a position in two corporations, which were both famous internet companies, and both provided me the similar salary and position. Finally, I selected one and gave up another just by chance. As a result, the corporation I didn't choose bankrupted in one year, and the corporation I worked in was flourishing, and successfully launched its' stocks finally. With the shares of stocks that the company provided to me, I got the unexpected fortune of about 300,000 Yuan. It is luck that really brings me the extra reward.

Apart from opportunities brought by luck, in some special instances, luck may determine people's fate – a loser or winner, a victim or a survivor. For example, Einstein, a famous founder of the relativity theory and also a Jew, fortunately left Germany and was living in USA when Hitler began to slaughter Jews. Suppose he still lived in Germany at that time, maybe the world would lose one of the most distinguished physicists.

Admittedly, it is the fact that hard work plays the most pivotal role in people's success. And also we can not overlook some negative impact of luck on people's success in that luck may bring people success easily, but it may also let people lose success rapidly. Nevertheless, we can not deny that Luck opens more doors to success, or even changes people's fate totally.

In sum, although we can not ignore the importance of hard work and some negative impact of luck on people's success, in the light of the above discussion, it can be safely said that Luck contributes a lot to people's success, especially in creating possibilities to succeed and changing people's fate. When luck comes to embrace or visit people, people should not let it slip away.

Different people have different views on opportunity. It is held that there are few opportunities. But it is also held that there are opportunities everywhere.

Those who hold the first opinion think that there are too many people and there is always an intense competition for limited opportunities. In contrast, those who hold the second view think that if one is not prepared, he can hardly have any opportunities: however, if one is prepared, he can have a lot of opportunities.

As to me, I agree with the latter. Adminedly, there is really an intense competition for limited opportunities, but it is not to say the one can't create opportunities himself. In most cases opportunities are created by people themselves. For example, many people lost their jobs in recent years. Some people wait for opportunities in vain. However, others create opportunities themselves and get self-employed. Eventually they become employers themselves.

Therefore, to some extent, one can take his destiny into his own hands.

This is Teachers' Day and a time to be grateful to all teachers. This profession deserves the special recognition and respect. There is no more appropriate time than this to honor you and others in your chosen field. You have my eternal gratefulness. Have a happy Teachers' Day. The whole secret of the teacher's force lies in the conviction that men are convertible. Teacher, who educate children, deserve more honor than parents, who merely gave them birth; for the latter provided more life, while the former ensure a good life. What sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to the soule.

My heartfelt thanks to you, dear teacher. On the voyage of life, you have kindled the light of hope for me. What you have done enriches my mind and broadens my view. On this day I honour you sincerely. No one deserves a bigger thank you than you. One day is hardly enough to show our gratitude.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Learning Online

Along with the accelerated development of computer science, innovative instructors at institutions worldwide have invented an up-to-date teaching mode--online learning. With the help of online learning, an increasing number of people can receive education of good quality via the Internet or local network.

Compared with traditional classroom learning, online learning is advantageous in the following aspects. Firstly, online courses provide an excellent method of course delivery unbound by time and location. Learners can have access to the courses they are interested in at any time and in any place once their computers have joined the net system. Secondly, online learning enables learners to take control of their own learning process, because the3' have autonomy to decide study pace and course materials, last but not least, online learning, in particular, is suitable and convenient for adults who are occupied with their jobs. Tanks to online learning, they can reeducate themselves and reach their academic as well as career goals.

Just as every coin has two sides, online learning also has its obvious disadvantages. For example, it cannot supply an authentic communicative environment. And besides, a considerable amount of information put up online sometimes confuses learners if they are incapable of telling between the good and the bad of learning materials.

As a fantastic method of transferring knowledge, online learning has broken the limited effect of distance and has made a revolutionary challenge to traditional school learning. Even though online learning has its own limitations, there is no doubt that it will make great contribution to the development of education.

                                      Knowledge and Diploma

People usually connect knowledge with diploma. When you have got a certain amount of knowledge in a school or a university, you can get a diploma. A diploma is a ruler to measure whether a person is qualified for a certain job after studying for a period of time.

It doesn’t mean, however, a person who has rich knowledge should 'have a diploma. A person can  get knowledge by self-studying or in practice. So a diploma can not be used to measure a person's ability for a certain job.

And we cannot take it for granted that a person with a diploma is knowledgeable. Some people make false diploma. Some people buy diploma with money. This action cheats not only the public society, but also the buyers themselves. In order to spread actual knowledge, the government should make laws to prevent the spreading of cheating.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: Do Part-time Jobs Waste Time? You should write at least 150 words and base your composition on the outline given below in Chinese:

1,做兼职是否会浪费学生的学习时间,明确阐述你的观点;

                                 Do Part-time Jobs Waste Time?

It is a controversial issue whether or not taking part-time jobs is good for students. Some people say that students should not have jobs because it wastes time that should be used for studying. However, I disagree with that idea for the following two reasons.

First, when it comes to learning how to be sociable, there is nothing more useful than having a job Some might argue that people learn social skills by attending school. However, it can not be denied that having a job enables students to face situations that can not be addressed at school. For example, students can learn how to be patient with customers' irrational complaints, how to compete with their co-workers, and so on. As society is getting more competitive, human relationships are becoming more complicated. In the past, a job was only a means of living; but now, it plays a primary role in learning social skills.

Moreover, having jobs can teach students the difficulty of earning money. After taking part-time jobs, students may understand how hard their parents have worked to support the family. From understanding the hard work of their parents to having a sense of responsibility, there is nothing more beneficial for students than having part-time jobs.

In summary, although students' primary task is learning, I believe that having part-time jobs is both a desirable and beneficial experience.

                                       Adversity and Prosperity

People tend to complain, "Why am I not a president but a most ordinary clerk?" "Why am I not a millionaire who doesn’t have to work desperately with such a poor salary?" or "Why can’t I invent something to change peoples life and carve a place or myself in history?" The answer is somewhat simple: their lives are going too smooth. In other words, they have never undergone the true adversity which prosperity often has its roots in.

Adversity often leads to prosperity. Painful and difficult as it is, adversity requires courage to face, great courage that not all people have. Thus, when confronted by adversity, some people sink and others overcome it with constant painstaking struggle. The latter will henceforth have intense passion to achieve their goals and tremendous determination to overwhelm any difficulties on their way to the destination, for they believe the worst has gone by. Jiacheng Lee, who is said to be the wealthiest person in China, had suffered a lot before he made his fortune. Born in a small family, he had to earn a living to support his family without finishing his junior school study. He peddled near a plastic factory, selling plastic flowers he himself made. Gradually his hard work enabled him to save up enough money to run a real business. From then on, he often defeated his opponents by investing riskily in some huge projects, which rewarded him with considerable profits. When asked about reasons for such tour age, Jiacheng Lee said laconically, "If I had failed, I would have at least gone back to be a peddler again. I would lose nothing.” It is obvious that his success grows from the fertile soil of adversity of his early years.

On the contrary, those who haven’t experienced the adversity are to some extent content with the present life, and they aren’t determined to break up these pleasant days to venture into some unknown field. Therefore, they mostly couldn’t bring their potential into full play. But it doesn’t mean that none of the people living in happiness can succeed. Bill Gates, another millionaire, has a much more fortunate experience though. But besides his ability and his sharp eye for chances, another factor also explains his success a sense of threatened. He knows clearly that he will be eliminated in the fierce competition if he slows down his pace of innovation. This threat makes him think as in adversity at least not in a pleasant resting place. His story also shows that prosperity and adversity, in a sense, are intertwined.

In adversity, while pessimists think there comes the end of the world and lose all hope, optimists remain cheerful. They will never be blinded by their pain, they know hope is there within, they keep struggling, and at last they will reach prosperity.
