与of 搭配的形容词用法举例

英语中有许多形容词可与of搭配,构成固定表达法,灵活掌握这些常用搭配,可丰富我们的语言表现力。形容词与of常用搭配归纳如下:

1.be afraid of “害怕……恐怕.…..”

There’s nothing to be afraid of.

没什么可怕的。

I was afraid of hurting feelings.

我可怕伤了她的感情。

2. be ashamed of “对……感到惭愧”

   Don’t be ashamed of yourself.

   You should be ashamed of what you have done.

3. be aware of “意识到,知道”

We are fully aware of the gravity of the situation.

我们十分明白情势的严重性。

They became aware of a peculiar smell in the room.

他们发觉房间有一股特别的气味。

4.(be)capable of“有……  能力的;能……  的;有做出(坏事)倾向的”

Show your teacher what you are capable of.

向老师展示出你自己的才能。

The boy is capable of telling a lie.

   这男孩会撒谎。

5.be characteristic of “特有的,代表”

Winter days are characteristic of March.

有风的天气是3月的特点

We need to introduce sophisticated production techniques that are of the more developed economies.

我们需要引进代表比较发达经济特点的尖端技术。

6.be confident of “相信,有信心”

   He is confident of victory.

   他对胜利坚信无疑。

   The student is confident of passing the examination.

   这学生自信能考及格。

7.be conscious of “意识到,知道”

   I was not conscious of having made a mistake.

   我没意识到犯了错误。

   The murderer was conscious of his guilt.

   谋杀者自知有罪。

8.be critical of “对……挑剔”

   He is critical of grammar in the speech of other people.

   他爱挑别人讲话中的语法错误。

   She was always critical of me.

    她老是挑我的刺。

9.be doubtful of [about] “对……怀疑”;“不大可能的”

   He is doubtful of the news.

   The agreement seemed doubtful of achievement.

   看来协议不大可能达成。

10.be economical of  “节俭,节约”

   She is economical of her smiles.

   她很少笑。

   The man is economical of his time.

   这人很节约时间。

11. be fond of “喜欢”

   My daughter is passionately fond of poetry.

   我女儿热爱诗歌。

   This writer is fond of quoting these lines.

   这位作家喜欢引用这些诗句。

12.be guilty of “犯了……罪”;“对……感到内疚”

   What crime was he guilty of?

   他犯了什么罪?

   You have been guilty of a serious blunder.

   你犯了个大错误。

13.be ignorant of (about)“不知道的”,“无知”

   What his plans are I am quite ignorant of.

   我一点也不知道他的计划是什么。

   His parents are kept ignorant of the fact that he failed in the examination.

   关于他考试不及格这件事他父母还蒙在鼓里。

14.(be) independent of “不依赖”,“不管,不顾”

   He is independent of his parents.

   他不依赖父母而自立。

   Independent of how others felt, they were sure they wee right.

   不管别人怎么想,他们坚信自己是对的。

15.be innocent of “无罪的,清白的”,“无知的”

   The girl is innocent of the charge.

   这女孩无罪。

   He is entirely innocent of Japanese.

   他对日语一窍不通。

16.be incapable of “不会”,“不能”,

   He is incapable of being kind to people.

   他不会对别人粗暴苛刻。

   The bicycle is incapable of repair.

   这辆自行车已没法修好了。

17.be incredulous of “不相信,不轻信”

   They are incredulous of everything that their eyes have not seen.

   他们不会相信任何自己没有亲眼所见的东西。

   She is incredulous of hearsay.

   她不轻信道听途说。

18.be jealous of “妒忌”,“珍惜”

   Don’t be jealous of others’ success!

   切莫妒忌别人的成功。

   Everyone should be jealous of his hard-won rights.

   人人都应珍惜自己的之不易的权利。

19.(be) oblivious of “忘却,不顾”

    He seemed totally oblivious of my presence.

他似乎全然忘却了我的存在。

They are working hard, oblivious of all fatigue.

他们不顾疲劳地努力工作,

20. be proud of “对……感到骄傲,自豪”

   He was proud of what he had done.

   他因自己所做的事而自豪。

   These are poets of whom any country might be proud.

   这些是任何国家都引以为荣的诗人。

21. (be) representative of“代表”,“描写”

This government is truly representative of the popular will.

本届政府真正代表民意。

This is a narrative representative of army life.

这是一部描写部队生活的故事。

22.(be) short of“缺少 ,达不到,”

   We are short of men.

   我们人手不足。

   Present supplies of fruit are short of requirements.

   当前水果供不应求。

22.(be) shy of “羞于”,“对…… 感到怀疑”,“缺少”

   I am a bit shy of that sort of person.

   我对那种人有点怀疑。

   Don’t be shy of telling them what you think.

   你有什么想法尽管告诉他们,不要有顾虑。

   She was shy two months of her nineteenth birthday.

   她差两个月就是19岁生日。

23. be sick of “对…… 感到厌倦”,“厌恶”

   I am sick of this bad weather.

   我对这种天气讨厌透了。

   I’m sick to death of being blamed for everything that goes wrong.

   啥事都怪我,真是烦死了

24. be suspicious of “对…… 起疑心”, “怀疑”

   She was suspicious of all her neighbors.

   她对所有的邻居都有疑心。

   I am suspicious of his intentions [motives, promise].

   我怀疑他的意图[动机,诺言]。

 

25. be tired of “厌倦,讨厌”

   I am heartily tired of all these troubles.

   我对这些麻烦事感到厌烦透了。

   I am tired of having the same kind of food every day.

   天天吃同样的东西,我都感到腻了。

26. be typical of “典型的,有代表性的”

   It is typical of him to take hard jobs.

   勇挑重担是他的特点。

   As a historian, he was most typical of the times in which he lived.

   作为历史学家,他是他所处的时代很有代表性的人物。

27. be worthy of“值得…… ”,“配得上的”

   It is hardly worthy of serious consideration.

   这几乎不值得认真考虑。

   The book is well worthy of his reputation.

   这本书完全配得上他的声望。
