四. Supplementary information
1. 欧美三餐: breakfast, lunch, supper
2. breakfast: bread, drink, cereal(谷类,如麦片粥、玉米片),egg, ham(火腿), bacon. Eggs are cooked varies, such as fried egg(煎荷包蛋),scrambled egg(炒蛋), omelet(煎蛋卷), boiled egg(煮蛋),poached egg(煮荷包蛋). Boiled egg includes hard (全熟) and soft (半熟); fried egg includes over(两面全熟) and sunny side up(单煎). Bread classified to toast, waffles(奶蛋饼, 华夫饼), pancakes(薄烤饼), biscuits(小甜面包), corn muffins(玉米松饼), coffee cake(配咖啡吃的糕饼), sweet rolls(面包卷). Drink includes juice, milk and coffee.
3. lunch: usually is taken at snack bar(小吃店) or cafeteria(自助餐厅). The foods often are sandwich, hot dog, hamburger, additional milk, coffee or coke. But sometimes a dinner(正餐) will be shared with friends.
4. supper: is the most abundant meal in a day, also be called dinner. It always includes soup, juice, appetizer, salad, main course, dessert and coffee. Meat foods always include beef, mutton(羊肉), pork, fish, chicken. Potato is done by baked, mashed(泥), boiled, fried etc. materials for salad are lettuce(莴苣), cabbage, tomatoes. Desserts always are pie, cake, pudding, ice cream, sherbet, fruit. If you are lazy, you can buy 'frozen dinner' from supermarket and only heat it in an oven. Also, you can enjoy your supper while watching TV, that's a TV dinner.
5. Comity: Despite of few formal dining-room, each one is assigned 3 to 4 tableware including knives, forks, spoons. A dinner plate(餐盘) is always put in front of you, with table-knives and soup-spoons on the right, but the forks on the left. If there is soup on the table, there will be a bit bigger spoon beside the soup-spoon. Bigger spoon is only be used to drink soup, but not to ladle(舀) other food. Attention, never make any noise in eating.
The usage of napkin(餐巾) is to unfold it(it is twice folio previous) and to put it on the knees evenly and cover the knees. The napkin can be used to wipe mouth when necessary. Don't put the napkin in you collar. And you can put the napkin on the table casually after meal, do not need to fold it despite of your next meal is taken at the same table.
If there is a small dish on the left of the dinner plate, that's for playing bread, and the knife beside the dish is for taking butter. Tear the bread and butter it, don't butter the whole bread on time.
At a informal dinner, there is a bowl of salad for everyone, and it should be taken at first. While at a more formal dinner, salad is in a large salad bowl, you must take it yourself and have it with other food. Knives and forks could be all put or the right when unnecessary, but their end shouldn't touch the table.
If there are few persons, you shouldn't begin to eat till everyone is present.
