Bureau of
Basic Research and Bureau of Comprehensive Planning of Chinese
Academy of Sciences (CAS) arranged an Expert Test Group for
the locale test of the LAMOST Project in Xinglong
Observatory, National Astronomical Observatories (NAOC) from Dec.15
to Dec.18 2008 meanwhile an Appraisal Acceptance
Expert Group was arranged
for LAMOST technics
appraisal acceptance on Dec.19
2009。
The
Appraisal Acceptance Expert Group includes 17 experts such as
Academician Shuhua Ye, Academician Jiaqi Wang, Academician Wenlong
Zhan, Academician Jiansheng Chen, Academician Nenghong Zhu, and
among them Ye and Wang are the group leader and vice group leader
respectively。
The Appraisal Acceptance Expert Group checked LAMOST
engineering locale and the
related technical documents very carefully, and listened to the
Manufacturing Technical Report by General Engineer Prof. Xiangqun
Cui of the LAMOST Project。
Furthermore they also listened to the
LAMOST locale Test Report by the Expert Test Group
Leader Academician Jiaqi Wang before their
deliberation。
The Appraisal Acceptance Expert Group came to believe that LAMOST
has broken through the difficulty of optical telescopes having both
large aperture and large field of view, and realized active optics
technology on both the Primary Mirror and the Schmidt Mirror by
real-time perfect segmentation of several tens of thin deformable
sub-mirrors, and made a survey and evaluation of 4000 objects by
the 4000 fibers in the field of view。
LAMOST is the large Schmidt telescope with the largest aperture,
the largest field of view and the highest spectrum obtaining rate
in the world, and it is approved by the international
colleagues.
LAMOST has many technology innovations during the manufacturing and
it lays a solid foundation for the future development of even
larger telescope。
According to the requirements ratified by the State Development and
Reform Commission(SDRC), the Expert Group all agreed that the
optical quality of LAMOST is much better than project
specification, the pointing and tracking accuracy of LAMOST,
positioning precision of 4000 fiber units are all better than task
requirements, the multi-object spectroscopic subsystem consisting
of 4000 fiber units, 16 spectrographs and 32 CCD cameras works
properly, the fiber light transmission rate is better than
99%。
The LAMOST construction has been completely finished with high
quality, and all devices work well。
The LAMOST project is advised to be submitted for State
appraisal。In considerations of the advanced technology and
complicated system of LAMOST, the Expert Group also suggested to
reinforce and make perfect the Management team, Running team and
Support system as soon as possible to bring its benefit into full
play and better realize scientific goals。
