Truck drivers begin strike 韩司机罢工抗议高油价

About 13,000 South Korean truck drivers launched a strike Friday to protest surging oil prices,paralyzing the country's major seaports and cause severe losses to exporters. They demanded the government increase fuel subsidies and introduce a minimum wage. The strike is the latest headache for President Lee Myung-bak,who has faced weeks of street demonstrations over his agreement to resume American beef imports.

因油价不断上涨,大约1.3万名韩国货车司机13日举行全国罢工,要求政府提高燃油补助,引进最低工资制度。韩国通往各主要港口的运输因此次罢工受到严重影响。过去两周,韩国各地爆发大规模示威游行,抗议政府进口美国牛肉。此次货车司机罢工无疑给已陷入困境的李明博政府雪上加霜。

Joint oil search proposed 两岸欲同开发台湾油田

Chiang Pin-kun,chairman of the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation,proposed Thursday the joint exploration of oil fields and other energy sources in the Taiwan Straits between the Chinese Petroleum Corp. of taiwan and China national Offshore Oil Corp. Chen Yunlin,chairman of the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits,accepted his proposal.

Downpour kills 6 in Shenzhen 深圳特大暴雨致6人亡

At least 6 people were killed and 21 flights cancelled in Shenzhen as a downpour hit the city Friday morning. The rainstorm caused landslides and traffic jams in many parts of the city. Among the victims,4 people were killed by collapsed houses,and the other 2 were electrocuted by a fallen electricity pole.

13日凌晨,深圳一场特大暴雨导致市内许多道路交通阻塞,多处山体塌方,造成至少6人死亡、21个航班取消。其中4人因民房倒塌被掩埋而死;2人因电线杆倒塌触电身亡。

French grads earn most 法语毕业平均月薪最高

Gradustes majoring in French get the highest monthly salary - RMB4,783 on average,according to a survey called "Job Applications and Work Capability of 2007 Graduates" in China of 2,113 universities. Graduates in petroleum engineering,certified public accountant,German and micro-electronics rank the 2nd to the 5th respectively on the list.

House to impeach Bush 众议院提交弹劾布什案

The US House of representatives voted Wednesday to send a Bush impeachment bill to the House Judiciary Committee for review. The 35 articles of impeachment included charges like Bush's fault for going to war against Irag and his approval of wiretapping. Democratic leaders in the House said the impeachment was insignificant when Bush was to leave office and would influence other more important issues for review.

In the Asia-Pacific region,politicains are the most corrupt group followed by the police,with the judiciary running a close third,according to a UNDP report released Thursday. Nearly 1 in 5 people claim to have paid a bribe to police in the previous year.

"pass the buck"

有一种人,明明自己把事情搞砸却不承认。这种行为就是“pass the buck”。“Buck”在这里不是“美元”的意思,而是玩纸牌时用的一种东西。玩牌时,由于怕人耍诈,因此规定轮换发牌。发牌人通常用刀做记号。由于刀柄上一雄鹿角(buck)做的,因此记号的东西也被叫作“buck”。当轮到下一个人发牌时,“buck”就传给他(pass the buck),也就是发牌权传给了他。后来,这个短语演变成了“把责任推给别人”。
