2011高考英语常考英文谚语集锦

英语谚语是洋溢着异国文化气息的哲理性语言,是智慧的结晶。近年的高考英语试题中的谚语的出现频率越来越高,它通常与情景交际题、阅读理解等题型结合,用来提供情景或点明观点主旨。在英语作文中适当引用一些谚语或名言,往往也会起到画龙点睛的作用,为文章增光添彩

下面笔者对高考英语常考英文谚语进行简单的归纳总结,希望对2011届考生备考能有所帮助。

1Better late than never. 迟做总比不做好。

2Easier said than done. 说起来容易做起来难。

3Something is better than nothing. 有总比没有好。

4Better safe than sorry. 安全比遗憾好。(事后追悔不如事前稳妥。)

5Two heads are better than one. 三个臭皮匠顶个诸葛亮。

6Actions speak louder than words. 行动比言语更有说服力。(事实胜于雄辩。)

7Health is better than wealth. 健康胜于财富。    

8The sooner begun, the sooner done. 开始越早,完成得越早。

9Honesty is the best policy. 诚实总是上策。

10The best fish are / swim near the bottom.好鱼居水底。(有价值的东西不能轻易得到。)

(注:以上谚语运用了形容词或副词的比较级、最高级。)

11Seeing is believing. 眼见为实。

12Saving is getting. 节约而后有。(节约就是获得。)

13It is no use crying over spilt milk. 覆水难收。(打翻牛奶,哭也没用。)

14A rising tide lifts all boats. 水涨众船高。

15Time lost cannot be recalled. 光阴一去不复返。

16One is never too old to learn. 活到老,学到老。

17It’s never too late to mend. 改过迁善从不嫌晚。(亡羊补牢,未为迟也。)

18To stand still is to move back. 逆水行舟,不进则退。

19To live is to learn, to learn is to better live. 活着为了学习,学习为了更好的活着。

20Live not to eat, but eat to live. 活着不是为了吃饭,吃饭为了活着。

(注:以上谚语运用了非谓语动词。)

21All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. 只工作/学习不玩耍,聪明孩子也变傻。

22Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.

      早起早睡使你健康、富裕、聪明。

23You may take a horse to the water, but you cannot make him drink.

      领马河边易,逼马饮水难。(不要逼人做不愿做的事。)

24Money makes the mare go. 有钱能使鬼推磨。

25An apple a day keeps the doctor away. 多吃水果利健康。(一天一苹果医生远离我。)

(注:以上谚语运用了“make/keep+ O.+ O.C.”结构。)

26All that glitters is not gold. / All is not gold that glitters. 闪光的并非都是金子。

27All that dogs bark at are not thieves. / All are not thieves that dogs bark at.

      狗吠者未必是贼。(勿以貌取人。)

28Every couple is not a pair. / Not every couple is a pair. 成双未必能配对。

(注:以上谚语运用了部分否定结构。)

29It is the early bird that catches the worm. 早出的鸟儿吃到虫。(疾足者先得。)

30It’s a long lane that has no turning.否极泰来。

      路必有弯,事必有变。(没有弯曲的路真长。)/(不顺是暂时,转机定出现。)

31It is love that makes the world go round. 爱使世界更美好。

32It is a good horse that never stumbles, and a good wife that never grumbles.

      良马会失蹄,贤妻有牢骚。

(注:以上谚语运用了强调句型。)

33Never put off till tomorrow. 今日事,今日做。(今日事,今日毕。)

34An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. 以眼还眼,以牙还牙。

35A fall into the pit, a gain in your wit.吃一堑,长一智。

36Once bitten, twice shy. 一朝被蛇咬,十年怕井绳。(一次上当,下次小心。)

37Out of sight, out of mind. 眼不见,心不想。(不见就忘。)/(离久情疏。)

38Waste not, want not. 不浪费,不愁缺。

39No pains, no gains. 不劳无获。

40More hasty, less speed. 欲速则不达。

41Like father, like son.有其父,必有其子。

42Well begun, half done. 好的开始等于成功的一半。

43An idle youth, a needy age. 少壮不努力,老大徒伤悲。

44The older, the wiser. 姜是老的辣。

45As the tree, so the fruit. 种瓜得瓜,种豆得豆。

46The sooner, the better. 越快越好。

47First come, first served. 先到者先受用。(先到先得。)

48Nothing brave, nothing have. 不入虎穴,焉得虎子。

49So said, so done. 说到做到,言出必行。

50Easy come, easy go. 来也匆匆,去也匆匆。

(注:以上谚语运用了省略结构。)

51He laughs best who laughs last. 谁笑在最后,谁笑得最好。

52All’s well that ends well. 结果好就是一切好。

53God helps those who help themselves. 天助自助者。

54Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

         家居玻璃房,切忌乱扔石。(自己有弱点,勿揭他人短。)

55He that corrects not small faults will not control great ones. 小错不纠,大错难控。

(注:以上谚语运用了定语从句。)

56When in Rome do as the Romans do. 入境问俗。(入乡随俗。)

57Strike while the iron is hot. 趁热打铁。

58Where there’s a will, there’s a way. 有志者事竟成。

59Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. 无风不起浪。

60Where there is life, there is hope. 有生命就有希望。(留得青山在,不怕没柴烧。)

61If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again. 再接再厉,终会成功。

62If a thing is worth doing, it’s worth doing well. 凡值得一做的都值得做好。

63Don’t trouble trouble until trouble troubles you. 不要自找麻烦。

64Look before you leap. 三思而后行。

     小鸡孵出前,先别忙点数。(办事尚未果,不把成功言。)/(不要过早乐观。)

66East or west, home is the best. 金窝银窝不如自家草窝。

(注:以上谚语运用了状语从句。)

67A friend in need is a friend indeed. 患难见真情。
68No news is good news. 没有消息就是好消息。

69A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. 双鸟在林不如一鸟在手。

70An hour in the morning is worth two in the evening. 一日之计在于晨。

71It never rains but it pours. 不雨则已,一雨倾盆。(祸不单行。)
