Thanks to Xiao P for sharing the bubbly & nice photos!
Dom Perignon 2006
Disgorged in 2015. Tasted in Apr, 2016
Airy, creamy & delicate on the nose with nuances of pear & lemon, without the aggressiveness of smoke & toast so usually found in a young DP.
The palate is surprisingly soft, round, polished & edgeless for a young DP, so much so that it seems dominated by Chouilly. All too easy to swallow in gulps.
It’s so round & juicy at the moment that it does not fit well with the slightly bitter aftertaste.
As with my earlier experience with Taittinger Comtes Blanc 06, I believe the just released DP 06 is simply drowned in its baby-fat phase -- when you cannot possibly detect any depth or linearity – this is typical of 06 vintage, especially for the Blanc.
Give it at least one year in a proper cellar, and more depth & complexity will hopefully emerge, as Comtes 06 & La Grande Dame 06 have demonstrated.
La Grande Dame 2006
Disgorged in Jan, 2014. Tasted in Apr, 2016
This has clearly benefited from one extra year of post disgorgement ageing than DP 06.
Iodized saline mineral penetrates the seductive fruity aromas of red cherry & citrus.
Creamy, silky texture, with juicy, succulent flavors of lemon, apple & red cherry, and again penetrated & enhanced by iodized salinity. The exquisite & bright finish stands head & shoulders above DP 06.
