严文郁《中国图书馆发展史：自清末至抗战胜利》评述

Review of Yan wenyu’s The History of Libraries in China: from the Late Qing Dynasty to the End of Anti-Japanese War

[摘  要] 严文郁是20世纪中国图书馆史上著名的图书馆学家，是我国“第二代”图书馆人才中的杰出代表。为了使中国近代图书馆发展的史实不被后世所遗忘，同时备留心图书馆史者参考，严文郁广泛搜集资料，益以个人见闻，撰写了《中国图书馆发展史：自清末至抗战胜利》。《中国图书馆发展史：自清末至抗战胜利》具有体例完善、史实真实、叙述严谨的特点，它的出版填补了中国图书馆发展史研究的文献空白，成为中国图书馆史教育领域必读的经典教科书。

[Abstract] Yan wenyu is a famous library scientist in the history of libraries in 20 century China, and is also a outstanding representative among the “second generation” librarians in China. In order to make the later generations remember the truth of the libraries in modern China and to give references to those care the history of Chinese libraries, Yan wenyu collected materials extensively, added his personal experiences, and wrote The History of Libraries in China: from the Late Qing Dynasty to the End of Anti-Japanese War. The book has the characteristics such as the style being perfect, the historical facts being true and the narrations being puritanical. Its publishing filled the gap in the research of libraries development in China, and became the classic textbook which everyone in the education field of library history in China should read.
