[Abstract] Yan wenyu is a famous library scientist in the history of libraries in 20 century China, and is also a outstanding representative among the “second generation” librarians in China. In order to make the later generations remember the truth of the libraries in modern China and to give references to those care the history of Chinese libraries, Yan wenyu collected materials extensively, added his personal experiences, and wrote The History of Libraries in China: from the Late Qing Dynasty to the End of Anti-Japanese War. The book has the characteristics such as the style being perfect, the historical facts being true and the narrations being puritanical. Its publishing filled the gap in the research of libraries development in China, and became the classic textbook which everyone in the education field of library history in China should read.
