感悟新概念英语三     

  尽管亚力山大先生在文章一开始就写到"The quiet life of the country has never appealed to me."（宁静的乡村生活从来就没有吸引过我.）我在讲授Illusions of pastoral peace(宁静田园生活的遐想)这篇文章时仍然不止一次被他所描述乡村的景象所触动。文中以第三人称谈到“He is forever talking about the friendly people，the clean atmosphere，the closeness to nature and the gentle pace of living”（他一直谈论着友好的农民，洁净的空气，贴近大自然的环境和悠闲的生活节奏。）Nothing can be compared，he maintains，with the first cockcrow，the twittering of birds at dawn，the sight of the rising sun glinting on the trees and pastures。（他坚持认为，凌晨雄鸡的第一声啼叫，黎明时分小鸟叽喳欢叫，冉冉升起的朝阳染红树木，牧场，此翻美景无与伦比。）我在讲完这篇文章后问一位正在读高二的学生，“你在课本里读到过这么美的英文文章吗？”她说“没有”。

     除了在先生的文章里读到美不胜收的句子，他的文章还帮助我们概括事理，理清头绪，深刻了我们的思想。“乡村生活和城市生活的对比”这篇命题议论文几乎是所有人在大学英语写作课上都会尝试的一篇文章。我曾经作为大学写作老师第一堂课在给大二的学生讲述如何写议论文时，谈到的话题也是“The advantages and disadvantages of country life and city life”（乡村生活和城市生活的优势与劣势），事到如今，在文中读到过论点无数，却没有一篇能如先生的这篇深刻。

    "City born and city bred,I have always regarded the country as something you look through a train window,or something you  occasionally visit druing the weekend."（我生在城市,长在城市,总认为乡村是透过火车车窗看到的那个样子,或偶尔周末去游玩一下的景象。）很明显，亚历山大先生是更喜欢城市生活的。那就听一听他的论点吧。

    "If you can do without the few pastoral pleasures of the country,you will find the city can provide you the best that life can offer."如果你能舍弃乡下生活的那一点点乐趣的话,那么你会发现城市可以为你提供生活中最美好的东西。"Some of my acquaintances in the country come up to town once or twice a year to visit the theatre as a special treat.For them,this is a major operation which involves considerable planning. As the play draws to its close,they wonder whether they will ever catch the last train home.(我在乡下有一些熟人，他们每年进城来看一回或几回戏，并把这看成是一种特殊的享受。看戏是件大事，需要精心计划。当戏快演完时，他们又为是否能赶上末班火车回家而犯愁。“The city dweller never experiences anxieties of this sort。The lastest exhibitions，films，or plays are only a short bus ride away."城里人从来没有这种体验。坐公共汽车几站路，就可看到最新的展览，电影，戏剧。

    "Shopping,too, is always a pleasure.There are so much variety that you never have to do with the second best.Country people run wild when they go shopping in the city and stagger home loaded with as many of the exotic items as they can carry."买东西也是一种乐趣。物品品种繁多，从来不必用二等品来凑合。乡里人进城采购欣喜若狂，每次回到家都买来了外来商品，直到拿不动才罢休，连走路都摇摇晃晃。

     "Nor is the city without its moments of beauty.There is something comforting about the warm glowshed by advertisements on cold wet winter nights."城市也并非没有良辰美景。寒冷潮湿的冬夜里，广告箱发出的暖光，会给人某种安慰。Few things could be more impressive than the peace that descends on deserted city streets at weekends when the thousands that travel to work every day are tucked away in their homes in the country.周末,当成千上万进城上班的人回到他们的乡间寓所后,空旷的街市笼罩着一种宁静的气氛,没有什么能比此时的宁静更另人难忘的了。

     “It has always been a mystery to me why city dwellers,who appreciate all these things,obstinately pretend that they would perfer to live in the country."城里人对这一切很明白，却偏执地装出他们喜欢住在乡村的样子，这对我来说一直是个谜。

     文章如人,有细致的观察,丰富的阅历,有自己的原则,说出道理,坚持自己的立场是写好一篇议论问的关键!很多人对一切都很明白，但是否能如先生这般说出，写出，就少之又少了。

附文:我喜欢读亚历山大的文章，也只在1997年外院的阶梯教室里见过他一面，听过他一次讲演，就视这个白须白发，神采奕奕的老人为神，从他的文章中我时时刻刻都感到他的渊博，感受他的真诚，他的幽默，常常会边思索边阅读，常常是阅读一遍就有一种不同的心理感受。也许人这一生是需要有一种信仰有一个偶像，有一个特定的目标，这样我们就不会失去奋斗的力量和追求的方向。如今先生已离我们远去，想起这一切，想起他为我们的语言学习所做出的贡献，我不止一次地敬畏敬佩，不止一次的留恋遗憾，我的眼眶也不止一次的潮湿。如果每个人都能把心思放在不断学习，不断充实自我上面，也许大家所谈论的话题又会上升一个高度，我们也将更加自信，睿智，从容。
