Skills of Translation Unit Two
第一:正话反说和反话正说
1、在理解全文的基础上进行反说与正说之间的选择;
2例:
1)Western society(about 1.2 billion people)cannot bring the remaining 5.1 billion
people in less developed countries up to the Western consumptive "standard of living"
without exhausting the earth's resources.
1译:西方社会(大约拥有12亿人口)不可能来带给剩下的51亿的欠发达国家提升到西方的
消费的“生活水平”而不消耗地球的资源。
2译:拥有12亿人口的西方社会要想让剩下的51亿欠发达国家的人口达到西方人的“生活
水平”,就必须要消耗地球的能源。
译文一:西方社会约12亿人口。要让欠发达国家的51亿人口都达到西方消耗型的“生活标
准”,必然会把地球上的资源耗尽。(正说)
译文二:西方社会约有12亿人口。要让欠发达国家的51亿人口都达到西方消耗型的“生活
标准”,不可能不把地球上的资源耗尽。
词汇:consumptive 消耗型的; standard of living 生活质量;exhaust 耗尽;
2)Ecotourism is really nothing more than the application of this philosophy to the
self-enriching discovery made possible through travel.
1译:生态旅游是对于自我充实的哲学的应用通过旅游的方式。
2译:生态旅游是通过旅游的方式来实践自我充实发现的哲学。
3译:如果要想通过旅游的方式来实践自我充实自我发现的哲学,那么通过生态旅游再适
合不过了。
3)But with the world steel industry deep in the doldrums, who needed iron ore
carriers?
1译:现在世界钢铁工业深陷于萧条当中,谁还需要运输铁矿石呢?
译文一:但是世界钢铁工业很不景气,谁还需要这些矿砂船呢?
译文二:但是钢铁工业如此萧条,谁还需要这些矿砂船呢》
词汇:iron ore carrier 矿砂船
二、实践中的正说与反说
(一)英文正说,汉语反说
1) They could accept this suggestion with dignity.
1译:他们可能会庄重的接受这个建议。(正说)
2译:他们可以不失面子的接受这个建议。(反说)
词汇:dignity 庄重的、高贵的——反过来:不失面子的;
2)She failed to perceive the difference.
1译:她没有察觉出有何不同。
2译:她看不到有什么不同的地方。
3)That ancient vase is above price.
1译:这个古代花瓶价值连城
2译:这个古代花瓶是无价之宝。
4)Stop behaving like a fool!
1译:别像个傻子似的!
5)It is beyond his power to preside over such an important meeting.
1译:主持如此重要的会议已经超出了他的能力范围。
2译:他没能力主持如此重要的会议。
(二)英语反说,汉语正说
1)The lion is no less cruel than tiger.
1译:狮子比老虎还残忍。(错误)
2译:狮子和老虎一样残忍。
2)There is nothing in his house but bare walls.
1译:他一无所有。
2译:他家徒四壁。
3)I tired hard not to lose a word of what he said.
1译:他努力试着不使自己说错话。(错误) lose 是”损失,丢失“的意思。
2译:他努力想听清楚讲的一字一句。(正确)
4)No smoking!
1译:禁止吸烟!
5) He came back with no hope on his face.
1译:他失望而归。
2译:他充满绝望的归来的。
(三)汉语正说,英语反说
1)就在这儿等着,我马上就来。
1T:Stay here and wait; I shan't be long.
2)我们走到桥边就停下来。
1T:We went no further than the bridge.
3)他可是非常的勇敢。
1T: He is no coward.
4)我们很快就可以完成任务了。
1T:It will not be long before we finish our job.
5)中国直到20世纪80年代才开放旅游业。
1T:China didn't open its tourism industry until the 1980s.
2T:China didn't open up tourists until the 1980s.
注意:旅游业:tourist 20世纪80年代:the 1980s 要加定冠词
the;
(二)汉语反说,英语正说
1)那列火车很快就不见了。
The train was soon out of sight.
注意:不见了——在视野之外——out of sight;
2)他已经长大,不再需要这些玩具了。
1T:He needn't these toys because he is not a boy.
2T:He has outgrown these toys.
3) 我一时想不起他的名字了。
1T:I suddenly forget his name.
2T:His name slipped from my memory.
4)他的文风丝毫也不矫揉造作。
1T: His style is void of affection.
5)他根本不是当音乐家的料。
1T: His not suit to become to a musician.
2T: He is anything but a musician.
