“I love you new hair style. It looks great!” “You did an outstanding job!” Everyone loves to receive compliments, and many people love to give them, too. You can give compliments to anyone. You may compliment someone on their new apartment, beautiful car or excellent judgment. In any case, a compliment is usually about something new or different.「我喜欢你的新发型,看起来真棒!」

Not everyone is sure how to accept a compliment. Some people feel embarrassed or deny a compliment. In western culture, a simple “thank you” is the best response. People won't think you're proud if you respond gracefully.

After expressing your thanks, you may want to comment on the compliment: Mrs. Dobbs: That's such a beautiful cabinet, Mr. Van! Mr. Van: Thank you. It’s an antique. It’s been in the family for generations.

You may also wish to return the compliment: Mr. Tim: Mrs. Hunt, your house looks just beautiful. Mrs. Hunt: Why, thank you, Mr. Tim. I only wish I had a wonderful flower garden like yours.
