在cnki上无意间看到向梅的一篇论文——《温柔的思念:爱伦·坡的<安娜贝尔·李>唯美性分析》，《安娜贝尔·李》是那时候她给我讲过的一首诗，重看了一遍，还是觉得写得这好。自己翻译了一下，韵味尽失。
It was many and many a year
ago,很久很久以前，
In a kingdom by the
sea,有一个海边的国度；
That a maiden there lived whom you may
know，那里住着一个少女，你可能听所过吧，
By the name of Annabel
Lee;她的名字叫安娜贝尔·李；
And this maiden she lived with no other
thought，这位少女唯一的愿望，
Than to love and be loved by me.便是爱我,与被我所爱。
I was a child and she was a

诗人讲述的是自己和妻子的爱情悲剧,却未直抒胸臆,而是杜撰了安娜贝尔·李这样一个典雅的名字,让他们的爱情发生在幻想的海滨国度,为这段爱情增加了神秘感、古典美及童话色彩。似乎在寓意这样的爱情只能存在于神话般的国度,然而,在童话中,诗人的幻想还是以破灭告终。全诗以一句“那是很多,很多年以前”开行,两个“很多”寓意了时间之悠远,爱意之绵长,勾起人遥远的回忆和无限的遐想,更让人品味到一缕莫名的忧伤。接着诗人又诉说了故事发生的地点,“在临海的一个国度,居住着一位少女,她的名字叫安娜贝尔·李”。遥远的海边,神秘的国度,美丽的少女,令人遐想不已。“这位少女唯一的愿望便是爱我,与被我所爱”。然而,“我们”的爱却遭到了他人的嫉妒。“天上的天使也把她和我妒嫉;夜里一阵风儿从云端吹起,冻着了我的安娜贝尔·李；她那些高贵的亲戚把她从我身边夺去,将她关进一座坟墓。”天上的天使,云端的风儿,高贵的亲戚,这些践踏美好爱情的恶势力的形象也是如此缥缈,远离尘世,营造出了古典的艺术效果。在结尾,诗人依然在倾诉“伴着潮水,我整夜躺在她身旁,我亲爱的,我亲爱的,我的生命和我的新娘,在那海边的坟墓旁,在那坟墓旁的海边”,与开头遥相呼应。开始是少女和浪漫的海边国度,最后却以爱人守候在海边少女的坟墓一幕而结束。通诗用过去式讲述了一段凄美、哀怨的动人故事,也证明了爱伦·坡的诗歌风格浪漫,他追求寻找一种古典的、忧郁的、遥远的美。
“在那海边的坟墓旁，在那坟墓旁的海边。”产生一种回旋往复的美。
中国古典文学中也有很多悼亡诗，相比而言，就很具体，说的都是睹物思人，没有爱情的说法，是一种亲情。但又各有不同。
