4. The next day, a doctor came to see me. He told me that I could die if I didn’t stop taking crack cocaine, so I took his advice and stopped immediately.

    protect…. from     保护……不受、免于

He raised his arm to protect his child from hurt.

 2）take crack cocaine 服用可卡因

  吃药要用 take, 如： take medicine.

  Don’t take too much medicine.

药不要吃的太多。

5. Now I work in a centre for drug addicts, helping others to stop taking drugs.

现在我供职于一家戒毒中心， 帮助其他人戒毒。

1）helping 是现在分词作状语，表伴随

He walked down the hill, singing softly to himself.

2）help sb to do === help sb do

帮助某人做某事情。

can’t help doing  情不自禁地干某事

He can’t help having big ears.

他爱打听别人的事情。
