The Beijing National Stadium , also know as the <Bird Nest> for its architecture ,   is the main venue for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games . 
    The stadium is designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron      collaborated with China A rchitecture Design & Research Group . Its appearance is pure structur . The structural elements mutually support each other and converge into a gird-like formtion --almost like a bird's nest with its interwoven twigs . The spatial effect of the stadium is so novel that it has already become a major tourist attraction in Beijing. 
     The stadium will host the main track and field competitions for the 2008 Summer Olympics ,as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. The stadium is designed to be sustainable
. When the Games are completed , the site will be transformed into a 25,000 capacity athletics stadium. 

     北京国家体育场，因其建筑式样又称〈鸟巢〉，是2008年夏季奥运会的主赛场。 
     体育场的设计由普利兹克建筑奖获得者赫尔佐格和德梅隆与中国建筑设计研究院合作完成。外表完全为框架结构。各结构框架互相支撑，形成网格状--宛若一个由嫩枝交织编成的鸟巢。其新颖的空间效果以使它成为北京的一大主要景点。 
     除了开幕式和闭幕式，2008年夏季奥运会的主要田径比赛也将在这里举行。该场馆设计时注重持久效用，奥运会结束，体育场将被改造为一个能容纳2.5万人的田径比赛场馆。
