 pumped (形容词)极其热情
(adjective) CONTEMPORARY SLANG to be highly enthusiastic; ready for what is about to happen next ( also, "pumped up")
EXAMPLE: When the young salesman saw the company's beautiful new product for the first time at the annual meeting, he was pumped and eager to tell his customers about it right away.
当年轻的销售员在年会上第一次见到公司漂亮的新产品时,他感到非常兴奋,并且迫不及待地想立刻将它介绍给客户。


directive 名词)指令
(noun) An order; a specific instruction authorizing performance of a particular act
EXAMPLE: The corporation's regional vice president received a directive from headquarters authorizing construction of a large new distribution center.
总公司的地区副总裁从总部收到了一项指令,授权他组建一个新的大型分销中心。

wash (名词,俚语)相互抵消
(noun) SLANG any situation in which successes in one area are cancelled by in another similar area; a result of no gain or loss ( usually singular; requires the article"a").
EXAMPLE: Our total annual sales growth last year was a wash because domestic sales of our product increased by about the same amount that we lost in our foreign sales.
去年我们的年销售额的增长被抵消了,因为产品在国内销售额的增长和在国外销售额的减少几乎对等。

to pull the plug on something (词组,非正式用语)中断对某项活动的支持
(phase) INFORMAL to discontinue an activity by stopping support for it ( coming from the act of 'unplugging" an electrical cord)
EXAMPLE: Despite our best advertising efforts, the expensive new product did not sell well, so our company decided to pull the plug on it before we wasted any more time or money.
虽然我们在广告方面做出了最大的努力,那个昂贵的新产品仍然销路不佳,因此我们公司决定不再对该产品提供支持,以免浪费更多的时间或金钱。

opposing viewpoint (词组)与最初看法相左的意见
(phrase) A second opinion that is directly the contrary of the first opinion
EXAMPLE: The business students learned much from listening to the opposing viewpoints expressed by representatives of labor and management during the meetings.
会议期间,商学院的学生从倾听工会代表以及管理层所表达的完全相反的意见中学到了不少东西。
batch (名词)一次生产量
(noun) A group of identical items of a certain type produced by a manufacturer at one particular time
EXAMPLE: Each day our company produced a batch of 10,000 ball bearings which are assigned one special serial number.
我们每天都生产一批数量为一万个的特定批次的滚珠。

glut 名词,俚语)供给过多
(noun,SLANG) Oversupply, a greater availability of something than is useful of desired
EXAMPLE: Cheaper production costs for the new technology led to a glut on the market, and soon prices dropped significantly.
这种新技术生产成本的降低,导致市场供过于求,价格很快便显著下降。

showroom (名词)展室
(noun) A special room where products are displayed for sale
EXAMPLE: There are several luxurious cars in the automobile dealer's showroom.
这家汽车销售商的展室中有几款豪华轿车。

to step up (词组,非正式用语)增加
(phase) INFORMAL to increase
EXAMPLE: Sales for our new product were far stronger than expected so we had to step up production to meet demand.
我们这种新产品的销售比预期好得多。因此,我们增加产量以满足需求。

all-time high/all-time low (词组)空前的高/空前的低
(phrase) The highest or lowest points ever achieved
EXAMPLE: Last year our sales revenues were so good that they reached an all-time high.
去年,我们的销售收入如此之好,真是前所未有的高。
