came true 说梦想变为现实通常用这个词组
came在这里可以看成是联系动词，后面跟形容词意思是：变成…..
例：The door came open. 门开了。
2.The machine was used in a cave near the sea-shore where----it is said--pirates used to hide gold.
it is said：据说。 是一个插入语，用-----号与其他句子分开，起补充说明的作用。去掉它也不会影响整个句子的意思。
例：It is said that the house is haunted. 据说那个房子闹鬼
where 引导的是一个定语从句pirates used to hide gold修饰a cave
used to表示过去常常做某事
3.The pirates would often bury gold in the cave and then fail to collect it.
would do sth : 表示过去的习惯性动作。有总是….的意思。
fail 和 bury 都是跟在助动词would r后面的谓语动词，fail 前面省略了would 是承前省略
fail to do sth.: 没能做某事。
例：My dream failed to come true. 我的梦想没能实现。
It you receive a request like this, you cannot fail to obey it. 假如你收到这样的一个请求你不会不遵守的。
collect 取走，还可表示收取的意思，比如：
collect taxes 收税
4.The leader of the party was examining the soil near the entrance to the cave when the machine showed that there was gold under the ground.
entrance to和when的用法：
例：the entrance to the building 大楼的门口
when：表示在这个时候
例：We played outside till sunset, when it began to rain.
我们在外边一直玩到了天黑，这时下起了雨。
5.In spite of this, many people are confident that 'The Revealer' may reveal something of value fairly soon.
may:可能
fairly 是一个程度副词和quite, rather, pretty, very有什么区别呢？
fairly, quite, rather, pretty, very 这些程度副词翻译成中文都是相当或者是颇的意思，从汉语的释义看它们没有多大的差别，但在英语中程度有差别，它们的词意按上面的排列次序逐渐加强。
例：The bed is fairly soft. 这床还算软。
6.Armed with the new machine, a search party went into the cave hoping to find buried treasure.
Armed with the new machine 是一个分词短语，前面省略了being ，这个短语在句子中做状语，表示一种伴随状况。
由系动词be+形容词或者是由过去分词转化而成的形容词，比如这里的armed,变成分词短语的时候，be 可以省略。比如：
Tired of sleeping on the floor. A young man in Teheran saved up for years to buy a real bed.
Very excited, the party dug a hole two feet deep.在Tired之前同样省略了being
hoping to find buried treasure 现在分词短语在句子中表示伴随状况，做状语。

分词短语可以给一个句子增加表达的容量，同时又能使句子的主要部分显得特别的突出，所以它是一种非常富有生气的表现手段。
这篇课文说明现代科技并不总是可靠的Modern technology is not always reliable 。
