科学价值
天柱山国家地质公园地处扬子、华北板块接合部位,记录了两大板块俯冲、碰撞的演化过程，至少见证了18亿年以来的地质作用历史。
Scientific Value
Tianzu Mountain National Geopark is located at
the junction between the Yangtze plate and the North China plate.
It has recorded the evolutional process of subduction and collision
between the two plates and at least it has witnessed the history of
the geological process for 1.8 billion
years.
这里是全球面积最大、剥露最深、出露最好、超高压矿物和岩石组合最丰富的大别山超高压变质带的关键部位之一，是我国乃至世界重要的高压——超高压变质带研究基地，具有极高的科研和学术价值。
It is one of the key sections of the Dabie mountain ultrahigh
pressure metamorphic zone which is the largest in area, the deepest
in denudation, the best in outcrop and the richest in combination
of the ultrahigh pressure minerals and rocks in the earth. It is an
important base of a great value for scientific and academic
researches on the high & ultrahigh pressure metamorphic zone
both at home and abroad.

全球古新世脊椎动物化石重要产地
天柱山南片潜山盆地红色碎屑沉积岩中，有100多个点共发现了50多个种属的哺乳动物和爬行动物化石，均系古新世中晚期化石，距今约6,000万年，被国际公认为是当今世界上1700多种包括现在的老鼠在内的啮齿类动物起源地之一。
An important fossil origin of vertebrates in the earth in
Paleocene Epoch
A large number of fossils of more than 50 species of Mammalia
and Reptilia(60 Ma) in the mid-late Paleocene Epoch, have been
discovered in the red clastic sedimentary rocks of Qianshan Basin
in over 100 sites in the south of the Tianzhu mountain area, which
is universally acknowledged as one of the original places of
rodents of more than 1,700 species including present mice in the
world
nowadays.

Vegetation resources
约有野生植物1650种，其中珍稀、孑遗植物多种，如水杉、银杏、香果树、大别山五针松、香榧树、金钱松、天女花、天麻、黄连等。
There are approximately 1,650 species of wild plants here, of
which many are rare and precious plants, including Metasequoia
glyptostroboides, Ginkgo biloba, Emmenopterys henryi, Pinus
paruiflora tabiensis, Torreya Grandis,
Pseudoarix eaempferi, Magnolia sieboidii, Gastrodia elata
and Coptis chinensis and so on.

Animal resources
野生动物300多种，其中属国家保护珍稀动物有大鲵、白冠长尾雉、小灵猫、毛冠鹿、金钱豹等。
There are more than 300 species of wild animals here,
of which such rare animals as Megalobatrachus
davidianus, Syrmaticus reevesii, Viverricula indica, Elaphodus
cephalophus and Panthera pardus shall be protected at the
national level.

天柱山地质公园是集国际上首屈一指的超高压变质带的关键部位、花岗岩地貌山岳景观、水文、古生物化石产地于一体的重要遗迹保护区，是一部宏大的地质史书，是进行科学考察与研究的场所，也是观赏、旅游的好景区。
Concluding remarks
Tianzhu Mountain National Geopark is a
protection area of major geological sites, which is a panorama of
the universally acknowledged major position of ultrahigh pressure
metamorphic zone, granite mountain landform, hydrology and the
origin of paleontology fossils. It is recognized as a grand history
book on geology and it is an interesting place for scientific
exploration and research as well as tourism.
