In cooperation with ASP Irvine, is responsible for managing the activities of research & development, contract / OEM providers and technical design functions which design, develop, modify and evaluate products specifically for the Chinese and Asian Pacific Markets.

Key member of the ASP Global Technical Leadership Team.

Collaborates with ASP Irvine and ASP's J&J patent counsel to develop a robust IP strategy for China that protects and builds on our current position.

Leverages ASP Irvine R&D and the MD&D Asia-Pac R&D / Operations / NBD organization capabilities and people.

Ensures compliance with ASP OpCo policies, processes and procedures.

Leads R&D and Regulatory (?) aspects of NPD, product launches and commercialization.

Will gain a strong and effective understanding of R&D and regulatory issues in China, becoming the subject matter expert in ASP OpCo in these areas.

Evaluates final results of research and development projects to assure accomplishment of technical objectives. 

Prepares and presents reports outlining the outcome of technical projects and makes recommendations necessary to achieve desired results.

Will proactively expand ASP OpCo R&D capabilities in China and India

This person must have proven skills and competencies in effective R&D management and will cooperate with other key functional leaders in China to establish the Chinese ASP Business Center. This is an IDP assignment.  The Director, R & D China will supervise managers, professionals and administrative staff as well as outside contractors and OEM suppliers.  

Qualifications:

Requires BS in engineering discipline (MS preferred), and ten or more years product engineering / product development experience in the medical device industry or in a regulated environment.  Five or more years prior supervisory experience required.  Five years of international cooperation or co-development of international products preferred. Chinese language skills preferred.
