S: hello!my audience,welcome to our english express.long time no see,and I miss you so much.

I’m steven.and today it’s a great honor to me to bring my good friend also colleage yoyo here to do express together.let’s welcome yoyo!

Y: 大家好，我是 yoyo

S: as far as I concerned,there are so many movie lovers in our campus.

Y: 的确，新东方俱乐部的英语八，史小妹老师的电影课每次都是人山人海。看来同学们对电影的热情可真是高涨。

S: Exactly.and especially some students learn english by watching oriental english movies,which is ,I think,really a good method.

Y: 看电影学英语的方法固然诱人，可是那些地道的口语说法用法还有欧美的独特文化课都是英语学习者的一大障碍呢！

S: You are correct.and in today’english express we gonna bring our students some useful phrases , sentences and culture about english movie.

S: Welcome back. Hey Angel,I’ve a question,what reasons will make you go into the movie theater?

The stars? The story?or comments about movie?

Y: 那可不一定。

可是有些人去看某部电影的理由可能不是因为听说哪部电影好看，而是她喜欢的某位大明星在里面担纲演出。

S: For these certain people,they will ask: "Who is in it?"rather than "What is the movie about?"

And about stars,we’ll usually use the word”play”.such as "Tom Cruise plays a young Navy pilot in Top Gun."  

Y: 另外 star 这个词非常好用，例如有时候我提到一部电影时，想顺便提一下主演的男女主角的名字，以帮助对方回忆，例如同样是 Top Gun 这部片子，要是我光说 Top Gun，别人可能还想不起来是哪部片子.

S: But if we give a tip"Top Gun starring Tom Cruise was one of the best movies in the 80s."others will remember it soon.but please pay attention to the phrase “starring Tom Cruise”

S: Yoyo, Do you remember the line by Mel Gibson in Braveheart?

Y: 他在剧终前说了一句好像是 Freedom! 之类的话.

S: Yes, that was a good line.
Y: Line 指的就是演员的一句台词，一句好的台词常可以让观众津津乐道、回味无穷。

S: For example a very famous line in Titanic it’s"You jump, I jump."and lines in forest gump”life is like a box of chocolate,you’ll never know what you gonna get”

 

S: Yoyo , Let's go see movies.

Y: 讲到去"看电影"，老美口语的用法相当地多.

S: For instance, see a movie or catch a movie or go to a movie or go to the movies.

All of them express the same meaning.

Y: 另外有时候老美也会用 flick 这个词来代替 movie.

S: Yeah you can say"Do you want to catch a flick with us?" (你想不想跟我们去看电影啊？)

Y: 有很多美国人士很节俭的，听朋友说有一次他跟一群全都是男性的美国友人去看电影，其中就有人说，

S: "Let's get a female friend so we can sneak in food and drinks in her purse." Means we can find a girl so that we can smuggle food and drinks into film.

Y: 这里请大家注意一下，因为美国的电影院是不允许自带食物和饮料的。

S: Talking about movies for a long time, I think we ignore an important part which is oscar award!

Y: 对呀！对于柏林、戛纳、威尼斯这些影展来说，评审电影只要有几位、十几位精英就够了，但奥斯卡可就大大不同。它是由约五千名电影专家用绝对民主的投票办法评选的。入围奥斯卡和获奖对电影的票房有非常大的影响。现在我们就来看看有关电影"票房"的表达以及各大电影节的说法。

S: The box office took in over 100 million in the first two weeks.

Box office is the place where tickets are saled.no matter whether the ticket is football ticket or movie ticket. You can say "I'll see you at the box office." . furthermore Box office can also be refered as “how many people buy the ticket of this movie”.

Y: 是的，box office 也可以用来指电影或球赛的"票房"，也就是卖座的情况。

S: For instance, "Can you believe that? Scary Movie actually did very well at the box office." Be aware!here we use the sentence “a movie did very well”rather than  "The box office is very good." don’t be confused.

S: Who do you think is going to win the Academy Award for Best Actor this year?

Y: 我们注意到很多人看到 Academy Award 时都无法联想到这个词指的就是奥斯卡金像奖，实在是个有趣的现象。因为他们把奥斯卡金像奖都直接翻成了 Oscar Award，但事实上比较常听到的用法应该是 Academy Award 才对，Oscar 其实是那座小金人的名字。但有时候 Oscars (加上 -s) 也可指奥斯卡颁奖典礼 (Academy Award ceremony)。

S: 比方说 "Who do you think is going to win the Academy Award, umm.. I mean, Best Actor at the Oscars this year?"

Y: 当奥斯卡颁奖嘉宾宣布获奖得主的时候，通常说的是："The Oscar goes to…"

Y: 看电影是提高英语能力的一个好办法。经常看电影的人一定会发现有些词使用的并不是我们从书本上学到的意义，常常让我们感到一头雾水。这次我们给大家带来一些这类词汇，希望能给大家帮上一点忙。

S:  The first one is “Hey, Give me five”

Y: 此短语非常流行，经常在大片中出现，是击掌庆贺时用的。
S: 例如：Hey, dude! Give me five!

S:  The secend one is “Get out of here” “Get out of here”

Y: 这个词大家都很熟悉，容易联想到"滚开"的意思，现在很多时候都是"别开玩笑了，别骗人 了"的意思，在片子常可以听到，在美国非常流行。
S:例如：Man：You look very beautiful. (你很漂亮。)
        Girl: Get out of here. (别骗人了。)

S:  The third one    green

Y: 这里不是"绿色"的意思，也不是"生气"的意思。green有时表示"新手，没有经验"。
S: 例如：She's really green. She looks nervous.

Y:  Steven,你喜欢什么类型的电影呢？

S:  I think no certain type is my favorate.if it’s a good movie, I don’t mind whatever the type is.

Y: 那么现在我们来看一些电影类型，爱看电影的人不可错过哦！

 

Y: 就像我们看到一个电影的片名后通常会问，“这部片子是动作片还是文艺片？”类似的问题一样，老美也常问。美国的电影大致上可以分为动作片(action)、科幻片(sci-fi)、喜剧片(comedy)、浪漫喜剧(romantic comedy)、惊悚片 (thriller) 和剧情片 (drama) 。

Y: Action 的范围包括了战争片例如Pearl Harbor (珍珠港)、武打片例如 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (臥虎藏龙)、警匪片 Rush Hours (尖峰时刻) 等等。Sci-fi 的代表则是 Star Wars (星球大战) ，这类片中不是有外星人出现就是有时光机可以作跨时空旅行 (time travel)。Comedy 包括了卡通片如 Shrek (怪物史莱克)，或是一些纯搞笑的片子如 Home Alone (小鬼当家) 和American Pie (美国派) 之流。Romantic comedy 则是结合了浪漫的爱情故事和喜剧，剧情的发展常会让人笑中有泪，著名的片子有 You've Got Mail (电子情书)、 Pretty Woman (漂亮女人)。

Y: 看惊悚片thriller 的话则需要一点勇气，看这种电影时通常男生可以趁机牵牵女生的小手，或是假装保护她把她包在自己的外套里 (其实自己这时候也闭着眼睛)。像是让人吓破胆的 The Sixth Sense(灵异第六感) 就是 thriller 的代表作之一。

Y: 最后来谈谈drama剧情片。像 Titanic, Gone with the Wind 这些经典名片都是属于 drama 的范畴。这类电影通常有很强的戏剧张力和壮观的场面，通常史诗片都是以 drama 的型式来呈现。但注意一部电影可以同时属于好几类，例如成龙所主演的 Rush Hours (尖峰时刻) 就可以同时归类为action 和comedy。
