This   is   Me

   Hi! My name is Zhong Wanting and you can call me Helen. When you hear the name Helen, the first person you think of is probably the famous American writer and educator, Helen Keller. I hope I could become a person as courageous, intelligent and unyielding as Ms Keller. Also, this name has its origin in Greek and Latin, meaning ‘charm’ and ‘torchlight’. This name also bears my dreams and wishes of becoming a spectacular girl and brightening up the lives of others like a shining, warm torch.

   I’m 11 years old now and I’m studying in Class 1, Junior 1 of Guangdong Experimental Middle School. I’m very proud of my school for its glorious history and its fine learning and living conditions.

   I would like to regard myself as optimistic and outgoing. I enjoy making friends and I have a wide circle of acquaintances worldwide.

   I’m a hardworking and responsible girl. Ever since my primary school years, I have been the propaganda monitress in class. All the time, I work diligently, enthusiastically assisting the class to improve. It would be my great pleasure to be of service to my class and my school. I am also warmhearted and helpful, for I love helping my classmates and teachers whenever I could.

   I have a vast range of hobbies, including reading, writing, swimming, traveling, art, music, watching movies, computer science, astronomy, biology and math. Of course, English interests me the most! I can always find great joy in exploring the magnificent world of this language. I love reading English novels and stories, listening to English songs, surfing English websites, writing English articles and chatting in English. These activities can provide me with leisure and happiness and add much color to my life.

   I am special for my age. When you meet me for the first time, you might think I’m a common schoolgirl with that short, black hair, those genial black eyes, that pair of pink-framed glasses and that sweet smile with dimples. Yes, I’m indeed ordinary—talkative and innocent—but  at the same time I’m unusual too. I started learning English systematically at the age of 7 under the instructions of my father. In a cheerful atmosphere, I learned English well quickly. 2 years later, as a 9-year-old student in Grade 4, I passed PETS-2 with high scores. A year later, I passed PETS-4. Last July, I participated in the CCTV 3^rd Annual ‘Star of Outlook’ English Talent Competition. After becoming the champion of the Children’s Group in the Guangdong Provincial Selection Competition, I won the chance to compete in the national final and got the second prize. It was a remarkable experience I would never forget.

   Apart from English, I’m good at many other things. I have won many national and regional prizes in such areas as art, literature and math. There are several trophies too, with titles such as ‘Excellent Student in Guangzhou’ and ‘Excellent Student Cadre in Guangzhou’. I’m an outstanding little reporter of Lingnan Juveniles’ Newspaper. This year, I have the honor to be one of the 100 Star Little Reporters in China. I have published more than 50 articles in many kinds of newspapers and magazines. As an English reporter of the Kids’ Channel of Southern TVS, I have interviewed a renowned US magician Greg Wilson and an eminent British sculptor, Antony Gormley.

  ‘When there’s a will, there’s a way.’ Now, I’m striving hard toward my goal. This is me, Helen, a unique girl!
