 Scorpio 2010 Overview
The Major Trends and Themes

Jupiter expands whatever he touches. He usually spends about 13 months in each zodiac sign. His job is to bring joy, adventure, open-mindedness, advanced education, travel, global perspectives, and a sense that we are all one big happy family and not so very different from each other. Because of his expansive tendencies, he brings “prosperity” and “abundance” to whatever concept he is focused on. If things are good, he brings an abundance of good. If things are bad, he brings an abundance of bad.

As 2010 begins, Jupiter is still in Aquarius and your fourth house until January 18th when he moves into Pisces and your fifth house. Normally, Jupiter spends about 13 months in each zodiac sign, but this year it is a bit different. Jupiter flies through Pisces at mock speed and then moves into Aries and your sixth house on June 6th. Later, he turns around and heads back into Pisces and your fifth house on September 9th. Then on January 22nd, 2011, he moves back into Aries and your sixth house again, where he will remain throughout the first half of 2011.

While in Aquarius, Jupiter focuses on social networking, friendships, group activities, the Internet, and teamwork. Aquarius rules over independence, freedom, eccentricities, and wanting to be seen as both a unique individual and a great team player. “All for one and one for all”, “We are all in this together”, “Together we stand, divided we fall”, and “I am my brother’s keeper” are Aquarian philosophies that Jupiter is working to encourage and embrace. Globally, this has been one of the major themes of 2009.

For Scorpio, this has been happening in your fourth house of real estate, housing matters, roommates, parents, childhood issues, retirement circumstances, and the concepts of “coming home”. Jupiter helps you to focus on achieving a sense of security. He encourages you to buy real estate, put down roots, redecorate, reconnect with your family, and/or to find ways to create a place of safety and sanctuary. Creating a happy and healthy home life has been Jupiter’s main focus in your life over the past year.

In Pisces, Jupiter focuses on kindness, compassion, charity, emotional well-being, spirituality, intuition, empathy, and bringing a sense of “magic” to the world.

For Scorpio, he will still be in your fifth house of personal pleasure, romance, children, pets, playtime activities, creative talents, luxury, and happiness. Jupiter is promoting laughter, fun, romance, playing with pets and children, working on your favorite hobbies and pastimes. This is a lovely time for romance, peaceful vacations, compassion towards little ones, and lovely creative energies for writing, painting, dancing, and other hobbies. Your muse could become quite seductive. Inner peace, tranquility, and emotional well-being are major themes running through your “happiness” sector at this time.

In Aries, Jupiter embraces Aries’ pioneering spirit, enthusiasm, fiery passion, and willingness to compete for the sheer entertainment of it. Unlike Aquarius’ teamwork approach to life, Aries is all about racing to the top and being number one. Aries is generous, boisterous, and charming. The competitive nature is not a selfish or mean energy, but a childlike “last one there’s a rotten egg!” type of playful energy. Jupiter can have great fun bringing more of this optimistic can-do energy into the world.

For Scorpio, it happens in your sixth house of daily work and physical health. You should find that innovation, competition, “me first!” and entrepreneurial adventures are more appealing than usual. You are confident, self-motivated, and ready to tackle all kinds of professional obstacles. Climbing up the Ladder of Success is more exhilarating at this time. You could also find that athletics and fitness challenges are more motivating than usual, so you might be in the mood to set impressive physical goals for yourself and to then work hard to achieve them. Along with more clients, more productivity, more achievements, and more excitement in your professional life. Jupiter could also bring more weight gain. You have the planet of expansion in the house of physical health, so be mindful. Use that Aries Jupiter energy to promote athleticism rather than gluttony. However, be careful not to go overboard and create physical injuries by becoming too hard on yourself physically. Moderation is key even when Jupiter is calling for “more, more, more.”

When Jupiter backtracks and revisits Pisces and your fifth house, you could find that he is again encouraging you to slow down, spend some time relaxing, meditating, and enjoying loved ones. He could also bring back that creative energy or a desire to become more spiritual and centered. With the whirlwind energy of Jupiter in sixth house Aries, you could find that the peace and “sanctuary” energy of Jupiter in fifth house Pisces provides a lovely mental health break to gather your thoughts and replenish your spirit before diving back into one of the luckiest and fast paced professional energies that you can experience.

Saturn creates our personal challenges and “tough love” learning experiences. He usually spends about two and a half years in each zodiac sign. His job is to create learning experiences that are often uncomfortable but ultimately quite meaningful. Saturn also rules over karma, cause and effect, ethics, and our sense of civic duty. Therefore, it is not only important that we learn our life lessons well, but that we also conduct ourselves with honor and integrity while going through these challenges. If we stay out of trouble, behave ethically, buckle down, and learn our lessons well, then Saturn rewards us with a gift just before he leaves that zodiac sign. For example, if Saturn were traveling through the area of our charts that deals with professionalism, leadership, and success, then he would teach us some tough lessons about those concepts. Then, if we learned our lessons and we behaved ourselves while doing so, Saturn would reward us with a job promotion, professional kudos, public recognition, etc. We would be better at our jobs, better at leading our companies and communities, and/or we would be better at marketing and advertising ourselves. If on the other hand, we did not learn our lessons, or we were unethical, blamed others for our problems, cheated, lied, etc then Saturn would simply move on to the next zodiac sign and we would have nothing to show for all the drama and trouble that we had just endured. Saturn gets a bad reputation because many people think he is simply mean for the heck of it, when in actuality, he is like a “tough love” parent forcing us to grow up and act like a responsible adult. Might not be very fun, but the rewards are well worth it.

As 2010 begins, Saturn is still making a preview visit in Libra and your twelfth house. He will backtrack and revisit Virgo and your eleventh house from April 8th until July 20th. During that time, he will make sure that you learned the life lessons you were taught over the last couple of years. Then he will return to Libra and your twelfth house where he will remain until October of 2012.

While in Virgo over the last couple of years, Saturn focused on our ability to feel like useful members of society. Virgo rules over daily work tasks, to-do lists, coworkers, productivity levels, organizational skills, tools, and our physical health because if you are not physically able to do your fair share of the work, then you are not able to feel useful and productive. The idea is that we are contributing something to society and not just lazing around picking daisies and playing Frisbee. As lovely as eternal vacation might seem, at some point in our development, we all get bored of constant playtime and need something important to do. “Did my life matter? Did I contribute anything meaningful to the world? What is my legacy, if any?”

For Scorpio, this happens in your eleventh house of friends, teams, clubs, committees, professional associations, group activities, networking, interconnectivity, science, “all for one and one for all”, brotherhood as a philosophy rather than a family obligation, and the Internet. Your ability to be a good team player, a productive member of groups and committees, and/or your ability to see how things fit together to create something bigger than the sum of their parts could have been tested. You could also have found the Internet quite challenging, especially if it is part of your professional or social life. Friends, teammates, and colleagues could have become quite judgmental, or you could have found yourself being judgmental towards them. You could also have gone through a time where you felt that you had no friends and that despite the fact that you are actually a very charming, smart, and loyal person… that nobody really wanted to socialize with you. However Saturn decided to challenge your social networking sector, the lessons were meant to teach you how to be a better friend, teammate, and group member. You could also have learned a great deal about what does and does not work with Internet marketing, social networking programs, web hosting, and other Internet based concepts. When Saturn backtracks into this area, it is to double check that you indeed learned your lessons well and/or to bring old friends, colleagues, teammates, etc back into your life.

While in Libra, Saturn focuses on our partnerships. As you know, Libra rules over marriage, best friends, business partnerships, and competitors (think yin-yang). While in this zodiac sign, Saturn forces us all to look at who we choose to partner with, what kind of partnerships we like, and how we behave within our partnerships. It is not uncommon for marriages to suffer, best friends to “break up”, and for business partnerships to dissolve. Competitors can become vicious, especially if they are pointing out real flaws in our character and not just making stuff up. Libra rules diplomacy, fairness, justice, and mediation too. Globally, we could see these topics becoming quite challenging for all countries. Various government leaders will be challenged to pick carefully which countries they choose to partner with and which they choose to keep as enemies. They would do well to remember Saturn’s focus on karma, integrity, and civic responsibility.

For Scorpio, hosting Saturn in your twelfth house of mental health, spiritual mysteries, secrets, bureaucracies, and hidden forces that work behind the scenes could be very painful. Whenever Saturn travels through someone’s twelfth house, there is an increased chance for depression and dark brooding. Part of this is because Saturn forces us to face the reality of our attitudes, our self-defeating behaviors, our addictions, skeletons in our closets, self-destructiveness, and how sometimes life just is not fair. Bureaucracies, red tape, stupid policies, and such can cause us all kinds of problems and it is very difficult to create smart simple solutions to these problems. Life lessons involving these topics can feel hopeless and as if there is no point in even trying to overcome them. It is not unusual for people with Saturn in the twelfth house to become suicidal or to at least withdraw from “reality” as best they can. The desire to avoid feeling bad is a very powerful motivator in all of us, so it is not surprising that suicide, drugs, alcohol, and other escapist tendencies become more appealing. Hopefully, Jupiter’s travels through your “happiness” sector will bring balance to the situation so that you are not overly gloomy and depressed.

Uranus is the eccentric genius, rebellious teenager, and social networking guru of the zodiac. He usually spends about 7 years in each zodiac sign. He rules over friends, teams, clubs, committees, professional associations, networking, science (interconnectivity), electricity, and the Internet. He can bring teamwork, friendships, networking, and a sense of belonging to something bigger than yourself into your life. He can also bring stubbornness, eccentricity, rebellion, and perversity. This is because at his core, he is trying to convince us to be our unique individual selves but also to be a great team player. Thus, like a teenager, he is trying to find himself while being very susceptible to peer pressure. Those who master Uranus’ teachings often make charming and charismatic leaders. Uranus also encourages us to think outside the box and brings a certain eclectic brilliance into our lives. Like the eccentric genius and the rebellious teenager, he brings pleasant surprises and unexpected chaos. Uranus promotes humanitarian ideals like brotherhood, “all for one and one for all”, and “united we stand, divided we fall.” He is not asking us to be sheeple, following the crowd mentality with blind faith. He is asking us to know our unique gifts and to be strong enough in our self-knowledge to be able to work well in a team and to be able to socialize without losing our sense of individuality.

As 2010 begins, Uranus is still in Pisces and your fifth house. He will stay in this area of your chart most of the year, but will be visiting Aries and your sixth house from May 28th through August 13th. Then he moves back into Pisces and your fifth house until he makes a more permanent move into Aries and your sixth house in March 2011.
