东莞才情中译英作品选（3）

      题记：最近几年东莞市特别重视本土文化的挖掘、收集、整理和发扬，并陆续把整理出来的文化成果制作成光盘，配上英文翻译，有的文化成果还成功申请，并获得了省级和国家级的非物质文化遗产项目的荣誉。

    我有幸受到了东莞市文化局的邀请，负责把这些成果的文字翻译成英文。作为东莞市民的一员，我很乐意与大家分享东莞独特的本土文化。谢谢大家多了解东莞的本土文化。

Commentary for ShaTian

 第二篇章 （下）

Chapter 2 ( Second Part )

早期的沙田，由无数饱受风浪，以大海为家的疍家渔民群聚而成。加上1951年的围海造田，造就了沙田人民集捕鱼、下钓、养殖、种植于一体的生活方式。其独特的地理位置，生活背景，赋予了咸水歌独特的歌谣文化。蛋家渔民在茫茫大海之中，凭借歌声找到他们生命的信仰；蛋家农民在密布苍翠的蕉林中，找到其生活的依托。

The early ShaTian was first inhabited by countless wave-beaten DanJia fishermen who gathered together and looked upon the sea as their hometown. What is more, ShaTian reclaimed some land from the sea in 1951. All these factors have helped to develop a life style that mixes fishing, angling, breeding and growing together. Its unparalleled location and living background have contributed to the forming of the unique folk song culture of Salty Water Songs. Over the vast sea, DanJia fishermen have discovered their life’s belief by singing their songs; in the green and thick banana trees, DanJia farmers have found their life’s support.

咸水歌在演唱场合和内容上大致可分为两种，一种为“歌堂歌”又称为“坐堂歌”，另一种则为“大板歌”。歌堂歌一般在婚礼酒席中或者宴会喜庆场合演唱，大板歌则为日常工作，休息间的娱乐之作，每句的末尾常加入“姑呀妹”等诙谐的点缀。

On the whole, Salty Water Songs fall into two categories in terms of the singing occasions and their contents. One is “Singing Room Songs”, also called “Sitting Room Songs”; the other is “Plank Songs”. Singing Room Songs are generally sung at wedding banquets or on celebration occasions; while Plank Songs are recreational works for the daily routines and rest time, often with humorously ornamental expressions such as “wow, aunt and sister” at the end of each line of the songs.

其中大板歌的应用最为广泛，也是变化最多的。随着演唱着的心情、演唱环境，演唱的内容，咸水歌都有不同的表现形式。不同的人，也有着不同演唱风格，有人喜欢欢快节奏，有人喜欢悠长节奏。在基本的曲调上，蛋家渔民可以随意的加入拉音、震音、叹音、哼音、谐音等等。演唱的好坏，与其喉音、节奏的把握、对于拉音，震音等细节的控制等有关。能歌者，其歌声婉转悠远，极其动人。

Of the two categories, Plank Songs are in the most frequent use and with the maximum changes as well. Salty Water Songs vary with the singer’s mood, the singing surrounding and the singing contents. Different singer has his own different singing style. Some like cheerful rhythms, while others prefer long ones. On the basis of the key tunes, DanJia fishermen can feel free to make some changes for their singing, such as prolonging, vibrating, sighing, humming, and with partials. Whether the singing is successful or not depends on the detailed control of the prolonging and vibrating of their singing as well as the singer’s grasp over his glottis and rhythm. For those who are good at singing, their songs sound sweet, moving and can be heard in the distance. 

傍晚时分，茅房下，妻子做饭、女儿拿柴。《女子自叹》体现了蛋家妇女的辛劳。

At dusk, in the thatched cottage, the wife is cooking while her daughter is holding a piece of firewood in her hand. “A Woman’s Sigh” displays a DanJia woman’s toil.

田间，未婚妻子带着期盼和憧憬探望从未见面的丈夫阿旋。蛋民婚嫁，由父母而定。《膊头担伞》记载这懵懂爱情的酸涩与甜蜜。

In the field, a fiancée is looking forward to, with much expectation and beautiful dreams, meeting her fiancé A Xuan whom she has never met before. DanJia’s parents have the final say in their children’s marriages. “An Umbrella over the Shoulder” records the pains and happiness of love.

茫茫的大海中，蛋民的生命在风浪的面前是何其脆弱，朝不保夕，妻儿每天都在担惊受怕中度过，《大海驶船歌》充分表现了妻子出海等候的焦急心情。

Before the waves over the vast sea, DanJia fishermen’s lives are so fragile and precarious that their wives pass every single day in fear. “A Boat Song At Sea” fully expresses the anxiety of the wives waiting by the seashore.

咸水歌是美丽的，它承载着蛋家渔民淳朴动人的爱情，它传承着风雨飘摇的蛋民那一缕缕生活的温馨。

Salty Water Songs, beautiful songs, not only carry DanJia fishermen’s simple and moving love, but also record every moment of the warm life of the fishermen who brave the storm.

第三篇章

Chapter 3

    但经过了漫长的年代，随着时代的变迁，社会的发展以及当代文化思潮的影响，到了现在，美丽的咸水歌声已逐渐被新潮的音乐所替代，日趋落寞。曾经繁华一时,如歌者之国的沙田，也阻挡不了时代的洪流。现除了先锋、立沙岛几条村还有一些老者在唱咸水歌外，其他的村都已经鲜有人传唱了。

   Silently, a great number of years has passed. Up to now, with the changes of the times, the development of societies and the effect of the modern thoughts, beautiful Salty Water Songs have given way to modern fashionable music and attracted fewer and fewer fans day by day. ShaTian, used to be prosperous and the Kingdom of singers, cannot stop the trend of the times. Except that there are still some elders who sing the Salty Water Songs in several villages, such as XianFeng and LiShangDao, seldom can they be heard in other villages.

                         第四篇章

Chapter 4

为了更好地保护好沙田现有的文化遗产，沙田政府高度重视这项工作，不仅收集了许多疍家服饰、咸水歌谱，并且将蛋家风采搬上了舞台，让广大沙田人民了解蛋家文化，了解咸水歌曲。期间还积极组织、鼓励各乡镇的咸水歌开展各种活动和演出交流，让咸水歌有展示的机会，达到广泛流传的作用。现在，部分咸水歌承转者已经把技艺传授给了青少年儿童。那清朗嘹亮、婉转悠扬的咸水歌声，即将响彻历史的天空，在狮子洋畔苍茫的大海上萦绕。沙田咸水歌在经过了半个世纪的沉寂后，又重新回到了人们的视野。她苍老的枝干，在丰饶的文化沃野下，又绽发了新芽。

In order to have the existing cultural heritage better preserved, ShaTian government has taken powerful measures. A lot of effective work, including having the natural elegance of DanJia’s people shown on stage as well as collecting a great many typical DanJia’s clothes and ornaments, has been done so that the great masses in ShaTian can have a better understanding of DanJia’s culture and their Salty Water Songs. Meanwhile, different activities, performances and exchanges of Salty Water Songs have been encouragingly organized and carried out among the villages and towns so that these songs can have a chance to manifest themselves and spread far and wide. At present, some inheritors of Salty Water Songs have passed on their skills to the teenagers. The clear, loud, sweet and long Salty Water Songs will resound through the skies of history and linger over the vast sea by the shore of ShiZiYang. After half a century’s silence, ShaTian’s Salty Water Songs came again in sight. In the fertile fields of culture, you can see, clearly and happily, the tender leaves growing once again on the old branches of Salty Water Songs.
