Clinton warns on Pakistan threat 希拉里就巴基斯坦恐怖威胁作出警告

The US secretary of state（国务卿） has said that a militant attack（军事袭击） on Pakistan's army HQ（headquater，总部） is evidence of an increasing threat against the authority （政府当局）of the state. 美国国务卿希拉里表示，在巴基斯坦美军总部发生的军事袭击，显示巴当局正面临日益严重的威胁。

Speaking in London, Hillary Clinton said that despite the attack, the US remained confident about Pakistan's control over its nuclear weapons. 对核武器的控制

The attack, which began on Saturday and turned into a siege（围困局面，指袭击者占据某处形成对峙）, ended hours ago after hostages were released. （人质被解救）

Correspondents（通讯员，记者） say the attack is highly embarrassing for Pakistan's leaders.（BBC）通讯员称，此次袭击令巴领导人颇为尴尬。（注意副词使用：highly embarrassing）

"Yesterday was another reminder（本文中可理解为“警告”） that extremists（极端主义者） ... are increasingly threatening the authority of the state（正对当局形成越来越大的威胁）, but we see no evidence（没有迹象显示） they are going to take over the state（夺取政权，接管政府）," Mrs Clinton said. “昨天（的事件）是极端主义者正对当局形成越来越大威胁的又一警告。但没有迹象显示极端主义者可能夺取政权。”

"We have confidence in 对。。。有信心the Pakistani government and military's control over its nuclear weapons," she added.

UK Foreign Secretary（外交部长） David Miliband said Pakistan faced a "mortal threat", but there was no risk of its nuclear weapons falling into terrorist hands. 英国外交部长David Miliband表示，巴基斯坦面临“致命威胁”，但不会有核武器落入恐怖分子手中的危险。

The two officials（官员） also stressed other shared aspects of foreign policy: 两位官员同时强调了其他共同关心的外交政策：

∙ Mrs Clinton warned that the international community（国际社会） would not wait "indefinitely"（无限期地） for Tehran（德黑兰，此处指伊朗当局） to meet its obligations on（履行在。。。方面的义务） its nuclear programme（核活动）, while Mr Miliband said Iran would never have a better opportunity to establish normal ties with the rest of the world 希拉里警告说，国际社会不会“无限期的”等待伊朗当局履行其核活动方面的义务，Miliband也表示伊朗今后不会再有这么好的机会与国际社会建立正常关系。

∙ The US secretary of state said Washington was committed to（致力于） implementation（政策或方案的落实） of the Good Friday Agreement（《北爱和平协议》，签约当天为Good Friday，即“耶稣受难节”，故名） in Northern Ireland（北爱尔兰自治区） and a "lasting peace that brings the benefits of peace to the people". She said Republican（美国共和党人，共和党的） dissidents（持不同政见者） were "out of step"（拖后腿，步调不一致，不配合工作） with the peace process。希拉里表示，美国政府正致力于落实《北爱和平协议》和带来“有利于人民的持久和平”。她指出，美国的共和党反对人士在和平进程上没有配合政府。

∙ Mrs Clinton said that their joint resolve（决心） in the fight against the Taliban（塔利班） was "strong and clear", and that they were determined to（坚定地做某事） work with the new Afghan government 希拉里称，英美两国共同打击塔利班的决心是“坚定而明确”的，且英美两国将坚定地协助阿富汗新政府展开工作。
