多伦多市政厅是加拿大著名的建筑之一。它位于多伦多市中心，由芬兰建筑师威里欧若威尔设计，于1965年建成。

    （The new city hall of Toronto is one of the most famous structures in Canada. It is located at the centre of the city. The city hall was designed by Finland architect Viljo Revell and was built in 1965.）

    它和设计新颖而独特，两个新月形的大楼环抱着一个蘑菇形的会议厅。东边的大楼有27层，西边的大楼20层，会议厅两层。从天空俯瞰，整个的市政厅就像一只眼睛，因此，人们称它为“天眼”。

    （Its design is very novel and unique. Two crescent buildings surround a mushroom-shaped meeting hall. The east building has 27 floors. The west building has 20 floors. The meeting hall has 2 floors. If you look down from the sky, the city hall looks like an eye. Therefore, it is called “The Sky Eye”.）

  市政厅免费对外开放，每天有许多当地的居民和世界各地的游客到这里参观游览。 

 （Visiting the city hall is free. Many local residents and sightseers from all over the world come to Toronto to visit it.）

  我们是在2006年10月10日参观高政厅的。有一些政府的工作人员在会议厅的一楼办公. 办公室设计为开放式的。居民可以直接与办公人员对话。 

  （We visited the city hall on Oct/ 10/ 2006.  Some of the government officers work on the first floor of the meeting hall. All offices are designed with open concept there. Residents can talk with the clerks directly across the desk or counter.）

    会议厅的一楼有一个多伦多市的有模型，墻上有许多艺术品。其中有两个艺术品给我留下了深刻地印象，一个是由许多不同颜色的小布块拼成的巨幅布贴画，这个画花了6年的时间才完成。这件作品包含三个部分，中间的部分表现人类从古到今的发展，其余两部分展现多伦多的景色。

     （There is a big model of Toronto in the hall. Also there are many artworks on the wall. Two pieces of them impressed of small cloth and it took the artist 6 years to finish it. This artwork contains three parts. The middle part describes the evolvement of human from ancient time. The other two parts on the sides describe Toronto’s scene.）

 

   另外一个作品是由100,000个钉子组成的巨幅画。这是一件表现城市景象的抽象派的作品。整个作品由9部分组成，每一部分重达180公斤。作品命名为“（neighbourhoods）"，艺术家David Partridge设计。有一个有趣的现象，就是如果你从该画的顶部的钉子之间放一枚硬币,那么当这枚硬币在钉子之间穿行下落的时候，你会听到一种悦耳的声音。

   （The other artwork is made of one hundred thousand steel nails on the wall. It is an artwork of abstractionism, showing the city’s various neighbourhoods. There are 9 frames in this picture. Each frame weighs 180 kilogram.  This picture is named “Metropolis” and it was designed by artist David Partridge. If you place a coin from its top, the coin will drop down intervals between nails, and you will hear a sweet song.）

市政策厅前面的广场称做Nathan Philips Square.广场上游客在拍照留影，孩子们在游玩，还有些游客坐在椅子上晒太阳。广场的右边有一桌子，称做 " Speakers' coner"。

   (The square in front of the city hall is called Nathan Philips Square. On this square, there were some tourists taking pictures, children playing, and some people just sitting on the benches to enjoy sunshine.  A free speaker’s table stands on the right side of the square.)

   This speakers’ corner is dedicated by the city council of Toronto to the concept of free speech. The public may mount the dais and speak, or challenge another speaker to debate.

  Speakers may not use the dais for any purpose that is contrary to law, and are reminded that the Canadian criminal code prohibits slanderous statements or statement promoting genocide or hatred against an identifiable group or race.

  When speaking from the dais, the speaker assumes all risks. the city does not assume and shall not be liable for any damages or action resulting there from.
