Unit3 Organizational Culture and the Environment: The constraints

A Manager s Dilemma

Its unusual to find on organization that has essentially no employee turnover. But thats the case at Athleteta Corporation. The sports apparel company ,based in Petaluma ,California ,has employee turnover of less than 1percent a year .Meanwhile ,employee productivity keeps increasing .To CEO Scott Kerslake , employee retention is a daily priority .He goes out of his way to make sure his 60 employees put their personal lives ahead of their jobs.

Athleta's employees are a diverse team.They come in  all shapes and sizes with varying attitudes and abilities.They include soccer players,runners,cyclists,surfers,skiers,hikers,snowboarders.Also,the empiolees have opinions and aren't afraid to share them with each other and with the company's managers.Despite their differences.They all share a fundamental passion--ti offer active woman the best products and advice on the planet through their catalog and online shore.That passion for health, fitness, and life characterizes athletas employees, who also enjoy their fun, fast-paced, and semi chaotic workplace. The companys unique work environment is about enjoying what they do and offering support to each an every team member. And that extends to the cannie members of the athleta team. Sam , Hazel , Mac , Jack , Pete , Abby , Hanna , Stella , The Salad , and Bear are excellent running companions and are ready at a moments notice to help their humans reduce stress by wrestling or fetching thrown objects.

Scotts approach to keeping his employees committed is simplecultivate a culture of trust that allows them to set their own schedules and handle personal matters during the workday. Employees who need to attend to family problems or who have personal appointments know that they can take care of those things and not get in trouble. They know theyre trusted to make up the time. Also, employees are crosstrained in each others work areas and fill in for one another as needed.

Now, put yourself in Scotts position. As his company continues to grow and add employees, how can he maintain the employee-friendly culture hes created?

Scott 保持他的员工的忠诚的方法很简单-培养一种允许员工在工作日制定他们自己的日程安排和掌控处理个人问题的信人文化。那些需要出力照顾家庭问题或者有私人约会的员工知道他们可以照顾那些事情而不陷于困境中,并且员工工作互相渗透并且在需要是互相替代。
