resistance  n.⑴[u]resistance to sth.\sb.抵抗，对抗
eg:put up (a) passive resistance 进行消极抵抗
              ⑵[u]resistance to sth. 起阻碍或阻止作用的力量；阻力

imitation  n. ⑴[c]仿制品；仿造品；赝品
                eg:That’s not an original Rembrandt,it’s an imitation.

                 作定语：imitation leather,jewellery,etc. 人造革，假珠宝
                     ie material made to look like leather,jewellery,etc.
              ⑵[u]仿，效  eg:learn sth. by imitation 通过模仿学习某事物
                              The house was built in imitation of a Roman villa.
这所房子是仿罗马别墅式的建筑
              ⑶[c]扮演或模仿某人的言谈举止
                eg:an entertainer who does hilarious imitations of politicians’ voice.
                   专门学政治家讲话作滑稽模拟表演的演员

with  the  result  that… 其结果是（后面跟从句）
as  a  result  作为结果，因此
作状语，用在第二句的开头，表示作为前一句所说情况的结果，就发生了第二句所谈的情况
eg:He slipped and broke his leg.
As a result,he will have to be away from school for two or three months.
in  consequence 因此，结果（作状语，放在第二句的开头，用法与as a result相同）

tough  adj. ⑴坚韧的；不易切开、打破或磨损的
eg:Tough glass is needed for windscreens. 挡风玻璃需要用不易碎的玻璃
             a tough pair of walking boots 一双结实的步行靴
        ⑵能耐劳苦的；不易击败的；不易伤害的
              eg:You need to be tough to survive in the jungle.
要在丛林中活下来就要有坚韧不拔的意志
            ⑶凶恶的，粗暴的
            ⑷（贬）（指肉）切不动的，咬不动的，硬的，老的
            ⑸严厉的、不屈的、强硬的
              eg:tough measures to deal with terrorism 对付恐怖主义的严厉措施
                 take a tough tine with offenders 对犯罪分子采取强硬方针
            ⑹困难的 eg:It’s tough finding a job these days. 近来找到工作很困难
            ⑺tough on sb. 不幸的，倒霉的
              eg:It’s rather tough on him falling ill just as he’s about to go on holiday.

            ⑻（idm.习语）be\get tough (with sb.) 采取坚决态度；采用强硬手段

chance 和opportunity
⑴当表示有机会做某事时，这两个词的用法相同，后面可接to do 或of doing
eg:I had chance (或opportunity of visiting Beijing.我曾有机会参观北京。
I had no chance to\opportunity to see him.我没有机会见到他。
take a\the chance\chances 碰碰运气，冒冒风险（也许不会）
⑵chance 后面可跟从句，opportunity 则不能
eg:There’s a chance that he will succeed.他有可能成功
have\give\take\seize an opportunity for sth.\of –ing\to –v

notice  n.[u]注意；察觉；[c]（关于离职或解雇的）提前通知；布告（以事物作主语）
    catch\attract\bring to sb’s notice 引起某人的注意
