You are what you read!
I wasted 30 years of imagination. I wasted 30 years of creativity.
I wasted 30 years of life. For 30 years I wasted my life away
watching movies and TV thinking somehow I could absorb all the
information provided through the tube. With the lack of exercising
my brain I had lost control over all aspects of my life. Searching
for an answer I did as so many have done before, I looked for the
answers in books. It was Ironic as the book I first found was
“Awaken the giant within” by Anthony Robbins, this book not only
changed my life for the better, it also made me realize you really
are what you read!
Find “MY” type of books. If you are already an avid reader than you
may want to skip this paragraph, but if you aren’t then you need to
focus as what I’m about to tell you cause it will change your life
forever. I’m sure you have always heard of people saying they just
couldn’t put the book down, the first page turned in to 10 pages,
10 into 20 pages and then continuing on to 100 pages. You also
probably won’t relate to the feeling of being so into a book you
didn’t want to do anything but finish it as quickly as possible
cause you were craving page after page. For 30 years I couldn’t
relate to this either, I assumed it was just geeks and bookworms
with too much time on their hands whom could understand. That is
until I found “MY” type of books. When I say “my” type of books I’m
referring to the type of books in which you are truly interested in
reading. The main reason I never had the feeling of “not being able
to put the book down” was because I was reading the type of books I
wasn’t truly interested in! You need to keep reading different
styles of books until one day you really won’t be able to put the
book down. Go to a bookstore now and start reading all types of
books you are interested in until you find the one which will
“awaken the giant within!”
Your brain needs exercise. You not only need to take care of your
body physically but also need to take care of yourself mentally as
well. Our brains are our biggest and most important muscle, if you
don’t exercise it regularly it will become soft and unusable. For
this reason it is a great Idea to read for at least 30-60 minutes
per day. When I say reading, it means actual books, flipping
through magazines or surfing online articles doesn’t count.
Magazines are paid for advertising and on-line articles are 90%
false information and poorly written, reading low level material
will not suffice. You will notice reading day after day your brain
will become stronger, crave reading, and be able to think clearer
and concentrate longer.
Read by your rules! Page one till the end, left to right, sound
familiar? Since elementary school we have been trained to follow
the rules in every aspect of learning, so what I’m going to tell
you to do might be uncomfortable. When you read, read in any order,
any way you want! You have my permission to not read the forward,
not read the introduction, skip chapter 3, read chapter 5, and then
return to chapter 2 and so on. My point being is reading has no
rules, read what you would like to in any order and sequence you
like. Never feel guilty by jumping from book to book, taking a
break from a book, or not finishing a book, no need to be
“guilted”into finishing a book you really aren’t into or just
didn’t turn out the way you thought it would. Read any way you
would like!
You are what you read. Graduating university with a major in
Sociology I understand how our environment affects us, minoring in
Psychology I understand how we process everything we experience,
and wasting 30 years of my life not reading and the years after
starting reading, I can assure you are what you read! It’s simple
concept, if you read 100 books in a related field you
Will become a professional in that area, if you read 0 books in any
related field, you will become a professional in zero. You can
become anyone you want to be, you can enter any profession you want
and remember, you are what you read!
