UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS,
Ohio - Maybe Cleveland Cavaliers fans can hope for cheap gas if an
oil company insults All-Star LeBron James.
Lines were so long Thursday at some of the 86 Papa John's stores
offering a large, one-topping pizza for 23 cents that police stood
nearby to make sure people didn't get unruly.
The Louisville, Ky.-based company agreed to the offer after a
franchisee in Washington, D.C., made T-shirts calling star LeBron
James a "crybaby." The shirts referred to James' complaints about
hard fouls during a playoff series victory over Washington. The
company also will donate $10,000 to the Cavaliers Youth Fund.
The 23-cent price of a pizza is a homage to James' jersey
number.
There were a few headaches, mostly complaints about long waits and
line-cutting.
Each Papa John's location offering the deal in the Cleveland,
Columbus, Toledo and Youngstown areas was prepared to sell more
than 900 pies. Outlets were ordered to close early if, as expected,
they ran out of pizzas.
Randall Hunter, 50, from Cleveland Heights, spent most of his
four-hour split between bus driving shifts waiting for his
pepperoni pizza. He defended James and what he said were flagrant
fouls he received in the Washington series.
Patrick Mone, dressed in a blue Lebron James "Witness" T-shirt, was
willing to wait as long as necessary for the bargain.
"It's worth it," he said. "All the money is going to charity, and
obviously, it's bringing new business to Papa John's. Even though
there is a line, I think it's pretty cool ... 23 cents, you can't
beat it."
LONDON (Reuters
Life!) - A British company developing a non-stick chewing gum that
can be easily removed from pavements and shoes has raised 10
million pounds to help bring its product to market.
The new financing comes from institutional and private investors,
with IP Group -- an early backer -- chipping in an additional
800,000 pounds, the firm said on Wednesday.
Revolymer's new Clean Gum is the result of polymer research at the
University of Bristol, where the company was created as a research
spin-out in 2005.
Today's chewing gums are made from synthetic latex, which is
resistant to the weather and is strongly adhesive. Clean Gum adds a
special polymer to modify its properties, making it far less
sticky.

BERNE, Switzerland
(Reuters) - The Swiss government has agreed to ease restrictions on
the importation of potatoes following fears that Euro 2008 soccer
fans could face a shortage of French fries next month.
A spokesman for the country's department of agriculture told
national radio on Wednesday that the government would allow an
additional 5,000 tonnes of potatoes to be brought in.
The decision follows a request by Swiss potato industry association
Swisspatat who warned that supplies were already running low in the
buildup to the June tournament.
The tournament runs from June 7 to 29 and will be co-hosted by
Switzerland and neighboring Austria.

OMAHA, Neb. - The
55-year-old Omaha man who performed a tracheotomy on himself with a
steak knife says he did the same thing to himself two years
ago.
Steve Wilder said last Friday that his throat is shrunken because
of radiation treatments for cancer. Those treatments ended four
years ago, but scar tissue remains. He said seasonal allergies may
have caused his struggle to breathe overnight.
Wilder said he fell asleep watching television in his basement but
awakened when he felt himself suffocating. His wife, Cora, called
an ambulance.
After medics took him to a hospital, he was given antibiotics to
prevent a possible infection. The next day his physician inserted a
tube in his throat.
Wilder, who did not give his occupation, said he's working again
and feeling good.
He said he's had three tracheotomies since 2004. He performed the
first one on himself in 2006 under similar circumstances.
A tracheotomy, a procedure that opens up the windpipe, typically is
done in a surgical setting. Wilder said he isn't ready to perform
tracheotomies on other people.
But his doctor told him that he did a pretty good job on
himself.

LONDON (Reuters) -
England is an irritating and insular country full of overweight,
binge-drinking, reality TV addicts, a new guide warns
tourists.
But in the new Rough Guide to England, the English are also hailed
as a nation of animal-loving, tea-drinking charity donors who love
nothing better than forming an orderly queue.
Gone, it seems, is the image of a genteel country awash with
Englishmen politely tipping their bowler hats, groping through the
London fog and being kinder to pets than kids.
The writers confess to bafflement over the quirky English,
concluding that of the 200 countries the guide reviews there is
none "so fascinating, beautiful and culturally diverse yet as
insular, self-important and irritating as England."
They said the English are proud of their multi-culturalism and are
united by one thing -- their sense of humor.
But there are constant contradictions. In a country priding itself
on patriotism, they have a Scottish Prime Minister, an Italian
football coach and a Greek married to the Queen.
RIO DE JANEIRO
(Reuters) - A Rio de Janeiro tour company could be in trouble for
giving tourists too intimate a view of life in the city's notorious
slums, including photo opportunities with drug gang leaders.
The Brazilian city's tourism chief said on Monday that the company,
Private Tours, could be stripped of its license after a report in a
local newspaper that it had set up meetings between traffickers and
tourists.
The paper sent a reporter disguised as a foreign tourist on the
4-hour, $55 tour of Rocinha, the city's largest slum, that included
visits to the "bocas de fumo" where traffickers sell drugs to Rio
residents.
It said the traffickers told the tourists stories about their time
in prison, described the life of a Rio drug dealer, and would then
pose for pictures with their guns -- as long as their faces were
not photographed.
Rio tourism chief said the firm could lose its license if the story
was accurate.
"It's not necessary to do this kind of tour in Rio; there are a lot
of wonderful attractions," he said.

Up in
arms
At arm's
length
With
open arms
family received me with open arms when I came back from my trip to
California."
比如说,什么是:Up in
arms? Up
in
1: "All us
students are up in arms at the news the school is raising our
tuition ten percent."
2: "No way am I
going to vote for a bill to raise income tax again. The voters back
home are already up in arms about how much the government takes out
of their pay already and I have to run for re-election this
fall."
arm's length。 At arm's
arm's length
3: "I keep
trying to get friendly with that lovely blonde who sits next to me
in biology class. But she keeps me at arm's
length."
在用at arm's
keep someone at arm's length。
4: "Let me warn
you about this Smith fellow. He seems like a nice, friendly guy.
But it's wise to keep him at arm's length. You get too friendly
with him, and the first thing he'll do is ask to borrow money from
you."
第一个是:Up in
To keep someone at arm's
