    (一)创设情境,导入新课[Create plots and scenes to guide the new lesson]

    It is to mainly talk about what things are important for vacations in section B.So the teacher can guide the new lesson by reviewing the content in section A.Get the students to have a free talk about where they would like to go on a vacation and why. Sum up the students’ reasons and write some key words down on the blackboard. Then get the students to think about what things are important for vacations. Then get the students to write down a list of things that are important to them when they go on vacations. The teacher should offer the students some help if necessary when they finish the teaching task of part 1.

    (二)自读感知,整体把握[Pre-read to apperceive and grasp the whole]

    Review and consolidate the usage of “would like to” and“hope to ”, talk about where you would like to go on vacations and what things are important for vacations. These are the main content of section B.So it’s designed by four steps: In part 1, students make a list of things that are important for vacations to them by brainstorming; In 2a-2c, do listening and speaking practice about where and why people would like to go on vacations; In 3a - 3b, reading and writing practice is designed according to the topic and the target language for students to do; In part 4, students make a survey about an ideal place for a school trip.

    (三)合作交流,解读探索[Cooperate and intercourse to unscramble and research]

    The main content in section B is to talk about what kind of things are important to people when they go on vacations. At the same time, make the students know more about different places of interest.

    Step 1活动[Demonstration]

    The teacher communicates with students to review the content in section A.

    Do you like vacations? Yes,...

    Where would you like to got I would like to ...

    Why? Because...

    Then get the students to have a free talk about vacations.

    Step 2应用[Application]

    Get the students to think and talk about things that are important to them when they go on vacation. Then make a list of the things and finish the teaching task of part 1.

    Step 3体验[Experiences]

    1.Play the tape of part 2a,students listen to the conversations and number the pictures, finish the teaching task of part 2a.

    2.Play the tape of part 2a again and ask the students to complete the chart, finish the teaching task of part 2b.

    Step4活动[Activities]

    Get the students to role play Jeff’s conversations using the information from the listening practice, finish the teaching task of part 2c.

    Step 5阅读[Reading]

    Get the students to read the e-mail in part 3a and do “True” “False” or “Don’t know” about the statements. Finish the teaching task of reading in part 3a.

    Step 6应用[Application]

    Get the students to write an e-mail message to S.T.Zhang to tell him where you think he should go on vacations. Finish the teaching task of writing in part 3b.

    Step 7调查[Survey]

    Get the students to think of an ideal place for a school trip and complete the survey using words from the box and then survey three students. Finish the teaching task of part 4.

    要点直击[English notes]

    1.I hope you can provide me with some information about the kinds of vacations that your firm can offer.我希望你能提供给我一些你们公司提供的假期种类的信息。

    【注意】①provide动词,意思为“提供、供给“。provide me with some information提供给我一些信息;provide sb with sth/provide sth for sb意思为“提供某人某物”。

    ②the kinds of vacations假期的种类;that your firm can offer是一定语从句,修饰先行词vacations。

    ③firm名词“公司”的意思。

    ④offer动词,意思为“提供、给予”。

    【点拨】①provide还可以作“准备、筹备”的意思。provide for sb/sth意思为“为……准备,扶养”;provide against sth意思为“防备、预防”。

    ②offer可用作及物动词或不及物动词,offer sb sth= offer sth to sb,意思为“提供某人某物、出价”,offer to do sth提出干某事。

    【应用】“你能提供给我一些吃的东西吗?”有以下几种翻译形式:

   Could you provide me with some food?

   Could you provide some food for me?

    ③Could you offer me some food?

    ④Could you offer some food to me?

    2.We don’t mind how far we have to go.我们不介意我们必须走多远。

    【注意】①mind动词“介意”的意思,后接名词或动词ing形式。

    ②how far we have to go是一宾语从句,作mind的宾语。

    ③how far“多远”的意思,指距离的远近。

    【应用】Would you mind opening the door?你介意开门吗?

   I don’t know how far it is from here.我不知道它离这有多远。

    3.Could you please give me some suggestions for vacation spots ?

    请你给我一些有关度假地点的建议好吗?

    【注意】①could you please+动词原形,“请你……好吗?”

    could you please not+动词原形,“请你不……好吗?”

    ②suggestion名词,“提议、建议”的意思;at the suggestion of sb意思为“由于某人的建议”;on one’s suggestion“照某人的建议”的意思。

    ③spot名词,“地点、场所”的意思。

    【点拨】①in a spot(口语)在困境中,处于困难境遇

    ②on the spot在现场,当场,立即

    ③knock spots off sb轻易超越或胜过某人

    ④put sb on the spot置某人于危境或困境

    【应用】Could you please not close the window ?

    请你不要把窗户关上好吗?

    ②You’ve put me on the spot here.这你可把我难住了。

   We decide to do it on your suggestion.

    我们决定照你的建议做。

    4.Pl ease let us know if it’s best to travel by plane, train or bus.

    请告诉我们是否乘飞机、乘火车或乘公共汽车是最好的。

    【注意】①let sb know告知某人

    ②it’s best to do sth最好干某事

    【应用】Please let me know when he comes.他来的时候,请告之我。

   It’s best to swim in summer.在夏季游泳是最好的。

    5.The Forest of Steles in Xi’an is historic.

    西安的碑林是历史上著名的。

    【注意】①stele名词,“石碑、石柱”的意思,复数steles;也可写作stela,复数为stelas。

    ②forest名词,“森林”的意思。The Forest of Steles碑林。

    【应用】It’s a good idea to visit The Forest of Steles in Xi’an

    去参观西安的碑林是个好主意。

    (四)应用迁移,巩固提高[Application and transfer, consolidation and improvement]

    Make a survey: Students work in groups. First , get them to list a few places of interest they know, then each of them makes a survey in the groups. They can use the following words to express their opinions. Educational, exotic, cold, hot, crowded, expensive, exciting, relaxing, tiring, peaceful, fascinating, interesting, fun, boring, etc. At last, get them to complete the survey table.

    (五)总结反思,拓展延伸[Summarize and ponder, develop and stretch]

    小结Summary]

    The content of this unit is to learn to talk about where you would like to visit and why. So the target language structures are “would like to do” and “hope to do”. The students-can learn a lot about different places and open their eyes by learning this unit.

    讨论交流[Discussion and intercourse]

    Get the students to do a discussion and intercourse activity. The following questions can be discussed: Do you like going on vacations? Where would you like to visit? How do you usually go to visit a place? What things are important to you when you go on vacations? What do you think of your hometown? Is it a good place to take a vacation? etc. The students discuss these questions in groups. The activity can help the students review the content of this until and offer the students a good chance to improve their speaking.

    应用[Application]

    Get the students to collect some pictures of places of great interest, such as, the Great Wall in China, the Opera House in Sydney, the Big Ben in London, and so on. Get the students to write a passage to introduce each of the picture. And then, students do group work to talk about where they would like to go on a vacation and show the reasons. This activity can improve both students’ speaking and writing.

    反思[Pondering]

    In English classes, the teacher should design different class tasks according to the target language in each unit for the students to do pairwork and group work. But some key words should be offered to the students. At the same time, the teacher should get the students to do some brainstorming as well because the activity of brainstorming is not only good for improving students’ convergent thinking, but also good for improving students’ divergent thinking. The teacher shouldn’t neglect this.
