    坐在《大酒店》摄影棚里,和我们面对面的丹尼尔"爱默尔先生自信,睿智而又风趣。十五年前,来自英国的他踏上了美利坚的土地,开始了自己的酒店生涯。而今,如此年轻的爱默尔却已经代表着世界一流酒店集团喜达屋(Starwood)旗下最IN的品牌威斯汀(WESTIN),入驻世界一流城市,成为了即将在六月初开业的金茂北京威斯汀大饭店的总经理。在这个温暖的季节里,《大酒店》在与爱默尔侃侃而谈的同时,也感受到了一线酒店品牌与时尚前沿碰撞出的绚烂火花。

五星级酒店是商旅人士在陌生城市的家。能够在最短的时间内融入这座城市,去体会整座城市的历史与现在,是所有酒店客人所期待的。金茂北京威斯汀大饭店是第二家入驻北京的威斯汀品牌,时至今日酒店在北京的发展已日趋成熟,在这个时候让第二家威斯汀品牌落户北京实乃明智之举。坐落于北京城商务中心地段朝阳区的金茂北京威斯汀大饭店,距离北京首都国际机场仅25分钟车程,15分钟可达主要商场和酒吧,毗邻北京国际外交和商务区域。三十四层的多功能大厦包括高档办公室和大型零售购物广场,金茂北京威斯汀大饭店作为亮马河地区发展近10年来首家新建的五星级国际酒店,拥有非常理想、便利的地理位置,将成为亮马河大型多功能大厦的一部分。

随着举世瞩目的奥运会日益临近,爱默尔先生坦言:“毫无疑问,我们为奥运做好了全面准备!纵观全球,我们可以
发现如今亚洲正进入一个高速发展的时期,而中国在其中占了很大的一块份额。作为中国最重要的城市,北京如今不仅聚集了全中国的目光,更成为了全世界的焦点,在这其中,酒店成为了很重要的一个组成部分。我们为奥运会作了充分的准备,希望可以更好地迎接来自世界各地的运动员,与此同时,酒店的华丽妆容将会很快公之于众。”

爱默尔先生口中的“华丽妆容”被酒店种种创意诠释得淋漓尽致,在保留五星级酒店奢华本质的同时,我们可以感受到思维的火花在这里激发,他们用独特、新鲜的想法彰显了威斯汀无处不在的顶级品质。
 
首先让笔者感到意外的是,在互相交换名片的时候,爱默尔递上了三张名片,他像是看出了笔者的百思不得其解,于是向我们道明了其中的原委。原来,递三张名片已经成为了威斯汀酒店的特色,名片上的内容是一样的,但是背景图案各有千秋,分别是代表年年有余的金鱼,以及洋溢着勃勃生机的帝王花和刺桧等等。对方可以根据自己的喜好来选择或收藏印有自己中意的图案的名片,如此奇思妙想的主意,倒是十分新鲜,却也在无形中成了威斯汀创新的活招牌。不仅如此,这些图案还蕴涵了酒店的服务理念:让客人得到贴心服务并真正体会到“能使我神采飞扬”的地方。运用各种量身打造、令人焕发活力的体验使客人身轻体舒、心旷神怡,致力于给客人留下一段难以忘怀的住宿经历。

更值得一提的是酒店的会议厅和宴会厅,金茂北京威斯汀大饭店作为京城最便捷、明智的会议场所之选,拥有720平方米的金茂大宴会厅,可招待多至600位宾客,并提供全套婚宴服务。专业的会议策划专家会全程协调客人的会议,并解决关于技术、餐饮或服务上的所有问题。超出标准的专业创新的餐饮理念将为客人的活动增色不少,从活力休闲主题茶歇到纯氧呼吸以及巧克力主题茶歇,全面配合会议主题量体打造各种活动项目。

而在大同小异的配套服务中,威斯汀增添了不少全新的概念,比如与以往不同的餐厅,酒店的7个餐厅、酒吧及酒廊分别侧重于不同的风味和设计,带给客人焕彩、健康的生活方式,为来到酒店的客人提供多种美食和休闲的选择。无论是美味的地方食品还是国际早餐、中餐或晚餐,酒店的世界顶级厨师都会将它们一一呈现。让人尤为印象深刻的是一家名为“灵动”(Touch)的酒吧,所有的一切令人耳目一新。而在酒店的顶楼的威斯汀行政俱乐部你可以鸟瞰整座北京城。爱默尔先生说:“我们所倡导的理念是每个人都应该努力工作,但同时更要尽情地享受生活。”

另外,让笔者感到格外心动的是酒店的游泳池,因为在那里,游泳也开始变得创意无限,但由于酒店希望能在开幕的时候给所有人一个惊喜,爱默尔先生说他现在不方便透露太多,而《大酒店》会在今后的日子里,将会向读者详细报道酒店的各种新奇设施,揭开面纱后的“惊艳”。

如今金茂北京威斯汀大饭店正在做开业前的最后的准备工作,一切都在有条不紊地进行之中,对于读者关心的无烟区以及新装修完的酒店所存在的噪音、气味问题,爱默尔先生向我们介绍道:“如今吸烟的人越来越少了,以前的酒店,有70%的吸烟楼层,而今,这个数字骤降到了20%,北京五月份新出台的条例也表示,公共场合,包括酒店的大堂,都应该是无烟区。至于噪音和异味,我们酒店是高层建筑,在噪音方面比度假村那种平房更容易解决问题,在客房中,如果其地毯和墙纸都是新的,那势必会产生一些气味,然而良好的措施是完全可以避免此类问题的发生。为此我们专门做过研究,在装修方面使用了最安全可靠的材料并做了最大程度的去味处理和检测,客人们可以完全放心入住,不会受到任何干扰。”说到这里,他还向我们幽默地介绍了一个家庭装修去除异味的小窍门,
将柚子皮至于室内即可达到效果,简单且有效,而这是他的司机告诉他的,爱默尔的活学活用,让我们忍俊不已。

爱默尔仅仅花了十五年的时间就成为了五星级酒店的总经理,这个速度可以用“惊人”来形容,但却又在情
理之中,因为这与他的才能和努力密不可分。对于自己的工作成绩,他永不满足。“我热爱我的工作,我对它充满了激情。我有一个很好的工作团队,从工作中我们互相帮助,共同取得了不少的成绩,并将不断努力。”从他的言语中,我们可以很深刻的感受到作为顶级品牌酒店总经理的那一份自信与自豪。机会总是眷顾那些时刻准备着的人,因为我们回不到过去。
 
爱默尔先生那种与生俱来的英国人的风趣幽默,使得整个访谈过程中笑声不断,尽管这是他第一次做客《大
酒店》,却已经像我们的老朋友一般亲切。通过《大酒店》,金茂北京威斯汀大饭店向读者们发出诚挚的邀请:“我们已经准备好了,而您准备好了第一次光顾吗?”
 
Seated inside Grand Hotels’ photos tudio, we were face to face with Daniel R. Aylmer, a witty and humorous Briton who traveled across the Atlantic Ocean 15 years ago and landed in the United States to pursue a career in relation to the hospitality trade. Aylmer, who’s still in his prime, came to the metropolitan Beijing as the representative of the prestigious Starwood Hotels & Resorts to operate The Westin Beijing Chaoyang, one of the incarnations of Westin the Inspiring hotel brand scheduled to open in early June. When we finally sat down together with the general manager for a chat, what we could feel was not just the warmth, but the inspirational sparks of the clash between a high-end hotel brand and cutting-edge fashion.

Five-star luxury hotels provide a temporary home to business travelers in a foreign city, enabling them to adapt to the city quickly and explore its past and present. What else do guests expect? The Westin Beijing Chaoyang i s the second Wes t i n property to enter Beijing, a smart move made by Starwood given that the hotel industry in China’s capital city is going towards maturity. Ideally located in the pulsating heart of Beijing’s Central Business District in Chaoyang, The Westin Beijing Chaoyang is 25 minutes from the Beijing International Airport by car, and conveniently within 15-minute walking distance to the major shopping malls and bar district. Adjacent to the international diplomatic and business community
of Beijing, this makes the central presence of The Westin Beijing Chaoyang ideal, appropriate and exciting. Housed in a 34-floor building, the hotel forms part of a large mixed-use complex in Liang Ma He, which comprises office towers and extensive retail

As to the forthcoming Beijing Olympic Games 2008 that is the focus of world attention, Aylmer observed: “We are fully prepared for the international sports event. There is no doubt about it. Generally speaking, Asia is developing at a high speed, and China’s presence is strong. As China’s capital city, Beijing has attracted both nationwide and worldwide attention. Hotels will play an important role during the course of the Olympics. We try to make our preparations as thorough as possible in the hope that we can better service athletes from across the world. By the way, details of the
‘glamorous design’ will be released very soon.”

The so-call “glamorous design”, in Aylmer’s words, sparkles with innovative ideas inspired by the designer’s resolve to do more than just the basic rule of 5-star luxury, and to interpret the Westin heritage using fresh and unique factors. What surprised us in the first place are the three business cards—same content, different designs—Mr. Aylmer presented in exchange for ours. Sensing our bewilderment, he explained that three cards at a time is one of Westin’s characteristics. As the card comes in three designs, that is, with three different icons—goldfish, “May you always get more than you wish for”; flowering King Protea; and locust tree—you can choose to keep the one you like best. The unique card is in itself an advertisement. And it’s more than that. Behind these icons is The Westin concept: a destination where guests are understood and feel that this is a place where "I can be at my best." The hotel’s customized renewal experiences energize patrons’ mind, body and spirit, making their stays especially memorable.

All 550 rooms, available in a variety of sizes, are designed with sensitivity to each person’s unique path to unwind, to ensure that everyone leaves feeling better than they felt upon arrival. A host of specialized rooms—Westin Deluxe Room, Westin Renewal Room, Westin Workout Room and Westin Renewal Suite—offer guest customized ways to relax. All the rooms come with four signature features, Heavenly Bed, rainforest shower, technology support and refreshment center, making guests feel as comfortable and convenient as at home. The electronic devices, including cables and AV dock with which you can connect your personal iPod to the flat screen television and speakers, are in harmony with the stylish décor. Instead of the boring TV programs, you can pass the time with your favorite songs and movies.

Positioned to become Beijing’s No. 1 choice for meetings and events, The Westin Beijing Chaoyang features the magnificent Jinmao Ballroom, 720sqm in size, capable of accommodating up to 600 guests. The Westin Executive Club, comprised of the top four floors of the hotel, offers an unobstructed view of the capital city. “Everybody should work hard, and enjoy life. This is our philosophy,” Aylmer noted.
 
Even a common sport like swimming challenges your imagination, and we find the pools very attractive. However, Aylmer chose not to say too much. He would like to keep the amenities a secret that will delight guests at the hotel’s grand opening. You readers will be updated with reports on the cutting-edge facilities. The Westin Beijing Chaoyang is now at the final stage of its pre-opening preparations which are carried out systematically. In reply to inquiries about no-smoking section, noise, offensive odors of a newly finished hotel and other issues that often concern us, Aylmer said, “Given that the number of smokers drops, we substantially reduce the smoking floors, to only 30. As to the noise and odors, our hotel is inside a tall building which can better protect our guests from noises than a singlefloor resort does. As the brand new carpet and wall paper are sure to give off odors, we did some research looking for solutions that can best solve the problem. For instance, we use construction materials that are deodorized, and proven safe and reliable after testing. You don’t have to worry about being disturbed by noise or offensive smell.” He went on to suggest, in a humorous tone, that we put some pomelo peels in a newly decorated room to absorb the odor, a tip he got from his driver, and that made us burst into laughter.

From a rookie to the head of a five-star luxury hotel takes Aylmer 15 years, a shocking fact that still stands to reason because of his capability and hard work. He is never satisfied with what he has accomplished. “I love my job. It is passion that drives me forward. I have a very good team. We help each other, and work together to make achievements. We’ll never stop working,” Aylmer announced with the evident pride and confidence of the general manager of a top hotel that impresses us enormously. Opportunity favors the prepared minds. Look ahead, but not back.

Daniel's British sense of humor seems to fill the conversation with smiles and hearty laughters. The first-time guest of “Grand Hotels”, who got along with us just like old friends, extends his warmest invitation to the readers, on behalf of The Westin Beijing Chaoyang: “We’re ready.
