entail
 vt.使(事件、行动)成为必需;需要:Writing a history book entails a lot of work. 编写一部历史书需要花很大的工夫。
even as 正当;恰在…的时候:Even as he shouted the warning the car skidded. 就在他高喊注意的时候,汽车滑动了。
even if 即使;纵然:Even if we could afford it, we wouldn’t go abroad for our holidays. 即使我们有能力,我们也不去国外度假。

excursion

exert oneself 努力,尽力:She can run 100 metres in 13 seconds without unduly exerting herself. 她无须过分努力就能在十三秒内跑完一百米。

 vt. 编造,捏造:The reason he gave for his absence was obviously fabricated. 他提出的缺席理由显然是编造的。
face something out: [T] 勇敢地反对(对付):Everyone admired the way she faced out the  opposition in the debate. 人人都钦佩她在辩论中勇敢地对付对手的方法。

 adj. 1、虚弱的,无力的:She answered me with a feeble voice. 她用虚弱的声音回答我。2、(笑话、想法、故事等)没有力量的,愚蠢的;未经周密考虑的:You offered a feeble excuse. 你的借口站不住脚。
feel for somebody: [T] 同情,体谅:I really feel for the parents of that boy who was killed in the crash. 我真同情在车祸中丧生的那个男孩子的双亲。
fill up: [I; T] (使)充满,装满:The room soon filled up with people. 房子很快就挤满了人。
find against somebody: [T] (没有被动态)(律)作出不利于…的判决:The fury found against the plaintiff. 陪审团作出不利于原告的判决。

flock

fluctuate
 vi. 波动,涨落,起伏:The price of vegetables fluctuates according to the weather. 蔬菜的价格依季节而涨落。
forge
 vt. 1、伪造;假冒:She tried to get into the country on a forged passport. 她企图以伪造的护照入境。2、打(铁等);锻造:They are forging the links of a chain. 他们在打造铁链的环。
foster
 vt. 1、(在一定时期内)照管,抚育(别人的孩子),照料:People who cannot have a baby of their own sometimes foster a child. 不能生育的人有时领养别人的孩子。2、(正式)培养,鼓励,助长:We hope these meetings will help foster friendly relations between our two countries. 我们希望这些会议将有助于促进我们两国之间的友好关系。
fringe
 n. [(of)] 边缘;外围:They live on the fringes of society. 他们生活在社会的边缘。
futile
adj. 徒劳的,无益的,无效的:All his attempts to unlock the car were futile, because he was using the wrong key. 他试着打开车门的努力都是徒劳的,因为他用错了钥匙。

grave
adj. 1. 严重的,重大的,沉重的:His face was grave as he talked about the accident. 他谈起这场事故时脸色凝重。2. 严厉的,严肃的:The silk child's condition is grave. 小孩的病情严重。
grind //
vt. (ground, ground, grinding) 1. 把…碾碎,把…磨成粉:grind wheat in a mill 用磨面机磨麦子 grind the faces of the poor 压榨剥削穷人grind down 折磨,压迫:He was ground down by hunger. 他被饥饿所折磨。
n. 枯燥乏味的工作:Do you find doing research a grind? 你觉得做研究是一件苦事吗?
gross //

hazard
使冒危险,冒…的危险:He hazarded all his money to save the business. 他孤注一掷,拿了所有的钱来挽救企业。
hike
n. [C] (乡间的)徒步旅行,远足:go on a hike 作徒步旅行
vi. 1. 作徒步旅行,远足:hike out 露营 2. (非正式)猛然提高,大幅度增加:The ferry hiked the fare to forty cents. 船费涨到40美分。
hinge on/upon 取决于,以…为转移:Everything hinges on what we do next. 一切都要看下一步我们如何做才能决定。

live through 度过,经受住:live through an economic crisis 度过一次经济危机‖Will he live through the night? 这一夜他能挺得过去吗?
live up to 1. 遵守,实践(诺言、原则等):live up to one’s promise 遵守自己的诺言
look in 顺便访问,顺便看望:I’ll look in at the shop on my way home. 回家的路上我要顺便到那家商店看看。‖He looks in on us once in a while. 他偶尔顺便来看看我们。
look into 调查,观察:Let’s look into the matter together. 让我们一块儿调查一下这件事
look through 1.(从头至尾)浏览:They looked through all the cards and found out the data they wanted. 他们翻遍了所有的卡片,找到了他们需要的资料。
look up 1. 好转:The weather is looking up. 天气有所好转。‖Exports are looking up at last. 出口状况终于有所改善。2.(在词典等中)查找:Look the word up in your dictionary. 到词典里查一查这个单词。‖Let me look up his address and telephone number. 我来查一下他的地址和电话号码。3. 看望,拜访:I’ll look you up next time I come. 我下次来的时候会来看你。4. (to) 尊敬:They look up to him as a good example to follow. 他们尊崇他为学习的好榜样。
