                 著名大学校训之英译

当下，越来越多的海外青年欲来中国留学。了解中国大学校训成为他们的当务之急，因为校训就是一所学校的灵魂所在；校训是洞察一所学校侧重培养什么人的窗口；校训能体现一所学校的追求目标。笔者愿将自己近年来收集、整理和翻译的部分中国著名大学校训的英译，分成“以省市区命名的大学”，“以城市命名的大学”，“以行业命名的大学”，“以其它类命名的大学”和“港澳台地区大学”等五个类别进行展示，同时提供这些大学的建校(或起源)时间、特色学科代表和主校区所在城市等信息，以飨广大中外读者。

一. 以省市区命名的大学

1. Guangxi University: Diligence and Honesty, Erudition and Creativity.

广西大学：勤恳朴诚，厚学致新。1928年，土木工程，广西南宁。

2. Guizhou University: Virtue and Kindness,  Erudition and Integrity.

贵州大学：明德至善，博学笃行。1902年，植物保护，贵州贵阳。

3. Hainan University：All rivers run into sea; All avenues lead far away.

海南大学：海纳百川，大道致远。1958年，作物学，海南海口。      

4. Hunan University：Seek truth from facts, Dare to be pioneers.

湖南大学：实事求是，敢为人先。源于976年，化学，湖南长沙。

5. Inner Mongolia University: Realism and Practicality.

内蒙古大学：求真务实。1957年，生物学，内蒙古呼和浩特。

6. Jilin University: Practicality and Creativity, Encouragement and Self-reliance.

吉林大学：求实创新, 励志图强。1946年，考古学，吉林长春。

7. Liaoning University: Pursue virtue and Learn well,  Act Sincerely and Become self-

    reliant.

辽宁大学：明德精学，笃行致强。1948 年，应用经济学，辽宁沈阳。

8. Ningxia University: Virtue, Diligence, Facts, Innovation.

宁夏大学：尚德，勤学，求是，创新。1958年，化学工程与技术，宁夏银川。

8. Qinghai university：Aim is as high as huge mountains; Knowledge is as rich as 

    vast oceans.

青海大学：志比昆仑，学竞江河。1958年，生态学，青海西宁。

10. Shandong University：Noble in Spirit; Boundless in Knowledge.

山东大学：气有浩然，学无止境。1901年，数学，山东济南。

11. Sichuan University：The vast ocean embraces streams to its tide; The willingness

to accept all is pretty virtuous.

四川大学： 海纳百川, 有容乃大。1896年，护理学，四川成都。

12. Xinjiang University：Unity,  Endeavour,  Reality,  Creativity

新疆大学：团结, 奋进, 求实, 创新。1924年，马克思主义理论，新疆乌鲁木齐。

12. Yunnan University：Perfection in Moral Integrity, Excellence in Scholarly Attainments,        and Greatness in Career Pursuits.

云南大学：自尊, 致知, 正义, 力行。1922年，民族学，云南昆明。

14. Zhejiang University：Seek Truth and Be Creative.

浙江大学：求是创新。1897年，农业经济管理，浙江杭州。

二.  以城市命名的大学

1. Beijing University：Patriotism, Advancement, Democracy, Science.

北京大学：爱国, 进步, 民主, 科学。 1898年，地球物理学，北京。

2. Chongqing University: Endurance, Thrifty, Diligence, Patriotism 

重庆大学: 耐劳苦，尚俭朴，勤学业，爱国家。1929年，机械工程，重庆。

3. Lanzhou University：Unremitting self-improvement,  being different.  

兰州大学：自强不息, 独树一帜。1909年，草学，甘肃兰州。

4. Nanchang University: Gain the new knowledge through constantly doing reaches 

and Have good influences on people through one's noble morality

南昌大学：格物致新, 厚德泽人。1921年，材料科学与工程，江西南昌。

5. Nanjing University：Be Honest and Intelligent, Study Hard and Act Sincerely.

南京大学：诚朴雄伟，励学敦行。1902年，天文学，江苏南京。

5. Shanghai University: Purse excellence; Be the first to worry about the troubles

    under the sun, the last to enjoy global happiness.

上海大学: 自强不息；先天下之忧而忧，后天下之乐而乐。1922年,  机械工程, 上海。

7. Soochow University: Unto a full grown man.

苏州大学: 养天地正气，法古今完人。 1900年,  材料科学与工程，江苏苏州。

8. Tianjin University：Seek Truth from Facts

天津大学：实事求是。1895年，管理科学与工程，天津。

9. Wuhan University：Improvement, Stamina, Truth, Innovation.

武汉大学：自强, 弘毅, 求是, 拓新。1893年，图书情报与档案管理，湖北武汉。

10. Xiamen University：Pursuing of Excellence, Strive for Perfection.

厦门大学：自强不息, 止于至善。1921年，海洋科学，福建厦门。

三. 以行业命名的大学

1. Beijing Foreign Studies University：Learn with an Open Mind to Serve a Great Cause.

北京外国语大学：兼容并蓄, 博学笃行。1941年，外国语言文学，北京。

2. Beijing Institute of Technology：Developing virtues for seeking truth,
Pursuing studies for perfecting practice.

北京理工大学：德以明理，学以精工。1940年，材料科学与工程，北京。

3. Beijing Normal University：Learn to Be an Excellent Teacher; Act as an

Exemplary Person.

北京师范大学：学为人师，行为世范。1902年，心理学，北京。

4. Communication University of China: Virtue for Career, Race in Learning.

中国传媒大学: 立德·敬业·博学·竞先。1954年, 新闻传播学, 北京。

5. East China Normal University：Seek truth and be creative，Be a model for others. 

华东师范大学：求实创造，为人师表。1951年，教育学，上海。

6. Harbin Institute of Technology：Strict standard and Sufficient effort.

哈尔滨工业大学：规格严格, 工夫到家。1920年，力学，黑龙江哈尔滨。

7. National University of Defense Technology：Sound in morality and Broad in learning,  

    Flourishing the nation and Strengthening the military.　 

国防科学技术大学：厚德博学，强军兴国。1953年，航空宇航科学与技术，湖南长沙。

8. Shanghai International Studies University：Integrity and Vision, Academic and Excellence.

上海外国语大学: 格高志远, 学贯中外。1949年，外国语言文化，上海。

9. University of Science and Technology of China：Study hard to excel in both integrity 

    and specialty

中国科学技术大学：红专并进 理实交融。1958年，材料科学与工程，安徽合肥。

四. 以其它类命名的大学

1. Fudan University：Rich in Knowledge and Tenacious of Purpose; Inquiring with Earnestness and Reflecting with Self-practice.

复旦大学：博学而笃志, 切问而近思。1905年，哲学，上海。

2. Jinan University：Loyalty, Credibility, Sincerity, and Piety.

暨南大学：忠, 信, 笃, 敬。1906年，药学，广东广州。

3. Nankai University：Dedication to Public Interests, Acquisition of All-round Capability, and Aspiration for Progress with Each Day.

南开大学：允公允能 日新月异。1919年，世界史，天津。

4. Renmin University of China：Seek Truth from Facts.

中国人民大学：实事求是。1937年，哲学，北京。

5. Southeast University：Strive for Perfection.

东南大学：止于至善，1902年。哲学，江苏南京。

6. Sun Yat-sen University：Study Extensively, Enquire Accurately, Reflect Carefully, Discriminate Clearly, Practise Earnestly.

中山大学：博学，审问，慎思，明辨，笃行。1924年, 哲学, 广东广州。

7. Tongji University：Sail in the same boat.

同济大学：同舟共济。1907年，风景园林学，上海。

8. Tsinghua University：Self-discipline and Social Commitment.

清华大学：自强不息，厚德载物。1911年，法学，上海。

五. 港澳台地区大学

1. National Tai Wan University：Cultivate Your Virtue, Advance Your Intellect; Love Your Country and People.

国立台湾大学：敦品，励学，爱国，爱人。1928年，环境与生态，中国台北。

2. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University：To Learn and to Apply for the Benefit of Mankind

香港理工大学：开物成务，励学利民。1937年，电子商务，中国香港。

3. University of Hong Kong：Wisdom and Virtues.

香港大学：明德格物。1911年，牙医，中国香港。

4. University of Macau: Humanity, Righteousness, Propriety, Knowledge, Truth.

澳门大学：仁，义，礼，知，信。1981年，工商企业管理，中国澳门。
