伊莲娜·奥斯特罗姆是诺贝尔经济学奖历史上首次发给女性，罗宾逊夫人曾与之失之交臂。她的获奖的另外一个意义是多了一个诺贝尔奖得主支持神经经济学。

当然伊莲娜关心的主要是神经经济学和认知科学理论在制度分析中的应用。但无疑也是一个强有力的支持。这也是自道格拉斯·诺思，弗农·史密斯以来，第三位对神经经济学有力支持的诺贝尔奖获得者。对于学科发展有好处。
Williamson的奖项极具安慰性质，新制度经济学自科斯以来，也就是他跟哈特两人勤勤恳恳，不是朝交易费用，而是朝合同理论方向进行形式化努力，今天这一努力得到了其应有的回报。
