The waiter brings another dish and places it in front of Bill.

Mei: It’s called drunken chicken. It’s a very special dish.

Mei: Just grab a piece of chicken with your chopsticks and eat it whole. Like this.

Bill: Oh, OK. I’ve never tried this before. Well, here goes nothing!

Mei: You use chopsticks very well. Do you like the chicken?

Notes 注释
1.Propose a toast 提议敬酒
Propose 是动词,表示“提议;建议;提出”;toast 在此是名词,表示“祝酒;干杯;敬酒”;toast 也可以做动词,表示“为......干杯;为......举杯祝酒。
I would like to propose a toast to Mr. Smith.
我提议敬史密斯先生一杯!
2.Toasts 祝酒用语
在聚会或聚会上常会用祝酒词,遇到这时,你可以说:let’s drink a toast to(someone)“让我们为(某人)干杯”;I propose a toast to(someone)“我提议为(某人)干杯”;to(someone)为(某人)干杯”;to good heath/friendship“为健康/友谊干杯”;cheers“干杯”bottems up “干杯”
3.Here goes nothing没什么了不起的
在你做一件从未尝试过的事情之前,你就可以用这句话,来为自己打气,意思是说“管它三七二十一呢,没什么大不了的!”
I’ve never tried liquor before. But today is a special day for me. Well, here goes nothing!
我以前从没有喝过白酒。不过今天对我来说是个特别的日子。好了,不管那么多了!
4.Wash(something)down用......下去;咽下
wash是动词,表示“洗涤;冲出”。Wash(something)down表示“冲洗;吞下;咽下”,在本课中表示用水把食物冲下去或咽下。一般在wash和down之间用指示代词或代词的宾格形式,如本课中所使用的it或him,them等,但如果用名词则通常放在down的后面,用wash down(something)这个形式来表示,如下面这个例句:
Here‘s some water. Use it to wash down that pill.
这儿有水。你用它把那个药咽下去。

1.宴会话题
宴会或聚会是人际交往的重要途径。宴会或聚会上可以谈论一些轻松的话题,如:个人爱好,经历,家庭等。这样可以密切人与人之间的关系,相互产生亲密感。
