美国一天新增新冠病例五万多

The U.S. reported more than 50,600 additional coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the largest single-day increase since the beginning of the outbreak, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Cases were growing by 5% or more, based on the change in average new cases compared with last week, in 40 states across the country, including California, Florida, Louisiana, Texas and Nevada, according to a CNBC analysis of data compiled by Johns Hopkins.

The record-breaking increase in new coronavirus cases continues to push the U.S. farther beyond what some previously thought was its peak earlier this year.

As of Wednesday, the U.S. reported an average of 43,404 new cases, marking a week that the average has exceeded previous highs set in April. CNBC calculates its daily Covid-19 cases using data compiled by Johns Hopkins University based on an average over the previous seven days to eliminate fluctuations in daily reporting.

Arizona reported a record spike in new cases and deaths on Wednesday, recording nearly 4,900 new coronavirus cases and at least 80 new deaths, according to the Hopkins data. Arizona’s intensive care units were at 89% capacity as of Tuesday, according to the state’s health department.

调查显示半数新冠肺炎患者不知道自己是怎么感染的

A new survey from the Centers for Disease Control found that 54% of people who tested positive for Covid-19 couldn’t pinpoint how they contracted the virus. The remaining 46% of respondents could recall having close contact with a person — commonly a family member or coworker — who was also diagnosed with Covid-19.

These findings are “very concerning,” and suggest that people are likely contracting Covid-19 from people in their community who are asymptomatic, Dr. Joshua Barocas, infectious disease physician and assistant professor at Boston University School of Medicine, said in an Infectious Disease Society of America briefing Wednesday.

“We’ve seen that asymptomatic a disease is incredibly common, not just in what we would classify as low-risk populations, but also in high-risk populations,” such as people who live in shared settings or those with underlying health conditions, Barocas said.

And if there is a high level of asymptomatic spread in a community it also makes contact-tracing “incredibly difficult,” Barocas said, which is an important tool in fighting the pandemic.

全球最具价值品牌发布 亚马逊成功卫冕全球最具价值品牌

The world's most valuable brands have seen their total brand value increase by 5.9% despite the economic, social and personal impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, a report released on Tuesday has found.

The total brand value of the top 100 brands has reached $5 trillion, equivalent to the annual GDP of Japan, according to the 2020 BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands report, which was released by global communication services provider WPP and Kantar.

These brands have been more resilient and less volatile during the pandemic than they were in the global economic crisis of 2008-09, adding $277 billion of brand value growth over the past year, the report said.

US brands represented more than half of the top 100, with Amazon maintaining its position as the world's most valuable, followed by fellow technology giants Apple and Microsoft.

Asian brands represented a quarter of the top 100, with 17 from China, including Alibaba and Tencent in the top 10.

中国羽毛球名将林丹挂拍

China's badminton legend Lin Dan announced his retirement on Saturday, ending his two-decade career in the Chinese national badminton team.

The 36-year-old veteran made the retirement announcement through his personal Weibo account, and related topics had been viewed over 50 million times on Weibo within an hour, becoming the top trending sports news.

"From 2000 to 2020, that's an entire 20 years. It's time for me to say goodbye to the Chinese national team. And it's actually so hard for me to make the announcement," the two-time Olympic gold medalist wrote.

"As a veteran of nearly 37 years of age, my physical strength and injuries will not allow me to fight with my teammates anymore. I'm grateful, but I'm reluctant to say goodbye. There are also regrets. In the future, I wish to spend more time with my family and find new 'courts' for other competitions in my life.

"I'm grateful for my country that nurtured me, my coaches who trained me, my family who always stayed with me, my fans who support me and my great opponents on the court who encouraged me to be better. I wish to tell all of you who are chasing dreams to stay hungry. Make your best efforts and go fight for your dreams."

Known as "Super Dan", Lin is considered one of the greatest badminton players in history. His legendary career includes two Olympic gold medals (in 2008 and 2012), five World Championship titles (in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013), five Sudirman Cup golds (in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2015) and six Thomas Cup titles (in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2018), let alone more than a dozen medals in the Asian Games and Asian Championships.

湖北部分地区提高洪水警戒等级

The city of Qianjiang, central China's Hubei Province, on Monday upgraded its emergency response for flood control from Grade III to Grade I, the highest of the four-tier system.

Qianjiang is the first city in Hubei to issue the top-level flooding alert this year, according to the local flood control and drought relief headquarters.

Torrential rain has been pounding the city over the past days, which has led to serious waterlogging and damage to farmlands. Heavy downpours are forecast to persist in the coming days.

Also on Monday, Wuhan, capital of Hubei, upgraded its emergency response for flood control from Grade III to Grade II.
