Thanks, I really don’t know what to say, but thank you. I choke
when I got the book from mSimon Gogo. By reading this, I can feel
that you are supporting me., even though I don’t know your name,
sex or other information. But that’s not important, isn’t it? I
gona be fine, cause when I lose my courage, I know, you, will
always stand in my side. Thank you, especially sina, and新聞晨報，
especially you

I believe that mom is looking at
me in paradise, I’ll be more brave and go straight taking the
dream of mom and my own.

Hey~ wut's up everyone?
after i went to visit mom in the hospital, i went to practice my
singing @ the studio. the song i used to excercise my vocals today
is a song by Faith Hill, There You'll Be. You may
recognize it from the soundtrack of the movie Pearl
Harbour released a few years ago.
Anyway.. this is a recording of what i managed to get done in just
under three hours.

P.S: GuoPengzi’s comic “loving zoo” has been published, it’s
cool and so warm, I like it, hope you will like it. I’m looking
forward to my own comic.

Faith
Hill的There You'll
Be.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! I’ve been having such a great time
these past few days of the New Year! My adventure first started two
days ago when I went shopping with a friend who happens to be a
celebrity stylist! *woohoo* Ricky helped me pick out some outfits
for an interview that I did yesterday as well as the grand opening
of Sau San Tong Healthy Trim Institute’s new flagship store in
Hong Kong.

*woohoo*

I don’t often get the chance to go shopping and Ricky knew all
the right places to go to~ I had fun doing the interview yesterday
and am soooo excited for the grand opening !I can not fall asleep
the night before the opening, I
feel so nervous.

New Year – New Challenges

This past year has gone by SO FAST. It’s felt like I’ve wasted an
entire year of my life doing nothing! Three hundred sixty five days
in a year… so that means I’ve been given at least three hundred
sixty five chances to make a difference. I, of all people, should
realize that life is a very delicate gift and it can very easily be
taken away from you. I’m always a strong believer of making the
best of every single moment… and as much as I preach it, I don’t
do a very good job at applying it. Hmm…

Remember how I said I was going to keep my blogs as real as
possible? Well, here’s a reality not a lot of other people like to
face: even artists have bad days… I’m having a bad day =( I’m
gonna write a poem about my bad day.

A Verse for Bad Days – Joyce Cheng

I feel blue – smelly shoe.

Sunny day but no hoorays.

New Year’s here, but I don’t cheer.

Avoid the crowds, furrow my brow.

Do you know why I have no smile?

Cuz I feel blue – smelly shoe.

Hahaha… ok, I feel better now after writing that ridiculous
poem. Have you ever had one of those days… where nothing’s
ACTUALLY gone wrong, but you just feel glum? like you look at
people, but you don’t really see them? You’re able to have
meaningless, mundane conversations with people, but you’re not
really there? You’ve had a good nights sleep, but your body’s way
tired n u just wanna draw the curtains n go back to bed? Sounds
like I’m having major hormonal mood swings or sumthing~ hahaha…
don’t worry all, I’m not going through menopause yet.

Anyway, I think part of the reason why I’m so “wutever” today
is cuz everyone’s been asking me what I’m gonna be doing for New
Year’s Eve, but besides the obvious (counting down with mother), I
actually have no plans at all. I’m losing my enthusiasm for fun!
I’m turning into an AUNTIE – AND I’M ONLY TWENTY! *ahhh* =P

=P

This Christmas Eve was a very special one…

For starters I made a homemade Artichoke and Spinach dip and
served it warm with organic tortilla chips (so fattening… but if
xmas isn’t the time to indulge, when is? My favourite of the
night). The main course was the most tricky for me because I had
never done it before: I prepared Lemon Rosemary Chicken (slow
roasted to PERFECTION!) with a side of roasted yams and carrots.
The chicken surprisingly more moist than I thought it would be
(organic chickens tend to be tougher, dryer)… the only thing I
would change about it the next time I make this dish again, is I’d
add more salt next time! And finally, I made what Allrecipes.com
calls an “Irish Champ” (this was mom’s favourite). The
Irish Champ was basically traditional mashed potatoes with minced
green onion thrown in. I decided to leave out the dessert part cuz
the dip itself is quite rich. We opened a bottle of organic red
wine (gift from my cousin) and toasted each other to a merry and
healthy Christmas and New Year!

最后，我做了一个在Allrecipes.com上被称做“Irish
“Irish

better in real life *cry*

Okokokokok!!! So I have the most awesome news to share with you
today: I’M GOING TO BE PERFORMING ON THE SAME STAGE AS MY DAD!

I’ve been around for twenty years now… and all this time, I’ve
never, for once collaborated with my father before. This really is
going to be a wonderful experience. We started rehearsing
yesterday… well, more like learning the choreography for the
performance… but it was so cool! I’ve never really seen my dad
“in action” before and I didn’t know that him and I had so many
similarities!

Up until yesterday, I thought I must be the only weirdo in this
world who likes to go over things, again, and again, and again…
the sooner… the better. But I found out I got that trait from my
dad.

Oh, and you know what was really sweet? Before we started to
rehearse, dad actually sat down with me and went over every single
line of the lyrics, explaining to me what everything meant. And
afterwards, he made a dvd of the rehearsal and got his assistant to
run it over to my apartment to aid me with my practice! THOSE ARE
MYYYY HABITS!!! AND I GOT THEM FROM MY DADDY!!! Hahahaha…. I’m
such a loser.

Isn’t it amazing how we never lived under the same roof together,
only got to see each other maybe three, four times a year, yet… I
still have some of his traits? I only hope that I make him as well
as my mom proud when time comes for us to actually perform the
song.

YAY! ADD OIL J CHENG & A CHENG!!! (^^)

Love,

Happy happy happy Joyce!

Hmm... a picture of me looking VERY serious while getting my

This is a behind the scenes photo of me gettin my hurr did (that
means “getting my hair done” in slang) for the shooting of my
music video! I was SOOO nervous cuz this song holds so much meaning
to me. It has such a resemblance to mom and my relationship, I
didn’t want to screw up on the shoot. It was so weird too, cuz I
had to wear headphones and sing into one of the studio
microphones… but of course when I was wearing the headphones, I
couldn’t hear a single word of what everyone was saying, right? So
yeah… I felt silly. But it was still such a cool experience. I’m
just grateful that the entire crew was very patient with me.

Anyhow, the new song is a duet with my 劉老師, called 連心, or as I
like to call it, “Connected Hearts”. I wonder when the editing of
the video will be complete? I’m so excited to see how it’s going
to turn out! Today, I caught myself trying to relive every single
part of the video shoot in my mind. Having the opportunity to work
with such great people, to sing such a powerful song, to be lucky
enough to be given the opportunity to film a music video – these
memories shall be cherished in my heart.

Hearts”.

Oh by the way, don’t worry, by the time we were done filming, I
was back to my silly-billy self!

At the end of the day when we were done shooting… being silly
with my makeup artist … v(^^) *yay*

Accidents happen – deal with it.

Thank you all so much for being so patient with me. I’ve
practically abandoned my blog these past few weeks. My mind’s
kinda been spinning out of control since the accident that happened
to mom two Thursdays ago.

Since then, mom’s been discharged from the hospital and we’ve
been doing very well. We’ve even started going out for dinner
again. A few nights ago, mom and I were dining out with some close
family friends when one of the waiters interrupted to tell us that
another diner wished to pass a handwritten note to mom. I was
immediately tense with anxiety, because we’ve been receiving lots
of weird/slightly offensive letters in the mail this past month,
and I was afraid that the note would say something that would upset
mom. But after mom read the note out loud to us, I was immediately
overcome with relief and appreciation. It turns out that tiny note,
written on the back of a cut up paper placemat, was a note of
encouragement! Written by an adult, signed off with “嘉詠弟弟”,
the love of an entire family was put into this note. I kept this
note… Maybe I was just feeling especially emotional at the time,
but I felt that this note would be one of my most valuable
possessions… so I held on to it.

I never actually got to *meet* this family, so I’m using this blog
as an opportunity to thank them personally. I need this family to
know that such a simple gesture can make such a big impact. Thank
you.

I have been busy and, to be honest, have really not been in the
mood to update this blog for a while now. But this note reminded me
that there are so many of you who genuinely care about my mother! I
don’t owe anybody an explanation for what happened or an update on
mom’s medical condition, because that is her business, I don’t
have the right to do it. But I DO owe each and every single one of
you who keep my mom and I in your prayers this blog entry. This is
the least I can do for you.

Mom and I have made an agreement. I’ve done some more growing up
these past few weeks. Mom was always taking care of me when I was
young, but now that I’ve matured, it’s my turn to take care of
her. I made mom pinky-swear that she won’t ever be naughty again.
This may sound childish to you, laugh all you want, but the
pinky-swear is sacred. Any promise sealed by a pinky-swear shall
NEVER be broken!

The incident that happened is past. All we can do now is to learn
from what happened and be extra careful this time around.

Ps. EXTRA special thanks again to all of you who’ve left words
of encouragement here on my blog. In stressful situations like
this, it takes a lot to keep me sane, your kind and loving words
are one of those things that help me do so (^3^) ~kisskiss

Hey everyone!!! Sorry for the non-update… How’re you doing
lately?

I saw a movie this past weekend, Evan Almighty, starring Steve
Carell, Morgan Freeman. I don’t think the movie made too much at
the box office… but I thought Evan Almighty was HILARIOUS! Steve
Carell, also starring in the hit tv series, the Office (US version)
– one of my favourite tv shows of all time, btw – delivers so
well in this film! Anyway, aside from the lead’s stellar
performance, I was also impressed by the depth of Morgan Freeman’s
lines!

Steve Carell, Morgan
Steve
Morgan
Freeman

In one part of the movie Morgan Freeman, playing the character of
God, says a line that really stuck with me:

Morgan
Freeman

       “Let
me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God
gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be
patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or
does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed
for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm
fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each
other?”

WOW! That’s amazing!!! Even though this movie references the
Bible, the quote above applies to everyone of all religions. So I
ask all of you to please keep this in mind as you gather round the
dinner table with your family members for Mid-Autumn Festival.

Hugs to all,

Joyce =)

Joyce =)

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival – one more thing, go easy on the
mooncake-devouring!

xoxox

hoho

CONCERT!!!

…. Not of my own =P hahaha… but I went to an amazingly AWESOME
concert last Friday night! And OMG IT WAS GREAT!!! It was so
energetic! The singing was INCREDIBLE! The special effects,
fireworks, big screens, costume, dancing, EVERYTHING – was
SPLENDID!

That’s right, I was at the 50th show of the Jacky
Cheung (my 學友哥哥) world tour!!! It was held at the Hong Kong
Coliseum where all Hong Kong singers aspire to have their
It’s not easy to fill that venue, but let me tell you,
there was not one empty seat as my eyes made a once-around before
the lights dimmed to start the show.

I’d been looking forward to the show ever since I knew that I’d
have a chance to see my beloved bro in concert. Of all the times
he’s had concerts in Hong Kong, I’ve never had the chance to
attend cuz I’d normally be in school in Canada. Mom would always
call me after the concerts I’d missed and tell me how wonderful
學友哥哥was on stage. This time, I got to experience the full
thing! I switched into enthusiasm-mode and even donned my “The
Year of Jacky Cheung World Tour 07” hat and t-shirt I received as
gifts from Auntie Flo (學友哥哥’s manager) in preparation for the
show. I google searched the lyrics for my favourite 學友哥哥songs
and practiced before the concert. Hahaha… I wanted to be able to
sing along!

And sing-along I did – I also had sore arms the day afterwards
from waving my glowsticks in the air all night.

After the show was over, I was lucky enough to be
one of the few people invited to the 50th show
after-party (aka dinner for everyone who worked on the show). My
invitation was discreetly slipped into my hand when I arrived @ the
concert. Upon my arrival @ the after-party, I was given a sticker…
perhaps to prove that I was an invitation holder? Hmmm… haha.
Everyone who went to the after-party was also given a special “The
Year of Jacky Cheung World Tour 07” t-shirt which lists the cities
the first fifty shows were held. Hidden amongst these cities are
the capitalized words, “I AM JACKY’S FAN” haha… I thought
that’s cute.

I really didn’t want to bother 學友哥哥at the after-party cuz I
knew he’d be exhausted after such a high energy show, but after he
made his short, but heartwarming speech, he came to our table and
gave us great big hugs! I wish mom was there too, but she had seen
the concert on opening night…

學友哥哥’s ability to convey his love for music,
singing and performing on stage is something I strive to be able to
do – all of us sitting infront of the stage felt his energy
radiate from him to the very back of the venue. His determination,
his dedication, most of all his love for music is what sets
him aside as an icon, a 天王.

The show I went to, the fiftieth show, marked the midpoint of the
Jacky Cheung World Tour. He still has fifty more shows to go! I
wish you the best of luck學友哥哥, even tho I know you won’t need
it – and please take care of your health. Don’t over do it, we
all love you!!! ADD OIL!!!!!!

Ok, so Saturday last week, I made a tiny appearance at an Award
Ceremony hosted by MetroShowbiz(??? Not sure of the English name).
My beloved teacher Uncle Liu was a recipient of an award and I sang
one of his favourites in honor of him.

Now, to be honest with you, since this show was held in Hong Kong,
I was very, very nervous. I was quite sure that the audience would
not respond well to my dropping in to say hi… but I felt it was my
duty, as Uncle Liu’s student to perform this song no matter what.
I was only going to sing half – no, maybe a quarter of the song
neway and I had luxury of singing alongside Uncle Liu’s very first
student, my You Ya jiejie. On top of that, the song I performed
(MeiLan MeiLan Wo Ai Ni) is one of mom’s favourites, so it
wouldn’t be that bad, really… right?

It’s weird. I think that I must be allergic to stage performances,
because almost every time I need to perform, I always get sick a
day or two before the show. Haha.. ok, just kidding, but I was so
nervous that I didn’t sleep well the nights leading to the show
which in turn, helped me develop a very phlegm cough and a very
nasal voice. *sighs while shaking head*

Worrying… butterflies in my tummy… nervous… so

Before my turn to go on stage arrived, my manager said to me
sternly, “Joyce, listen to me, ok? No matter what the audience’s
response is, keep on singing, say thank you, and exit.” I nodded
thinking, “… the show must go on…” while at the same time
praying that I’d have the strength to not cry on stage. I knew
that a large chunk of the audience would be made up of established,
accomplished, respected artists… that added several butterflies to
my stomach too. One of the backstage crew walked pass the tent I
was getting my make up done in. I heard him say, “… the show’s
being broadcast live on cable tv… broadcast live on the radio
too…” Even more butterflies. Actually, throw in a few bees too.
After my last live performance in HK for Bao Liang Ju, the response
wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. I think there were maybe ten
complaints… which is an improvement from the Children’s Song
Award Ceremony and the Disneyland Opening in 2005… haha. “Maybe
this time, there’ll only be five.” I thought.

（suki注：butterflies in the

“Joyce, please standby.” One of the backstage people said. He
handed me the microphone and I stood in the left wing, waiting for
my turn to come. I tried to act nonchalant about everything… but
the technician whom I work with in the recording studio could tell
from my fidgeting and my need to tell jokes that I was extremely
nervous. Dick spends the most time with me cuz whenever I
rehearse/practice my singing, he’s behind the large panel of
buttons in the studio, listening to everything, catching my
mistakes and telling me to start over. He knew how much doing well
matters to me and he also knew how badly everything could go.
“Dick, I’m afraid the audience will boo me. And I’m even more
afraid that I won’t be able to keep my cool and I’ll break down
on stage.” There was a flash of hesitation… cuz we both knew the
reality of the situation, but he said to me, “Don’t worry Joyce.
This is easy-peasy for u! You can do it. Just keep smiling. If
nething happens, Uncle Liu will protect you and YouYa Jiiejie will
be right beside you.”

My turn had come. As S.H.E. were finishing up, I got up onto the
stage and hid behind the left wing, waiting… waiting… dreading…
waiting… butterflies… butterflies… waiting… waiting… “Good
show, Joyce.” William So said to me (he was one of the MC’s that
night). “Thanks, but I’m so nervous.” “Don’t worry, you’ll be
fine.”

YouYa Jiejie sang… I took a deep
breath and took a leap-of-faith onto the stage
…梅蘭梅蘭我愛你… was I hearing wrong? …
CRAP! I sang the wrong words!...
你想梅花年年綠… was that Andy Lau?...
OMG! IT’S ANDY LAU…
cheering?...
be hearing wrong…
least the front row is being nice, clapping to the music…
smiling!

The audience was clapping, shouting, showing their support! YouYa
JieJie introduced me to the audience but I was too shocked to say
anything!!! The entire time, I was freaking out, thinking that I’d
be humiliated on stage, boo-ed till I had to run off the stage and
hide my tears. I was so numb from shock, I couldn’t manage to say
anything but a quick hello and a thank you to the audience before I
bowed and went backstage. “Good job!” William said at once… I
still wasn’t sure if I had heard right, did the audience really
applaud for me? I looked down the stage to see my manager and
Dick’s reactions. They were both smiling from ear to ear! YES! The
audience DID applaud for me!!!!! YES! I was so happy that I wanted
to cry!

On stage with YouYa Jiejie! Keep on

I guess all that worrying I had done before hand, was totally and
completely unnecessary. I can only hope that with each performance
I do in the future, I make improvements both in my performance
skills as well as how the audience reacts to my appearance.

To those of you who were there, the night of the show, thank you
from the bottom of my heart for showing your support. That night I
really felt very 感動. It’s so cliché
of me to say this, but I truly mean it… you guys give me strength!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to my teacher Uncle Liu, for
believing in me and for giving me the chance to perform on
Saturday.

Thank you .

All smiles at home, after the show!

I read a few articles in the papers today claiming that the source
of mom’s illness is me – that’s a severely harsh thing to say.
Don’t you feel that it’s already emotionally stressful enough for
me to deal with my mom’s illness? The media completely
misinterpreted what Auntie Tina said. Overly exaggerated and
mistaken. I was always hesitant to bring up bad incidents in the
past, but this has been bothering me for two years now. It’s time
to say something.

Two years ago, in Hong Kong’s Children Song Awards Ceremony, there
was a little musical number where I was required to kiss the
leading male actor on the cheek. This part was always part of the
script and I even followed the script and gave the actor a kiss on
the cheek during rehearsals. I was acting as a performer, giving
what the director wanted and following the script written. After
the live show, there were reports saying I was acting on impulse,
kissing Ron on the cheek because I was ”發花癡”.

This happened two years ago. I was eighteen years old and to be
honest with you, when I first started to rehearse for the show, I
was embarrassed to kiss Ron on the cheek too. Sure I’ve seen Ron
on television before, but we had never met before the show. Even
tho I’m just a new comer to this business, there’s one thing
I’ve learnt from my parents to respect the business: be as
professional as can be, do the best to do what an actor is required
to do so long as it doesn’t put any person in danger.

The response to the show was cruel – saying how my “kiss of
death” was not suitable for children to view and how it made
people feel “噁心”. I never complained or even stressed over the
matter partly because directly after the show, I had flown to
Canada to move into my university residence where I’d be cut off
from the Chinese entertainment news, and partly because after
evaluating my performance, felt like I acted as any other
professional actor would have done. Being large is not a crime.t’s
true that I still have quite a few pounds left to lose, but does
that mean that I’m not allowed to befriend members of the opposite
sex? Does it mean that when I speak to any male, I’m flirting?
Just because I’m dieting doesn’t mean that I’m doing it so I can
get more guys, haven’t these people ever thought that I might want
to be a HEALTHY person?Fellow big girls and big boys, it’s NOT a
crime to be big. We CAN have love and romance in our lives. We ARE
NOT predestined to failure. We DO still have futures. We SHOULD NOT
allow this cruelty against us. These less people
are RUTHLESS.

Mom’s always taught me that beauty is not based on what’s on the
surface, whether I’m large or small… “Beauty is only skin
deep.” Real beauty is based on a healthy heart: Having a
healthy heart and having a healthy outlook on life. Mom’s wisdom
and love is equal to that of a mother and a father.

Thanx mommy! Love u love u!

If the above seems fragmented, doesn’t make sense, my apologies.
Just wanted to get my most real and raw thoughts out there. Thank
you!
